My mothers side is from Roseto Abruzzi and my fathers side is Napoli. I grew up in an all Italian neighborhood in Philadelphia. My parish St Donato or in Italian San Donato was founded by St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in 1913 for our school, the Church 1910. To attend San Donato School you had to be Italian. The reason was in the old days when Italians came to America they were discriminated against, so we had to build our own church and school. Nobody can build better than Italians, it was a beautiful thing.
@@foofghtr well basically we built America so... 😎 btw nowadays Italians are involved into megastructures construction all over the world. As you said, Italians know how to build things 👍
Every village, especially in southern Italy, is lovely, precisely because of the people who live there. For their welcome, for their human warmth, for their attitude to help someone.
I became very emotional watching this video. The genuine love and generous spirit of these wonderful people are incredible. It's like everyone is treated like family there. Caterina is a hoot. More like 10 going on 30 lol. Absolutely loved her. I have no idea how you and Eva are going to tear yourselves away from there because I'd never want to leave.
You and me both. I've grown up with mostly Italian friends all my life. The other times I have had Mexican friends. It seems my parents had the same values as both of these cultures. I want to retire in either Italy or Mexico. I need good people around me. Enjoying life together.
Yes, I encourage everyone who watches this longingly to consider not only "I wish I could visit there" but much more importantly, "How can I make my own home and hometown more like this?"
The little girl, Caterina, said some very important things about the small village of Dasà, like a little bit of all small villages in southern Italy, where the people are all united. They help each other. In case of need there is always someone ready to help you. Unlike a big city where even the neighbor is a “big stranger” (sometimes he doesn't even say good morning to you), everyone on their own way.
@@baurochs2283. In fact, looking at her, she doesn't look like a 10-year-old girl. And also how she described the village of Dasà and all those wonderful people, better than an adult person. Being Italian as well, obviously I understood very well everything she was saying. Unbelievable !
It makes me so proud as a man born in Napoli how the south of Italy has this magic atmosphere where people feels home very quickly . Harper with your sensibility you are showing this with such grace. It is beautiful watching your videos . Wish I will be able to shake your hand one day. All the best
So many of the regions of Italy are beautiful. My cousin's dad was from Trento (we're from Ireland) and her family go over there every year, sometimes more than once. I'm always so jealous that I have no family to visit over there.
What a beautiful video!! Beyond the amazing food, breathtaking sights and a unified family gathering what truly stood out was Catherina (10 years old) detailing with such eloquence the cultural beauty of a small town! Wow, that was impressive!! Listening to a young lady have love and appreciation for where she lives was refreshing. At such a young age she knows that her culture defines her and embraces it. Thank you Harper!
So many emotions as I, too came from a similar village in Calabria and immigrated to USA with my parents 57 years ago. But the tears started flowing when Gianni spoke my beloved Calabrese dialect, referring to the freshly picked figs “mo i pighiamma.” I had the same emotional reaction when you and Eva called Mama Rosa to ask how she makes certain dishes and she and Papa Turi gave their instructions “in dialetto.” 😭 Thank you, Harper and Eva for capturing and sharing all these beautiful moments and traditional recipes that stir up so many personal memories for me. 💚🤍❤

Having just been privileged to spend a day in Dasa as part of the Autumn 2023 Pasta Grammar Tour, I can honestly say, this lovely episode just gives you a taste of how wondeful a village it is. If you've been wavering about whether to go or not, GO! You won't be disappointed! We all left smiling, laughing and in some way a bit wistful that we couldn't spend more time there.
This, in my opinion, was probably one of your best videos, there should be more like this as in showing us how to thrive in traditions and in nature. Hands down to you all in Sasà.

I just went from Italy to Paris and there is no comparison for me, Italy (where my family is from) is much friendlier and just as beautiful. I'm an Italian chef and learned to make pasta this way from my grandmother (from Modena) and later went to a culinary school and lived in Italy in the 60"s. I missed Italy and always told my wife stories about my time living with family there that I finally got to take her there . I lived for a time with my cousin Silvio Berlusconi and his family in the early 60's way before his becoming the Premier. I was planning to visit him but he passed just before we got to Italy. I love Italy and really enjoyed this video, makes me want to go back again!
