I grew up in Clifton. We used to go shopping in Passaic at Ginsburg's and The Fair and get lunch at Blimpie's. As teens we took the bus to a boutique called Treasure Trove.
Beautiful camerawork. It feels like the camera is floating along taking in every drop. I grew up in Passaic on Washington Pl. Hoping you make it there. Peace.
I lived in Passaic with my father, it wasn't full time but when I was out there I knew the whole neighborhood, I could probably walk around Passaic by myself and end up back at the apartment, Market Street ❤
Very sad to see this. Passaic used to be so full of people and great stores. I lived there as a little girl from 1953 to 1957. I have great memories of the schools and the parks and the businesses. My old neighborhood in Passaic Park is pretty much gone. The house was torn down. At that time, it was way better than where we can from which was Hollis, Queens.
Nice video, nice to see Passaic. The only avenue that I have heard and I have passed, is Main Street. Main Street in Passaic is like Paterson Plank Road here, lol.
Passaic has gotten worse over the years The previous mayor was arrested This was in 2007-2010 era The houses look like crap The people there are very disrespectful Building more schools isn’t going to improve anything Two areas could have been parks the one area near Home Depot and the bridge and the one near a school and the Mural They removed the mural and the Virgin Mary and replaced it with a guy who tortured illegals The implementation of uniforms made life more expensive I left in 2011
Laz' pharmacy still on Broadway?? I lived in an apartment in Passaic Park for one year in the 1990s. This is a relatively safe section of the city. Crazy lady downstairs reported me for non-existent "noise" complaints. AND...I got burglarized on Christmas Eve Day. I was on an upper floor, so it had to be an inside job. Lost a camera, portable electronics, and a paycheck. The crackhead also (unbeknownst to me at the time) stole money market checks from way down in the sequence, and cashed them, using an electric company "Energy Manager" ID. The idiot tellers at several branches of then-First Fidelity Bank didn't get suspicious for several weeks. He looked like his name was DeShawn Johnson. My name is more like Chayim Shapiro. Finally-a manager calls me, and tells me the bad news. So-I ask: "What does he look like?" The B acts innocent: "What do you MEAN??" "Well...is he old, young, white black?"... (hesitates) "He's an...Old White Guy with no teeth in his mouth." So-I go to her branch, and he shows me the ID: "Sorry-he's Black." No s**t, Sherlock. I got the funds back from the bank, after some haggling. I moved to Hackensack the next year. No perfect, either. But not Passaic. Parts of Monroe Street are really "Hood."
You definitely know what you're talking about! I lived in Passaic for 4 years 2000-2004. I would always avoid Monroe Street. I still miss Passaic some days, though. I made some pretty cool friends during those years that I lived there. Saw snow for the first time. My first job I had there was at a Shop Rite Supermarket that was on Paulison Avenue. I worked at a Petland Discounts store in North Bergen, also. I saw NYC for the first time. I'll never forget those years.
@@fishingbarracudas4768 I had to have hospital priveledges at Passaic Beth Israel, Passaic General, and St. Mary's, along with Barnert in Paterson. I used to primal Scream when I had an admission in the latter. Have to fight traffic on Rt. 20-always under construction-and, if it was an ICU admission, you needed to be there in under an hour. The Boss didn't want to miss out on any hospital admission money. Barnert is long-gone, as is St. Mary's. The "Canary swallowed the Cat"...little Beth Israel bought Passaic General, and abandoned their little building in The Hood. There were tenements with a 1900 dedication date there-a throwback to the Silk industry.
My Grandmother had a beauty parlor on Broadway in the 40s my Grandfather had a barber shop on Monroe st for 55 years till the mid 70s . I was raised there for the first 101/2 years of my life. Family involved in politics, and civil service there. Looks nothing like the wonderful town I knew up to the late 60s when the influx took over, and changed the demographics, and culture. Not a nice place to be if you are non ethnic.

I used to go to Blimpies when it was near the Jefferson bakery. Miss the 80s and 90s

Bonitos recuerdos, viví en Passaic 21 años, eran otros tiempos.

This could have been shot during the pinnacle of the pandemic which could explain the lack of people.
It's still lively especially when summer hits.
@@ThatGuy-du3sq nah its terrible now

Walking is a very healthy activity. Main Ave connects Paterson, Clifton and Passaic, even Nutley.
Good old days!!!
Passaic has gotten worse over the years
The previous mayor was arrested
This was in 2007-2010 era
The houses look like crap
The people there are very disrespectful
Building more schools isn’t going to improve anything
Two areas could have been parks the one area near Home Depot and the bridge and the one near a school and the Mural
They removed the mural and the Virgin Mary and replaced it with a guy who tortured illegals
The implementation of uniforms made life more expensive
I left in 2011
@Two Boys it really was
I left in 2002 with the parents before all that happened. But it's nice that the video brought back the memories of the Passaic we once knew. 😢😔
I could not see one Black Person walking the streets I move south 6yrs ago. Passaic will always be my home.
Born and raise here, I live in FL now!
Same here Passaic always going to be home but now I live in Florida
I live here and whenever I go shopping with my family I basically know everything
That’s not even downtown. You went uptown to midtown
Most people call the shopping area downtown. I think that’s what he means
In Passaic 95 % of the people there speak Spanish
Spanish is the most common language in the US except English
Even me speaks Spanish, lol

Estuve alli hace 2 semanas mychas tiendas para comprar todo lo q se te antoje realmente chido les recomiendo darse una vuelta por alli

At least the liquor stores are open.
USA is a big, sometimes sad, country.
