Here in New England we have a lot of traditional English dishes regardless of your ethnic background. In other words, you could be Italian, Portuguese, Guatemalan and grow up with those cuisines, but you also learn to cook New England dishes that are traditions the English brought with them. Shepherd's Pie here is a quintessential dish everyone makes, but here it's considered a blue-collar dish which is CHEAP to make. That means you can fill a large group of bellies for pennies on the dollar. A plate or two and you are almost set for the entire day. While most people cook it with the meat and mashed, many include corn or peas. I don't know if that is English tradition or something the Americans added over the years. It also ALWAYS gets served with gravy, no exceptions. In the New England version the meat is basically dry or a little moist, because you then have an excuse to slather it in gravy. It's a working man's meal and turn it into a gourmet dish would not go over well. In fact, you would definitely get laughed at if you were a waiter and mentioned gourmet meat pie for about $20. Here you can get a whole meat pie that would feed 2, maybe even three for about $10.
"but here it's considered a blue-collar dish which is CHEAP to make. That means you can fill a large group of bellies for pennies on the dollar." Same as England and the rest of the UK, we have to remember when these dishes were invented in 1700s, 1800s... there was leftovers from meals, nothing went to waste in those days so it was a hearty way to use the rest of the ingredients and the dish goes far, you can feed alot of mouths on not alot of ingredients. Also very comforting, i can imagine in 1700s/1800s when conditions were not great, having a comforting meal was a huge priority. Personally even today, i find it comforting and delicious. We make it probably once a month in my house. Pies are a favourite too, i wouldn't be a fan of that last pie, not because of the price i'm just a simple guy, i like steak pies with gravy lol
to be honest its above corn beef hash, and yes its always served with gravy here in the uk. But what most dont realise is that there isnt just one version of shepherds pie. It depends on which county you are in and which region. Then you get the cottage pie and the hotpot. All cheap meals.
It's delightful to see that the food of the gods, foie gras, is still enjoyed in some places. It was banned by moralistic food philistines in California several years ago.
Well it's a good thing it's still enjoyed in some places My name is David and I don't know if you are comfortable with this but i am sorry for interfering on your profile, Your post drew my attention to writing to you, most of your posts are really fun to watch, I want us to be friends if you don't mind Do you know anywhere else we can chat other than here

16:53 I had to pause and just take it in. That is amazing. I love a meat pie, from the meaty soup wellingtons of Greggs, to the homemade spectacle that was a treat at home as a child. Then there is this. Golden brown from high quality eggs, this is such a technical feat of culinary engineering. I also am sure that Ben and Jamie loved every minute of it. #SortedFood

That means you can fill a large group of bellies for pennies on the dollar."
Same as England and the rest of the UK, we have to remember when these dishes were invented in 1700s, 1800s... there was leftovers from meals, nothing went to waste in those days so it was a hearty way to use the rest of the ingredients and the dish goes far, you can feed alot of mouths on not alot of ingredients.
Well it's a good thing it's still enjoyed in some places
My name is David and I don't know if you are comfortable with this but i am sorry for interfering on your profile, Your post drew my attention to writing to you, most of your posts are really fun to watch, I want us to be friends if you don't mind
Do you know anywhere else we can chat other than here
I am from the UK and i can tell you now the second place they went to was by far the best.
"Pies are the best thing in the world. it's a british quintessentially best thing to do" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The look he gave her when she said that they had a vegan meat pie as well 🤣
"We call that a doorstep" - haha... I dont think Sonny realised we actually do call thick slices doorsteps. XD
Absolutely love this episode. I was so happy to see Sorted there! And Pie, Mash & Jellied Eeels. As West Ham as it gets!
I like when worth it team go to other concept that not as good as their previous concept, while best ever food review show moving toward worth it old concept which i think the best food channel concept
That last one was essentially a giant paté en croute. Looked delicious though
Dude, your videos are awesome, keep it real