I always wanted to go to Italy with my Italian husband. Unfortunately we never got to go. I want to travel to Italy for both of us since he has moved to heaven. I only wish I could be part of such a wonderful group of loving people like the ones in this video. Someday I will get to Italy 🇮🇹 Thank you for the look into your beautiful village
No one will see the, because my comments seem to be ghosted here. You made me cry with nostalgia. My family used to have huge reunions with pot luck dinner and it was always the best time. Everyone had a signature dish that ONLY they would make. We would also sing and celebrate. What you have done with the Locanda is simply phenomenal. Giving the residents a place where they all can come togther under one roof. What an amazing place.

Watching this video was so important to me as my grandfather was born in the next village over. I now have an idea of what the countryside looks like. Hopefully we will get there in 2025. Blessings to you all.
Caterina was adorable! She was at no loss for words when describing Dasa. Harper your looking so Italian now! Eva is so gracious and beautiful! I love you two together, what a wonderful team you make. Much luck to you both!

Omg...I love love love Caterina! What a wonderful girl! She seems so well adjusted, confident and so secure! You don't see too many young people like that here in America, I hate to say.
She is only 10 years old, but she has a manner, the way she acts, that almost looks like a grown woman. And I must say that you see several young girls like that, particularly here in southern Italy, and especially in the small villages.
This video made me miss my Sicilian grandma so very much. She lived with us when I was a kid and this brings back such fond memories for me. Tanti grazie!!!
Except from big cities.. Most Italian towns have little traffic.. And where I live, North near an American airforce base, most car incidents are caused by Americans who can't drive and don't respect speed limits.. Unbelievable but true!
I am literally drooling at that fig. My Oratinese grandmother, like many Italians in the early 20th Century, immigrated to New York, but when she went to live in Northern California with my aunt and uncle, she was so very happy. She could lovingly grow everything she wanted and one of the best things about visiting was having those figs. She made an amazing jam out of them as well. EDIT: They better be restoring that castle and not tearing it down.
No, they're not going to tear down a historic site. They have strict laws about historic buildings. If you're refurbishing a home in a town's historic center, you often can't change the size of the windows - or paint the house a color that's not acceptable to the commune - because they want to preserve the historic architecture and look. And that's for homes that "only" go back a few hundred years, so I can't imagine them destroying an ancient castle.
My great-grandparents came from Northern Italy to New York and immigrated to Northern CA too. I heard stories of my great-grandmothers Italian cooking from scratch.
Harper and Eva, this was an excellent glimpse into the amazing everyday lifestyle in Italy's countless villages. There are very few of the stresses of average American lifestyle. Although they don't have all the consumer trappings like 5 TVs or 3 cars, they have what we don't...contentment!
I can't even express how much this video made me want to visit! I feel this shows how small places can truly be so much better than the big cities everyone wants to visit. How a place and the people there can feel like home when you're thousands of miles away. Dasa is such a wonderful gem as are all the people in it!
FABULOUS!!! -- Eva is a very smart woman. She's using baby steps to get you use to living "full time" in Italy. Lolol. Thank you for sharing. Luv all of you! btw: You're Mom is very beautiful. Now we know where you got you good looks from Harper. :) Eva, you are an exceptionally talented and inspirational lady. You make everything look so easy. Thank you for you being YOU! Safe journey back to the USA!
That Caterina is a special young lady! I wish more people especially in the U.S. had this sort of spirit and comradery as Dasà, Calabria has.. the world would be a lot better place.
Dasà is a quaint place made exceptional by its community. Staying there and getting to experience it was definitely a treat, and I think it's great that this channel is giving a window into all of that.
I follow you guys for years and your videos always get a smile out of me even in bad days... But this video has strung a nerve somehow and made me feel really emotional. I don't know if it was watching everybody come together and enjoying each other company, the hospitality, the warm greetings, that wonderful kid with the maturity of a 30 years old... Even watching from home I somehow felt like you all were my family for a while. I really love the work you do, you guys really lightened up my day. Hope I can visit in the future for a tour!
