I played Wizardry V as a kid. I was the only person I knew who owned it, and none of my friends were interested at all. But, that didn't stop me from sinking a lot of hours into it: finding secret doors, GRINDING levels and gold, searching for better equips, etc. And this was through trial-and-error too, I didn't have the internet to tell me where to go or what to do. I never beat it back then, but later I replayed it as an adult (with strategy guides AND a gamegenie code to speed up level grinding because my time is too limited now to do it the right way) and I finally did beat it. As long as you're playing Wizardry V you get a watch and a like from me.
