I will teach you 2-digit multiplication with 1-digit multiplication in this video.
    Take this problem 24 X 7
Multiplication using Abacus is easy. There are two rules that have to be followed while multiplying
STEP 1: A 2-digit number when multiplied with a single-digit number, the answer is a 3 digit number. This is our basic rule
    STEP 2 : 24 X 7
    Multiply 2 and 7 that is 14
Right, as the result should be a 3- digit number here, place 14 from the hundreds rod.
Now 7 X 4 =28 , place 28 from tens rod.Now we have 140 on the abacus we have to add 28. The answer is 140+28=168.
Well if you are wondering how the addition was done please watch
my video tutorial on abacus addition concepts by clicking here
    • How to add on Abacus |...
    • Addition and subtracti...
    Another example is a different concept 38 X 2
Basic rule: 2 digit number, when multiplied by a single-digit number, gives 3 digit answer
Now multiply 3X2 that is 6
Because we got a single digit here, we apply ZERO RULE that is 6 is read as 06.Place 06 from hundreds rod.
    Now 8 X 2 =16 . Add 16 from tens rod.The answer is 76.

Hello, first I want to congratulate for the excellent videos. My daughter and I are learning to do abacus with you. The video before this was about addition with big friends. Now we are into 2 digit multiplication. I wander if there is a missing step in between. How to multiply two single digits numbers in abacus? Thank you and keep up the great work!

davide dondoli Sadly it seems that there is no way of doing so with single digit numbers. It seems that one must still memorize their times tables... If you find a way to do multiplication with single digits on the abacus, please let me know!

You said that if we are taking 2 digit number as question, we get the answer in 3 digit number, but in the second one ,you got 2 digit number as answer

    • @pranaii1729
      @pranaii1729  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Yes when a 3 Digit number is multiplied with a 2 Digit number we'll definitely get a 3 Digit answer.
But in the second example ( 38 * 2 ) we'll have to apply zero rule because of which the answer is 2 digit. However the answer is read as 076 which is 3 digited.

You talked about a significant number. How do we know what a significant number is when we get to it? I was taught with an old abacus many moons ago. It had 5 earth beads and 2 sky beads. later I went to a modern abacus with 4 and 2. I then moved to the UK at 9 and was told I was 'too old to play with toys' and it was taken away from me. I failed at maths after that. It didn't make sense. I've found the soroban and have been through adding and subtraction but now want to go on to multiplication and division and beyond........

      Hi,
Yes not all 2 digit * 1 digit multiplication yield 3 digit answer. As I've explained in the video ( second example : 38*2 ) we could get an 2 digit answer. But here we'll have to apply zero rule. The answer is read as "076" and not simply "76" ( for 38*2 ).
So yes we'll have to apply zero rule whenever required. And there is every possibility that the answer could well be a 2 digit number

Using addition formula...like there are rules... here, for adding 2 to 4 in abacus we have to substraxt 3 and add 5..
