What you said about options is true, at least for scalping as a beginner. I've been paper trading SPY with options, and even if it would have been a 2-3 point gain on MES, because of the spread and premium fluctuation and commissions the trade would be negative. I'm still going to keep my options account for learning theta strategies later on so I can be more adaptable to different market conditions, but for scalping futures seem better because you can still profit from a so-so trade/get more base hits.
last 2 weeks i start with 300$ ++...i trade micro indices (MES/M2K/MNQ)..now already withdraw $680..balance remaining in acc 1100$... thanks for the volatile market...hehe I am the user of ampfutures as my broker and using CQG platform.
Day Trading Crude Oil Futures amazing right?! I’m so thankful for the micros bc it has kept the risk low and the profits consistent and high on these volatile moves. Nice job!
Day Trading Crude Oil Futures exactly. Couldn’t agree more. I intentionally only trade with $2500 right now so I can’t trade a mini. Plenty of money to be made with 1-2 micros. Also preserving capital for buying some cheap stocks 😁
Hi Brian, this video is so helpful and thank you very much for making this. Quick question: if I were to trade only nasdaq and Dow futures, is this process still applicable? I am mostly learning about contract size, position management, daily max etc. I want to do only Futures at this stage. Again, very helpful video
Brian, blown up my account "again"!! This is frustrating. I want to try to small account size according to your advice. My problem is trying Micro contracts take time to get any significant gains. I guess there is no other way for me. I want to start from zero again!! Is 10 trades a day (max) a good number to go by? I am clearly over trading.
@@jayjay-br3xv seems like you’re focusing more on the outcome instead of the process. Wanting bigger gains always leads to bigger losses and over trading. I always performed the best and consistently when I stuck to 2-3 ideas. If the first one worked I would call it a day. Did that for 2-3 months straight and made a monthly withdrawal every time. For me it was hard to maintain discipline as a day trader because the profits and losses happened so fast. Your mental game struggles expose themselves more intensely in day trading. Which is why I swing trade the bigger picture only now. Results have always been great and consistent over years swing trading so it’s important to pay attention to what works for you individually.
Hey again Mustafa! I learned to trade futures from two mentors that I met through a trading room and friendships. Spent the next two years really focusing on getting proficient with technical analysis and my psychology. I trade every day with my friend Kristin in a lie room. Here’s a link with info on that: priceleveltrading.com/pages/live-trading-room . Also mentioned in the other comment I’ll let you know when my futures trading course is finished
Is it possible with a $1200 to grow it? I am thinking that If I just trade one contract a day M-F and win at least a good percentage of it I should be able to grow it but only risk no more than 2% of my account. Do you think that would be a great start? I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!
Yes I think growing a $1,200 account trading micro futures is totally doable! But you will probably have to risk more than 2% of the account even trading with 1 contract. Even with $1,000 account allowing yourself 3 losses with 1 contract and a $10 stop loss you would be at 3% loss on the day. Depends on how you trade, but you will have to more aggressive. Having more capital simplifies everything!
Hey Darin! Awesome. Going really well and it's actually the new way I trade with less capital. Here's an update from 2 months ago: th-cam.com/video/adWGKWc8Eho/w-d-xo.html . I haven't made another video, but the account equity has been slowly going up
Thanks for sharing Brian! I'm an intraday trader, and I've been looking to try out futures, but I wasn't sure my strategy would clear the commissions hurdle. Do you have any advice/ commentary around the topic of commissions and fees? Thanks again for sharing.
No problem Jess! As far as commissions goes, Tradovate and AMP are about $4 roundtrip for minis and $0.70-0.80 for micros per contract. I know Tradovate offers a commission-free subscription for $200 per month. More info here: www.tradovate.com/pricing/
Hey Ron! The link is shareable in the video description. Note I have not updated that journal in over a year. I have just been using Sierra Chart's statistics.

Hi mate was wondering were you learnt how to trade futures as I am beginner and wanted to get into future trading?

Oh wow, thanks Brian! That's really helpful information. If you're ever in Columbus, OH drinks on me. Cheers.
JESS sounds great man!
Ninjatrader lifetime access is about 10 cents per contract micros
