I saw them in Blackpool England, of all places, in the Empress ballroom with a spring mounted dance floor and huge chandeliers. It was absolutely sublime!

'Heima' means 'At Home' in Icelandic, this was part of a 'homecoming' tour after the band had been touring around the world for a while, the band basically felt a bit homesick and they wanted to play the music for their fellow Icelanders, so they held a bunch of free open concerts around different outside locations in Iceland. Lucky for us they also had someone document it all on video.

Nick and Lex - thanks for reacting to this for me :) Lots of people below already filled in the details but yes they are from Iceland (where the video was filmed). There is an entire film of the band playing all over Iceland called Heima so that's what this is pulled from. Not sure what this location is exactly but what a cool place to see them. This is such an incredible, uplifting song. And like others said, it doesn't matter what the lyrics are to be honest, it's the feeling you get from the vocalizations and music that makes you feel so many emotions. Hope you guys check out more of their stuff as they are totally worth it. Thanks again, Greg.

It was filmed in a place called Ásbyrgi in the North East of Iceland. A beautiful place, one of my favourite places in Iceland. It's a horseshoe-shaped depression and legend has it that it was formed when Slepnir (Odin's horse) touched one of its feet to the ground...

Hei! Takk fyrir! 11:11 Icelandic translation follows:
    Smiling
    Let's go in circles
    Lets hold hands
    The whole world is blurred
    unless you stand
    Drenched
    All soaking wet
    No rubber boots
    Running in us?
Wants to burst out of the shell
    Wind in
    and excluded? of your hair
I hit as hard as I can
    with my nose
    Jump into a puddle
    In no boots
    All soaking wet (soaking wet)
    In no boots
    and I get nose-bleeds
    But I always stand up

Back in 2007 in art school a friend had this dvd, after it was just released. We went to a room with a projector and put it on. Magic. Sigur Ros had massive international success and toured the world for two years. Then they went back to Iceland and did a of tour free shows. They called it Heima, which means home.

They're sooooo fucking good live spent half the time crying. My wife couldn't go with me, neither my colleague who liked them so I asked my friend if his partner wanted to go as the only other person I knew who liked them. Was great to give the ticket to someone who would enjoy it!

It just adds to the brilliance and ambiance of this unique band. Very heartfelt. Great reaction, guys. You look immersed and happy. ✨🤪 Oh, and remember: Jonsi uses a bow on guitar - wow.

Yeah - the wonder world of Sigur Ros. Their album 'Ágætis byrjun' catapultet us into underwater worlds that were at the same time snow deserts or something like that in the late 90s. 😄
They sing in Icelandic and/or an artificial language the band calls 'Hopelandic'. So even subtitles probably wouldn't help.

Since you enjoyed this, I highly recommend getting the whole movie, entitled Heima as well. It's a mesmerizing, gorgeous and subtle masterpiece. Sigur Ros has a breadth of songs, which I usually describe in terms of their homeland (Iceland), ranging from the slow crackle of a glacier to a powerful volcanic explosion. Their music is truly informed by their land. :)

Sigur Ros is a top 10 band/artist. Radiohead and Primus compete for number one everyday. There are about 25 bands in my top 10 (😂😂😂) - I am not a math major. Here are about another 16 bands/artists in my top 10. Rush, King Crimson, Bjork, Social Distortion, Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys, Outkast, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Bowie, The Who, and Bonnie Prince Billy.
Putting my bad math and silliness aside, Sigur Ros is one of those bands that I can play at anytime and feel satisfied. There are only a few bands that can do that for me.

Sigur Rose is a band from Iceland. Tom Yorke is fan. I think that place in the video is a place were they used to have a ”Ting” back in the Viking days. Or ”Thing” in English, an governing assembly of free man that later more or less involved into our modern democratic Parlamentarism.

Hey, the rare modern band that I love (along with Radiohead, and, you know, one or two others)! This song is GENIUS! And I also love Portishead. Lexi (or Nick), are you familiar with the Cocteau Twins?

  • @eximusic
    @eximusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

About time - one of the best bands of the 00s. And prog by every definition. Sigur Ros is way beyond Radiohead as far as experimentation and undermining traditional song structures. This live clip from Iceland is beautiful. The language in their lyrics is Icelandic or just made up nonsensical language.
You should also react to Mogwai - Hunted by a Freak off their Happy Songs for Happy People album.

Typical of Americans to not look at where this band is from.. I doubt if they know that this country is the edge of their continent, slowly opening as the tectonic plates centred there pull apart. I hope they know that Jumping in Puddles is a celebration of those older in the community of..... ICELAND..
