A gift that keeps on giving, thank you for your thorough attention to detail.. I almost gave up on figuring out how to install the needle until I found some help. I couldn't see what they were doing on all the other videos that I was watching.
My 257 Husqvarna is 20 years old and was getting harder to start. One OEM Walbro carb kit and your tutorial and I’m back in business. Runs great, thanks
Thank you DON.Your video is one of the clearest and best explained out there. I have saved it for future reference when I service my own small engines.
Thanks - used this as a guide to rebuild by Echo blower carb. It was previously bogging down on start, taking 5 minutes of running before it worked. Starts and works great now. Just note the order of gasket vs diaphragm on reassembly as they are different on each side.
Thankyou . I followed your tutorial and just fixed my first small engine carby. I bought a brand new Echo blower and have been constantly having engine flooding problems for the last 2 weeks so I pulled apart this morning and found the lever was barely adjusted. I followed how to lift the lever and make level and now she starts instantly. Problem was driving me crazy not being able to use but now I know how to fix so much appreciated.
Just the exact video I needed thanks. The discount parts co. and another parts store charged $7.95 for the kit, but both places wanted $9.95 shipping. So I checked Amazon, an exact o.e.m. Walbro kit for $7.95 and free shipping.
Most everything from SCAMAZON is direct from China and not real deal Walbro parts. They are copies of the originals. Doubt you saved anything. To the contrary, probably have to order another kit to make it run right. Stay off of Amazon for mower slash trimmer parts.
I watched this a couple times, then when I couldn't start my McCulloch Pro Mac 10-10 due to a fuel issue, I removed the carb, took the metering cover and diaphragm off, discovered the metering lever had been adjusted way too low, starving it for fuel. I readjusted it, then checked the High and Low mixture screws, found the High was 1 turn out and the Low was 2 1/4 turns out! Somebody before me probably rebuilt this carb without checking the height of the metering lever! Thanks for this very detailed instruction video, it really saved the day for me. Be safe and have a great day!
Very good. Though when I do the pressure check I take it to where it pops off or opens. Around 15 psi. Then monitor tester to see where it re-seats. Should be around 5 psi. Needle should be wet per Walbro but I usually forget to do it anyhow. Thanks again.
Thanks Dony for your comments about those Carb Springs. The only way to retrieve them (once they pop-off) is with a Stealthy magnet over a large amount of territory. I have learned lately, however. Stay warm up there!
thanks for a good video. You edit raw film very well. great close up shots for this "small work". I think this is one of your best videos. keep em coming
I was once rebuilding a chain saw carburetor on our patio table, it was a nice warm day. I had just cleaned everything using my ultrasonic cleaner and had it sitting on a piece of cardboard on the table. I had just opened the package of parts and lay them out on the cardboard to get ready to assemble it. Suddenly a gust of wind blew the sheet of cardboard off the table and I watched as it flipped over the rail into my ferns and other plants below the deck. I almost died! Luckily, all the parts had dropped straight onto the deck, not over the rail. I was able to find all the parts, even that fine spring and the screen! After that, I learned to tape or use a weight on cardboard when working outside. Mabe my wife will let me build a workbench on the deck next summer!
Thanks for yet another great video. Great in both content and technical clarity. Your video quality is the best I've seen; always making sure we see what you are discussing as well as the focus and clarity.
thanks! the diaphragm was missing on the carb of an 026 I recently acquired and I couldn't figure out where it went ...the saw was a mess... it was not idling when i got it it was revving really high... I got it to idle perfectly by pure luck.. the gasket was missing on the metering diaphragm side and the diaphragm on the other side was also missing.. it would start on the first pull and i got it to idle and run perfectly this way lol.... then I ran it in winter mode on a super hot day and it started flooding no matter what I did. Took apart the carb and noticed the gasket missing. Then when i got the rebuild kit I noticed the translucent diaphragms for the other side which wasn't on the carb and had no idea where it went.. thanks your video really helped! :)
The die grinder is noted suggested and be careful with that air blowing into those check valves. Need to remove each adjustment screws too they are also bottleneck restrictions and can get jelled up after sitting for awhile.
Fantastic video sir, on the metering valve is it a standard practice on other carbs as well to be flush along the sides of the carb. I hope i explained that correctly. Thank you
Well I have to be honest when involving Jesus. I must have taken that carburetor off and apart at least 5 times. I spoke to a old timmer and he said it doesn't get gas it won't fire. YOU the man was sent to me in adjusting the needle valve. Thanks so much Brother.
