    I've gone through 2 Engines in my 96 spx, I've tore them down well and they run well when everything is put together properly and is well lubricated lol. These are solid engines, they produce alot of good low-end torque, and without rave valves or counterbalance shafts they are really simple to rebuild.

      @SeadooRefurb  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree. If I had started with a 951 I doubt I would have attempted to build another engine.

      @@SeadooRefurb Yeah, I kept having rotten luck with my ski I got from my uncle who passed away last year, got it from him in 2016, needed everything. All of the electronics were fried, engine was toast, pump needed rebuilt, etc. rebuilt everything but learned the hard way that aftermarket replacement parts are a waste of money as they don't last, stuff breaks, and then your stuck up on the river and broke in more ways than one. Once I kept looking through the shop manual countless times, I learned more and more each time I looked through it about my ski. I've also learned with engines and anything on these old skis that you need to do the job 100% and buy all new fasteners. I've wasted alot of money on things that were completely preventable but were a good learning experience for me.

    Great video, it's really going to help as I put my engine back together. In the 45th minute when you put the small o-rings for the spark plug areas, I noticed that you didn't install the o-ring (manufacturer P/N 420831550) that goes around the perimeter of the head as is shown in the shop manual between the head and the head cover. I ask because my didn't have one when I pulled it apart. Should it be installed? I noticed on one of the parts site that it says that it's been discontinued by the manufacturer.

    • @SeadooRefurb

      I did install that o-ring. I am not sure why I did not film that. I would be surprised if it worked without one.

    Awesome video!!! I just got a 97 GTI that has been setting for 15 years. Any advice for me! I sent the computer to get a couple keys. Ran a bore scope in the cylinders. Had some very light surface rust by the intake port, but it looks good and I can still see the cross hatch in most of it. Drained the fuel and oil replaced the plugs and going to replace the fuel lines. Anything on top of that you would recommend?

    Thank you for this video. It will greatly help out just incase something ever happened to mines. Im pretty sure its the same motor i got in my 1997 seadoo bombardier gts i recently gifted. What oil do you recommend to mix with gas for this motor? I was recomeded the amsoil interceptor, xps2, and lucas oil semi synthetic 2cycl oil? Also i read to use race gas with no ethonal in it. Where can i find that? All gas station have ethanol in it fon they?

    • @SeadooRefurb
      @SeadooRefurb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any TCW3 2stroke oil will work just fine. Premium fuel that has 91 + octane does not have ethanol here . The ethanol is what messes up the fuel system.

      @@SeadooRefurb thank you. I know really little about watercraft stuff. I have been doing alot of googling and youtube video searches to get some info on this jetski but doesn't seem to find out alot about them. I even downloaded the operators guide but still not alot of info on what to use. If this was your only jetski and you plan on keeping it for its whole life and spending on the best stuff for it, What brand and model oil would you get? Oh and will chevron 91 octane with techtron be the best gas for it? What would you feed her for the best health possible. Matt - your video gave me the confidence to rebuild my 2001 GTI 717 engine b/c one of the rods was busted. Had your video playing as I did each step. I got it all back together and it fires up and runs but I have 2 small issues. A - from cold I can only get it to initially fire up with a squirt of gas in the carbs. After its fine and restarts fine. B - a compression test only shows about 90 psi in each cylinder. New pistons new rings all new gaskets etc. Any thoughts on these? Appreciate you time!

    • @SeadooRefurb
      @SeadooRefurb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update- saw a video that said not to use the harbor freight compression tester bc the valve is at the gauge not down on the end of the hose. Borrowed one from auto parts shop and I get 125psi in both cylinders cold. I’ve read that you want 150. Is 125 ok? Can’t believe the gauge made a 30+ point difference.