Such a beautiful portrait of this magnificent town and the equally magnificent people in it. Thanks for sharing with us! I think we are all need a Dasà in our lives. ❤
I am Italian/America brought up as Italian in America within a Italian family that never spoke Italian, crazy right. Being a Italian is in my heart. I had left America at 18 years old into the Air Force. I spent most of my life in Asia hence not speaking Italian as I should. I made many trips to Italy and after seeing this video it made me emotional to know what I am missing. You have done the most remarkable job with this video Harper thank you very much. I hope to return to Italy as soon as I can. God Bless both you and Eva and all family and friends Antonio
Among the 3 best videos on the channel, more videos like this, please and what a nice and "authoritarian boss" Caterina. How to capture the true essence of southern Italy in just 23 minutes, well done guys.
This was a beautiful video Harper. It brought tears to my eyes. The authenticity of the people of Dasa is so beautiful. The feeling of closeness comes through in your video. It was lovely to see your mom and her friend enjoying themselves. I can totally understand why you would not want to leave. I’m sure one day down the road you will end up there permanently. Thank you for sharing a part of it with all of us who enjoy your videos. I wish I could visit there someday. ❤❤❤
Amazing video guys!! It brings so many memories about all the time I've had the pleasure to share with you and all the people from Dasà. I'll be for sure coming back there. Bravo per tutti i dasaesi!!
My dad’s parents were from Piacenza , but he grew up in the states in an Italian restaurant cooking southern Italian food. I’d risk health issues to eat everything you served at lunch. Now I have to go cook! It happens every time I watch your videos 🍝
Being an Australian child from a Spanish migrant family it’s nice to see another wog (Australian of Mediterranean decent) staying in touch with their roots.
What I always find funny about Italians is that you can ask them something very basic like "can you tell me what time the bus to... Is" and you'll get the full history of the bus, how the bus times came to be, the life story of the bus driver and each individual in their family 😂
Harper ..Eva....you have been outstanding in showing us the beauty culture of Dasa! This vlog especially that young lady wow she's so mature OUTSTANDING!! this vlog made my heart full of love for what you do! Plus your mom is the cutest lady! ❤❤❤❤🎉🇨🇦❤🇨🇦❤🇨🇦...I Forgot to mention the addition of the Calabrese folk music is pure genius!! That music is gorgeous ❤❤❤🤸♀️🤸♂️🎉🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶 Oh no ! If you have a chance to join them in one of their Pasta Grammar tours...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! I went on the 'A Week with Pasta Grammar in Dasa' in Sept 2023 and anyone who's been there will tell you that you should go!
I love this vlog Harper and Eva. It makes me nostalgic for my Sicilian family's Sundays at my bisononna's casa. Play bocce, drinking the strongest "Dago "red wine ever made, and eating my Zias', nonna's, and mom's food all day. We sang, played cards (canasta), ate, napped, played, ate some more. Perfect days. Thank you.
Wonderful!!! Beautiful!!! Besides the Beauty of Dasa I think the True Beauty is Heart is the people!!! My goodness the was a Fantastic feast as well!!!🥰
Dasa reminds me of the Pueblos Magicos (Magic Towns) we have in Mexico, rustic and full of traditions and culture. And y’all have cactus 🌵 plants too! Your mama is beautiful!
Thank you Harper and Eva for bringing us along, I felt warmly welcomed by everyone in this charming place, and it was sad to leave. Can't wait for another experience in Dasa when you return. It's a well-put-together video, done so naturally. Love it.
Sitting here going crazy with each new food being shown and getting teary-eyed seeing how wonderful the people are together, I am so JEALOUS!!! My Sicilian family would get together and we would eat some wonderful food but usually it would go from everyone talking and laughing to a loud BANG! and they would be yelling and swearing at each other. I cannot seem to see what is shown at 16:06. Meat of some kind? With rosemary? I don't understand how or why you would want to return to America. Love hearing them talk, there was an article somewhere talking about the world's most beautiful language, to me it is definitely Italian of any dialect. When Caterina said "Ah, Paradiso!" and that view of the town on the mountain and the valley....She seems like such a sweet girl, an angel. Does she know how many people here adore her?
If you've ever been on the historic Old Columbia River Highway in Oregon you can see a lot of stone work that resembles what Harper filmed in and around Dasà, especially the opening shots. That's because when they planned and built the highway starting in 1913 they brought in Italian masons to do the stonework. That style of stonework remained common in public works projects in Oregon clear through the depression.