Question, when you want to reset the jets on one of these carbs due to them being improperly adjusted by the PO, what's the procedure? Saw is a Huskvarna 375T
all the way in to completely seat them carefully to not over tighten ...then one turn out each is usually a good starting unless you have specifics on your saw than follow that
I'm having difficulty with Stihl MS 311 / 391 carburetor. Not sure how linkage and operaton is supposed to work. Would be awesome if you could explain some time. You're the best.
On the metering side. What is the brass colored thing with the hole in the middle? Mine looks like there is something behind it. Can that be removed for cleaning?
excellent video. i suggest you also add a link for carb pop out pressure tester sten 705-020. i have replaced jonsered 70e ignition. has 50 psi. how & where do i check for compression loss ? i have ordered new indian made vec piston & rings. txs
Hi Dony73, are gaskets needed between carb and air horn and also between carb and cylinder intake boot? Don’t see them in Walbro or Tillotson carb diagrams or kits and don’t see them or part number on chainsaw IPLs. Thank you!
Hi Donny, At the end of the video you checked to see if the HDA120 would hold pressure. If it did not hold pressure where would you look first for the loss of pressure?
Your videos are all so informative! Thank you! I have a Walbro HDA 116 carb and I cannot find a rebuild kit for it. Can you tell me what other Walbro carb rebuild kit I can use for my Walbro 116?
Hey Dony,I have a small similiar Tillitson, the nylon fuel inlet is cracked on both sides. I was told there is no replacement part. What direction do you suggest...maybe an petroleum friendly epoxy from Can Tire?
Great video quality all around. I'm rebuilding this exact carburetor. What about all of the other items that come in the kit? I don't think you made any comment about them. Thank you-
if they dont match anything in your carb they are most likely meant for a different carb... not sure if its always the case but the kit covers several models
If the gasket and diafragm ia confused position up down ora else, is that can make mechine cannot idle? Or is ok tha teh diafragment and gasket is confused
Dony I wonder If you have ever replaced a non primer bulb carb with a carb that incorporates a primer bulb. I have a Maruyama bc184 trimmer that has not been behaving for the past four years. I have rebuilt the Walbro carb twice using the kits but still gives me fits. Where it used to take a pull or two now takes twenty to start. I wish the carb had a primer bulb, are all of these replacement string trimmer carbs equal bolt ons? I know I would have to add a fuel line for vacuum to the the fuel tank but wondering if it's possible.
People say not to blast the ports out with carb cleaner and air. So how do you clean them out? Or is it not because dry to do it? I've been using carb spray and compressed air. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I've never seen it as a pressure gauge. I have seen vacuum type gauge is that the same as what you're talking about what is the brand and the part number that you have.
Do you know if the plastic elbow pieces that are on the walbro carbs you can buy separately? Ive got an old chainsaw where one has a crack on it, causing fuel to run back to the tank
Am fixng a Husqvarna 125b Blower for a friend of mine. What is the correct setting for the needles? Someone tampered with it previously and am having problems trying to make it work properly.
good job Don keep up the good videos. When I get stumped I go to your site, Jeremy Fountain's, Bruce Pender ( the Godfather of small engines -lol) and few others. thanks again
Don: Question I have a Walbro WT-134-1 carburetor cleaned it (ultra sonic cleaner) new kit, new fuel lines new fuel filter and new primer bulb this is installed on an older Homelite timberman 45cc saw. runs good then it looses its prime! I remove the top of the carburetor and have plenty of fuel coming in to the carb however the primer bulb is squishy after removing the top of the carb the primer seems to work and gets the prime back! What do you think might cause this?
I have a Walbro carb on my Homelite gas leaf blower that is giving me problems. First off once I get it started it won't increase in speed. And while running gas runs out the air filter. Does this mean I need a new diaphragm ? Thanks !!
Hey Don how would you replace the Welch plug on that carb. That part is easy I noticed in most rebuild kits they provide the Welch plug but I've never installed one. How do you do that?
You Polk a hole ( carefully ) in the old one and remove it. Clean the passageway and put the new plug ( round Ed side facing out ) in and put a small dimple in the rounded hump to force it against the side of the hole to seal the hole. That’s it.

This is an A-1+++ video. Super clear shots and explanation. Others here on youtube could take some important lessons on how to make a vid from you.
