The way I make eggs now is the food wishes method of soft hard boiled eggs. You add a half inch or so of water to the pan and shallow steam the eggs for 9 minutes, then rinse the pan with cold water and crack the eggs on the side of the pan. Once they are cooled in a few minutes the shell comes off basically in one big piece super easily

Mrs. B... Bicarbonate of soda is used to make super glue set faster. You dilute it and spray it on for example. The thing with super glue is, if it's stuck between two airtight surfaces it's not going to set very fast because it needs to evaporate the solvent. Works great on fabrics and permeable surfaces like skin

    • @lordofthe6string

You have to retry the Carmel kitchen hack from Kitchen Hack testing 13 three years ago.
You place the can of sweetened condensed milk in a pot (remove the label first), cover the can with water and low boil it for about 2-3 hours. Adding more water as needed to keep the can covered. After about 2 1/2 hours turn off stove and allow can to cool before opening. Then stir the contents to mix.
My favorite use is an easy carmel pie. Pouring it in graham cracker pie shell then cover with whipped cream and chill.

A regular skillet works pretty well for reheating pizza. It’s limited to 2 slices for even a big pan, but it does work. Spray the bottom of the pizza with a quick hit of oil or non-stick spray. Set it in a mostly covered pan on low or medium-low (depending on your stove strength) & check the top & bottom every few minutes until it’s done to your liking. It’s MUCH better than a microwave (but not as good as a toaster oven).

My top tip for peeling eggs, before cooking them, you make a tiny hole into the rounder end where the bubble is (there are egg puncher thingies for that to buy too, or I used a tip of a thin knife to carefully poke a tiny hole), and then you submerge the eggs into boiling water via a spoon… this causes the air trapped in the bubble of the egg to escape and pulls the membrane slightly more taut towards the eggshell. Once cooked, you just crack them all around and it easily peels off. Honestly, if you punch it correctly, there’s no problem peeling them, EVER.

About the eggs -- I start with boiling water and put the eggs in, bring it back to boiling quickly, then time 10-12 minutes (depending on how hard you like them), then put them into cold water. Sometimes I get a cracked egg, but they peel a lot easier.

It's really easy to crack walnuts just with a hammer without shattering the whole thing.
Take a light to medium light hammer with a fairly small head, ans gently hit along a line perpendicular (from the top/bottom not the side) to the line going around the walnut.
You should get whole walnut halves that aren't broken.

Instead of misusing a pop up toaster just buy a toaster oven that can both toast your bread and reheat your pizza. In my opinion a toaster oven is actually the best way of reheating a pizza and is better at toasting bread in the first place.
As for the spanner and gluing a nut onto lids, I just always have some channel lock pliers in my kitchen. I can't do big jars with them, but they work great for whenever my vegetable oil bottle decides it wants to be difficult. And since the pliers have teeth to grip the cap directly no need for super glue or a nut.

Interesting! How would you use a walnut cracker on a jar?

    • @clay3156
      @clay3156 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@mrbarrylewis Because the ribbles on the walnut cracker holds on to the lid and doesnt slip if you hold it tight enough. There are occasions where the lid is too wide but it works relatively well.
Ofcourse the automatic jar opener is a superior method. Or you make a gap with a fork or knife under the lid to loosen it. 😅

For removing shells of hard boiled eggs, tap them a flat surface then gently roll the egg while still applying some light force, then it will peel off almost as one

For hard cooked eggs, I put a tablespoonful of vinegar in my boiling water. My son learned that when he was a chef.

LOL!! Okay - no more super glue for Mrs. B and no more toaster hacks for Barry. Tip - use pliers to open a stubborn champagne cork. I just start it and then hand twist off with a towel over it, to catch the cork.

Yeah, that "n" was so immediate from Mrs. B with the coliflower because it's the truth who would ever sit there breaking the cauliflower part with an apple corner that you have to dangerously place your hands near the blades to get the core back out and then you could just cut the cauliflower with a knife or genuinely break it with your hands like Berry was doing

Great video as always! One little tip about the walnuts, is to get two between your hands and just press them against each other. They open VERY easily, you need almost no strength to do it :)

For super glue removal use some acetone just like you would remove nail polish.
Hack for boiling eggs, make a small crack into the shell prior to boiling, the water will seep in and separate the shell from the egg.
Pizza hack, use an air fryer.

loctite the manufacturers of super glue recommend the following on their web site to remove super glue from Skin
      1. Soap. Add some soap to warm water and then soak the skin. Once the glue has loosened, you should be able to simply peel it away.
      2. Lemon juice. If you have sensitive skin, try lemon juice instead. Just mix 1-part lemon juice to 1-part water.
      3. Olive oil or margarine are effective natural treatments. The grease helps to loosen the glue.
      4. Laundry detergent. Any brand should do the trick. Just mix ¼ cup detergent in a cup of warm water. After rubbing your skin for about 20 seconds the glue will come off.
Or you can use their own brand of super glue remover

Mrs B, the superglue issue at "hand' can be easily and fairly painlessly solved with hand sanitizer. The alcohol in it breaks down the glue, and it's usually not as drying on your hands as using just rubbing alcohol.

I think the egg one might originate in the USA. There they process fresh eggs by removing some of the outer layer of shell, hence their need to refrigerate them. Maybe the lemon hack is more successful with the thinner shelled American eggs.

I don't know about bottles, but with jars, just stick the tip ofa normal knife under the side of the lid and twist it slightly. The lid will pop and open easily. And it doesn't ruin the jar.

As soon as I saw this, I wondered about a egg hack.
To crack walnuts easy, take a small pointed knife and place in the hole on the large end twist. Pop apart.
    Frozen nuts work faster.