You have touched my heart with this video. Left that part of the world a long time ago. But I left a piece of my heart there. I speak the same dialect and make the same food as you do. Thank you for the beautiful memories that you keep bringing to me. An Italian Canadian.
Omg i can smell the wonderful odors of the food even over the phone and being with the companionship of the people. It's been a very long time since we've all been together and sad because they've all passed away. Harper your mother is a very beautiful woman along with her friend Kristen enjoy the week with them. Hi to Eva Blessings to all.😊🇺🇲
Oh my goodness. I love all of your videos but this one…….it was fantastic. I love everything to do with family, cooking, etc. I sure hope one day to visit Italy and experience everything possible. Thanks ever so much for sharing all of this. The people in Dasà are amazing and loved your mother and her friend. Incredible and moving video. It touched my heart deeply.
Bravo bravo belicimo, l have really enjoyed the video beautiful people nice food and family together.👏Ciao Harper and Eva please more videos more often love to see from so far away Sydney Australia 😊
Believe it or not this reminds me of days gone by in Brooklyn at some of the family gatherings. Days with sheets on the dining room table spread with dough and hand made pasta specialties being prepared and the men getting the coals just right for the sausage, lamb and peppers. Lots of home made wine to go around and long nights of laughter and singing. Summer nights in Brooklyn.
Just beautiful! Would love to join that table and sing Italian songs with Gianni et al! The community that Caterina described so eloquently shines through very clearly. Such lovely and gracious people!! Thank you for reminding me of some long ago trips to Italy to meet family. It wasn't in Desa, but that Italian village warmth and helpfulness was exactly the same...
Not that I don't love every episode, but I LOVED this one! Getting to meet the family and friends and see some of the town and area around it was so special! Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤🇮🇹
At around 15:30 there is a song sung at dinner that is very similar to one that my Mom taught us (her side of the family was Sicilian). It made me so happy to hear it again! A la familia!
Your mom is absolutely beautiful! Really enjoyed this episode! OMG about Cannoli! ! Piana degli Albanesi and the city of of Enna for sure have some of the best and also Trecastagni on Etna! What an amazing treasure Catarina!!!! I knew from the first 3 minutes that this was going to blow Paris away!

The young lady's enthusiasm and energy is truly contagious.
FABULOUS!!! -- Eva is a very smart woman. She's using baby steps to get you use
to living "full time" in Italy. Lolol. Thank you for sharing. Luv all of you! btw: You're
Mom is very beautiful. Now we know where you got you good looks from Harper. :)
Eva, you are an exceptionally talented and inspirational lady. You make everything
look so easy. Thank you for you being YOU! Safe journey back to the USA!
That Caterina is a special young lady! I wish more people especially in the U.S. had this sort of spirit and comradery as Dasà, Calabria has.. the world would be a lot better place.
Such a beautiful place in paradise, not only the countryside, but, the friendly inviting people! Thank you for sharing .
Man I seriously love Italians. I hope to visit Italy one day.
Humanity at its finest. ❤
Such a beautiful portrait of this magnificent town and the equally magnificent people in it. Thanks for sharing with us! I think we are all need a Dasà in our lives. ❤
What a beautiful life with full heart and stomach. I'm moved by the authentic displays of affection and hope everyone has a chance to feel like this.
This was a different video, but it was definitely by far one of the most interesting ones! It was absolutely great!
Harper's mother is so beautiful! What a gorgeous, heart warming video!! Loved it!!
God Bless both you and Eva and all family and friends
Antonio
Among the 3 best videos on the channel, more videos like this, please and what a nice and "authoritarian boss" Caterina. How to capture the true essence of southern Italy in just 23 minutes, well done guys.
THANKS reminds me of my FAMILY when i was younger.
What beautiful people and fantastic family experience, best wishes to you all. from Usa. 😃
Your mum and Kristen are the cutest! Love mum picked up the hand gesture of food approval too❤
Amazing video guys!!
😊
As if I needed anything more to fall in love with these folks...❤❤
This is how life should be!
What an amazing extended family you have Harper. You're so blessed. ❤
Such a gorgeous town. The wonderful history, warm townspeople, and great food make it a paradise. Harper you are surrounded by beautiful ladies.