Really good to see you trying some proper grub, we truly do love our pies! I'm not 100% sold on the really expensive pie but then I despise the texture of liver. Good call on including the boys from Sorted, I bet Barry was green with envy about not getting to try that pie as he's definitely the one for pretentious food :)
Dragging Jamie along for anything involving meat is a good shout though, he's definitely the man to go to for anything carnivore and stodge related :D
I can't believe the range of pies available in London. British food is indeed a rich tapestry embedded with history.
He almost got run over 😂😂😂😂😂
Not really. The vehicle was sooooo slow
"But first, something much more affordable"
-"Hiiii" -Emma 💀
:')
Oh 😱 he listens why broken heart Emma
'Hello' but, ok.
@@danmystro ugh bad boy 🙄...
Nice video. I'm favoured, $27K every week! I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work church. God bless America. Thanks to Sonia Duke
Wow I know Sonia Duke
I have heard a lot of wonderful things about Sonia Duke on the news but didn't believe it until now. I'm definitely trying her out
I'm glad to write her tay I do hope she will help handle my paycheck properly☺️☺️☺️
Can I start with as low as $1,000?
How can I get in touch with her
I always wanted to see a collab between these two channels!!
#SortedFood
9:08 is that lee anderson? 💀💀💀
No
Pretty sure it is 30p lee. Maybe he was out looking for whatever other bs he can claim on expenses?
The electric car probably wasnt the reason that he almost got ran over
@@luanasari5161 Ah, a mind reader I see.
Don’t want to put a downer on things as I love your videos. But you haven’t been to the uk. You have been to London by the looks of things. Try Scotland Northern Ireland or even wales 🏴
I'm sure when you visit Australia, you only go to one of the big cities and not somewhere in the bush.
Imagine sunny trying to pronounce welsh names
@@clashatdemonhed9554 would make my day
The last one is a Pate' En Croute. I don't think my chefs at school would have considered it a pie per se.
Yeah, but if the edgelord chef just admitted it was an overworked French dish he wouldn't get the credit for making a super fancy pork pie.
Sweeny Todd Made me want to try meat pies, Gordon Ramsey made me want to try sausage rolls and this random drunk man made me want to visit London, down a couple drinks and pig out on shepherds pie.
Sonny keep up the good work!! Been following the channel since 2017! I can’t wait to visit the UK
The last chef is still wearing a ring and a watch being balls deep in this filling. Bit upsetting for a high kitchen spot
And yet entirely compliant. It's called washing your hands.
3 dollars worth of ingredients, 10 dollars in labor and 687 dollars worth of pretentiousness.
The exact comment I was waiting for 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
British food looks a little sad but I'd love to try it all atleast once
This is the collab I didn't know I needed
Sorted Food! Love their channel so it was a nice surprise to see you’s work together for this video! ❤🎉
Where is jamies beard?
Love this collab! ♥
The random suit guy with the rose was perfect. Lol
So incredibly fun to see the Sorted boys!!! ❤
Longtime follower, so happy for a bit of a London series.
As a Brit, I look forward to watching these ones whilst I am on dialysis. Please could you do a video on ‘bangers (sausages) and mash’?
You’ll get stopped by police with an open beer on the sidewalk in MOST of the United States, but can’t forget Louisiana/New Orleans. Which is almost a completely “wet” state and where you can not only legally walk around outside with an open container of alcohol, but where they have drive-thru daiquiri shops. Re-read that last part.
My top three kiwi pies: Paua (abalone) pie, Hangi pie and Seafood pie. 😋 Pies ROCK!!!
nice. i'm from the UK, moved to the US, moved back to London. so glad to see someone enjoying stuff that nobody chose... this was subsistence food. make the best of a bad situation. seems ridiculous in one of the richest countries in the world but that's where we were. eels. figure out a way to make it good.
You know something's bad when sunny starts describing physical attributes rather than taste :D
