If Joan was disappointed by the behavior of Hollywood stars and society back then in 1973, she would be sick to her stomach if she saw how it is nowadays.

Joan Crawford said that it wasn't the studio that made her a star but the thousands of fans who loved and adored her. She never forgot her fans and their loyalty to her, even when her career was faltering. Joan was the greatest star of her era and she is still loved today.

No-one has reached "the same peak" as Joan. She is the longest-lasting star. When I was a boy, I sent her a X-mas card. My grandmother, Betty Batista, knew her dating from the time when she inaugurated a Pepsi bottling plant in Havana. They met at the Presidential Palace. I have a thank you note from Joan that I treasure.

Back in 1973 I was 15 and in High School but I had to see these Legends of the Silver Screen. I got to see Bette Davis, Myrna Loy, Rosalind Russell, Joan Crawford and the last was Lana Turner. I remember seeing these living legends like it was yesterday. I still have the programs from each night. I knew that this might be the first and only time that I would get to see my favorite actresses in person. For someone who was 15 I was mature for my age but my Aunt went with me still she too was starstruck. All the ladies were gracious and funny. I’ll never forget Joan Crawford looked so beautiful it was a magic night for her and for her audience. Another highlight was at the end of Lana Turner’s program she came over and reached down and started shaking the audience’s hands and I could not believe she shook my hand. Her was the softest hand that I have ever shook. I know that I did not wash it for a week afterwards. Thank you for posting this it brought memories bittersweet.

She came a long way from dire poverty. THE ultimate movie star; she had a tremendous learning ability and the ambition of an army. And her speaking voice was eloquent considering she (claimed) never took voice lessons.

Absolutely Ben. She was also very classy and dignified off screen. She would be beyond horrified at how the Academy Awards have degenerated into one of the most disgusting shows ever on the air. 2022 was a new low, and they're on the way out (gone) like all the rest of the awards shows, and the movie theaters themselves otherwise. The movies have been reduced to comic book fare and brain dead Michael Bay crap. Even the color now is this weird blue I don't know what.

I was born in Long Island in 1956. When I'll as a child, lying at home on the living room couch, I got to see many old movies on shows like Million Dollar Movies which would air all the old classics. As such, J Crawford was one of my primary greats. When 11 yrs old, I d spent the summer in WAS, NC. Returning to NYC on my first airplane ride, I sat cheek by jowl with JC. This is a memory I cherish.

What a classy and humble lady Miss Crawford was. She was such a professional and a classy act.
Joan came from nothing and worked hard to become the huge star she was yet she remained humble, compassionate and dignified. Miss Crawford was so loyal to her fans, personally replying to fan letters until the end of her life. She never forgot that it was the fans that brought the tickets to watch her movies or read the magazines about her.
Thanks so much for downloading this wonderful interview. Joan was so honest and open in her answers. If only it had been filmed...

The first time I saw a Joan Crawford film I was 10years old . The film was “Beserk” followed by “Trog” a couple of years later. I knew nothing of her earlier films. My impression of her in these films at the time was awe . She had a very powerful presence on screen that got this young boys attention. A decade later I remember hearing of her passing away. However, I have to thank Robert Osborne of TCM who introduced me to her earlier astonishing work.

-I never knew there was so much love (crying of emotion and had not yet begun the interview, that was his reaction of surprise to see how many people loved her) I always thought that Joan was so upset, apart from the horrific childhood and adolescence she had, I think she never knew what it was to be loved. You only have to see her interviews, when the audience applauds her or shout at her that they love her reaction is a surprise. Sadly she herself loved very little. Eternal QUEEN OF THE CINEMA / HOLLYWOOD.

For as much war that was believed to have been waged (by the public) between Joan and Bette Davis, they did have moments throughout the years, on several interviews where they each described each other in glowing terms. The first time I heard Bette talk in such a kind way about Joan I nearly fell out of my seat.

Wow! I never knew this interview existed. It was great and fascinating to hear her side of the story when it came to Bette Davis, Robert Aldrich, Leading men, Politics at the Academy Awards, etc. It's an interesting thing that several of the most notorious incidents recounted by Christina Crawford in both the book and film of "Mommie Dearest" have turned out to be either exaggerated or completely false... by Christina's own admission...not to mention disputed by her other children....there were NO wire coat hangers. The exact truth can only truly be known by those who were there.Having read comments by others who were there, it seems that there were issues on both sides of that relationship. She was human.....she was also a great actress and star who thrilled millions......God bless her.

      Jane Eyre
Actresses at that time overwhelmingly lost their careers after the age of 50- if they came so far.
They got kicked out mercilessly like Crawford from MGM.
And they were paid much less than male actors.
Also you clearly didn’t listen to Crawford saying here that male actors resented female directors.
Feminism is the reason we all have so much better opportunities, more choices, more freedom and more equality today.