Harper ..Eva....you have been outstanding in showing us the beauty culture of Dasa! Oh no ! Lost my litte heart from Harper and Eva .I just edited comment on account of the music😢
If you have a chance to join them in one of their Pasta Grammar tours...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! I went on the 'A Week with Pasta Grammar in Dasa' in Sept 2023 and anyone who's been there will tell you that you should go!
@@LorienDrechsler I do want to !! ❤❤❤🇨🇦❤🇨🇦❤🙏🙏
@@LorienDrechsler it’s definitely on my bucket list!
You made me smile for 23 minutes. It felt like I was there with you. Felt like so much fun
This was amazing! I love the vibe and the immersion. Perfection! Well done Harper and Eva for taking us with you guys on a "normal" day :D
Omg omg omg I love Dasà❤
If you've ever been on the historic Old Columbia River Highway in Oregon you can see a lot of stone work that resembles what Harper filmed in and around Dasà, especially the opening shots. That's because when they planned and built the highway starting in 1913 they brought in Italian masons to do the stonework. That style of stonework remained common in public works projects in Oregon clear through the depression.
😮 wow! cool.
Hi to Eva
Blessings to all.😊🇺🇲
Oh my goodness.
Bellissimo
Definitely has to be one of my most favorite TH-cam channels 👍🏻
Tua mama e' bellissima! And thank you for this tour of Dasà
Why am I crying? Overwhelming beauty. Thank you, Dasà.
Not that I don't love every episode, but I LOVED this one! Getting to meet the family and friends and see some of the town and area around it was so special! Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤🇮🇹
Wow! And Katarina is such thr darling.
I want to live there in that tiny village❤. Its so full of community, laugher and love. It's my dream. THANK YOU❤❤❤❤❤
At around 15:30 there is a song sung at dinner that is very similar to one that my Mom taught us (her side of the family was Sicilian). It made me so happy to hear it again! A la familia!
Che Bella Vita in Italia, 🥰
Your mom is absolutely beautiful! Really enjoyed this episode! OMG about Cannoli! ! Piana degli Albanesi and the city of of Enna for sure have some of the best and also Trecastagni on Etna! What an amazing treasure Catarina!!!! I knew from the first 3 minutes that this was going to blow Paris away!
Omg your mother is STUNNING! Her skin is flawless!! 😮
Ciao Harper!
Siete in gamba, simpatici e intraprendenti.
Yes I too was wondering how they stay so fit after eating so much amazing food😮❤.
I just found your channel and this video has brought me to tears. My grandparents were born about an hour north of Dasa. My Nana in Angoli and Nanu in Miguilso. My first trip to Italy was just a few months ago for a wedding in Rome. No time to travel south but I do intend to see where my grandparents came from. Your video was everything I hope to experience when I go back. Thank you!
This was truly an exceptional video...thank you so much for sharing with us!
Catarina is adorable!! What a beautiful soul!! Your mom looked amazing, and it was a gorgeous video full of happiness, love and laughter as always! 🎉❤
What a Beautiful & A Very Sweet video! As far as the dish = All of them!! ;-)
This video encompasses the soul of dasa quintessential small town , where human connections light up the place ❤️
Thank you .
Piu, I want more ! More Dasa, more food, more good times with good people!
This was truly _amazing_ -- thank you all for sharing 🤗 but _how_ could you _possibly_ leave? I never could, as it's my idea of as close to heaven as it could be.
SO enjoyed this!! Dasa KNOWS how to really enjoy life!❤
Thank you Eva and Harper for this amazing experience of community and love that is Dasa, Italy. This was a beautiful experience for me. I can’t stop crying…Mille Grazie!
This video is one of the best things I have seen on TH-cam. The people were amazing in their own special ways. I love that we got to know them a little bit. The town was stunning. The food, lovingly prepared, was enjoyed with so many! Thank you for this lovingly crafted snippet of your time in Dasa. Please say hello to sweet Caterina!
Harper your mom is very beautiful!! She seems a very kind person.... take care of her.
Wow, I‘m living in Lapland right now. Watching this video is heartwarming, so much joy, so much emotion - you’re lucky people. ❤
Absolutely marvelous! I so enjoy all the videos. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the next one. Ciao!
Wow, just wow, what a fantastic video. What a fantastic adventure and experience, for you, your Mom and everybody who visit Dasà. Now on our list, since Calabria is our next destination.
