*Happy Thursday! We finally have a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh news to talk about this week! Plus two interesting tech stories that aren't just doom and gloom! PLUS some great listener questions from you guys. It's just a great week of stuff so please weigh in with all your thoughts!* 🙏🏾
Konami should come back with deck cost power rating, just like they did in Duelist of the Roses. With meta decks having a higher rating and with the two options: 1) Duel similar DC rating 2) All welcome That way you can choose when you get into casual duels, if you want them to pair you to similar level decks. Also gives you a superficial idea of how weak/strong your deck is compare to other decks around.
TCG still hasn't received Tactical Try decks, nor has there been an announcement for them in the TCG. Which is somewhat a shame, a one time purchase for a solid and playable deck? Not to mention the fact that there are multiple decks, giving players choice when they're on boarding and they receive support in later core sets. TCG needs OCG to take over
@apsamplifier it IS criminal. The rarity bumping, the poor quality in TCG exclusives watering down sets, the still present censorship of card names and art (which are some rather silly censors btw). I'd be fine with a continued delay in release compared to OCG/Japan, if it meant we'd merge into OCG. One Piece already has this kind of setup, but Bandai doesn't shift around rarities of cards when they reach the West. Staples like Gecko Moria on release was like $15 base and he's still very much a relevant card in the game, he even got a reprint which lowered his base price quite substantially while his alt arts hold up pretty well.
@@Saixjacket Tactical Try decks gave you playsets of a significant number of cards, there were only a handful of slots that had one or two copies where you MIGHT want an additional copy. They weren't like structure decks where it's 40-45 Singleton.
@@otterfire4712 there is no “one time purchase” in yugioh lol. Those tactical try decks are just fodder for competitive decks at this point. Unless they have a format for themselves, Konami will just release the new support that you gotta get blah blah blah.
I actually disagree about the crystron support. I feel like the play style has been simplified, but is still possible to play in more of a "control" style that I've always loved about the deck. I feel it shows the diversity between the "correct" play and the "skilled" play
I really want to watch Paul play with a lower tier deck and test to see just how much of a chance something like Maxx C gives him for a win. I have a strong feeling the people he plays against will not care, once they see they're up against something that can't actually compete.
Maxx c isnt making ancient warriors or fucken dual avatars more playable, when you get the bug the best thing that can happen is drawing into more handtraps. Apart from the hand advantage which is gas for any deck its not making weaker themes better at all.
What do you think of Short Story Format.. Cards limited to a maximum of 2 lines of effect. Pack filler gets replaced with new generic cards with max 2 lines of effect - nice easy format for beginners Yugioh players don’t like reading anyway 😂
Or old people like me that need a magnifying glass to successfully read the longer text lmao. The amount of times we've had to pause our friendly card games when someone plays a new deck in the group in order to read effects
What Every Player wants from Yugioh: 1) Get to play out to your full potential 2) After I fully finish doing my thing, to combat the opponent(weather it's by battle or any other means) and it would be fun even if you lose because you 1) got to do your thing 2) got to fight your opponent --------------------- Handtraps and similar things just simply ruin the fun, they just stop you from doing YOUR thing. Konami should balance yugioh around the hypothetical fact that hand traps don't exist, and remove all handtraps
@@CatGuy969 mmmm I have a different perspective on this now yes when meta decks use it it’s not fun because it’s a blow out on a blow out but like with cards like barrone savage dragon and appo it gives some under performing decks a chance now do I believe it shouldn’t be that way sure but unfortunately unless Konami makes every deck type and archetype equally powered theres no other real way to do it
So.... this Marvel TCG and DC tcg that you two are discussing is just Versus System from 2005. It was a ton of fun! The first decks they released were X-men vs Brotherood and Gotham Knights vs Arkham Inmates. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!! Each set would alternate on which universe they pulled from. So it started with DC begins, which had Batman, Superman, Arkham Inmates, Gotham PD, Lex Luthor and the Revenge Squad. Then came Marvel with the X-men, Brotherhood, Fantastic Four and a bunch of un-teamed villains. It covered a huge swathe of all of the teams, from well known to really obscure. And even added in Hellboy for a special set. Sadly, the game died in 2009. Then came back in 2014 as a purely Marvel game, but completely restructured in gameplay and layout and....really shouldn't have had the same name. Now, aside from Marvel SNAP, Marvel also has Legendary, which is a cooperative deckbuilder game, and Marvel Champions, which is sorta like a cross between Warhammer and Heroclix. I know they tried to launch anothef TCG a couple of years ago and it fell flat. The problem is a lot of the characters and usages of said characters and the artwork of them can be reslly, really expensive and require very specific contracts to do them. Because, unlike yugioh or MTG, where this is the only instance of use of this character, Marvel and DC characters are also tied up in various creators, artists and owners rhat all need to be paid. Marvel found a way to make a deal with their artists, which is why you see more MARVEL IP everywhere than you do DC. DC refused to make a deal, which is why they pulled out of Versus System for its last year and ultimately caused the game to die, as Marvel didnt want to front the whole game by itself.
I feel like they would have you create a profile that included a financial range that you earn and require a profile picture. Then when you go in, it would recognize you and apply the price accordingly 1:27:09
Another big thing from the Early Days Collection is the removal of deck capacity in the early games which, for games like Reshelf is a god sent. It'll make the game actually fun to play
I dont care for new cards but i hate when konami hits key pieces in older decks forcing you to have to buy the new cards or quit the game. I want to play my 7 decks that I already own and maybe buy a new strategy that i actually like. I dont enjoy that my decks are trash now and the only decks winning locals are the new decks. Yugioh is so expensive and the lifespan and a decks time being competitively viable is terrible. Not worth the money at all. Also a game is more skilled when there are more good decks. Pokemon does the best job at skill expression because there arent just 3 best decks you actually have a chance to be creative where as Yugioh is just my new shiny deck beats your old deck all the time, why do you even play this game?
Personally, the compilation games is something I'm actually looking forward to getting physically on a switch, mostly as a person who really enjoys physical gaming - having the retro games on a cartridge really throws it back
In regard to shifting to a collector focus is to look at work something like Grand Archive is doing. Their version of YCS’s have two streams you can compete in. The regular competitive stream is path of steel. Runs like any other tournament. While the other stream is known as path of silver. This is for collectors where players submit a number of cards in their collections and gain points based on rarity but also have kind of hidden combos of cards that gain extra points that players can try and work out. It is only possible with alternative arts and what not though.
1:38:00 I can relate to that so much. When I saw the Sinless sinful spoils card I was so glad the both witches got their good end but their now deceased family watching over them was so sad. I was about to go into the comments and all people talked about was how this card won't see any play. Yeah, I don't care for that, I'm happy I got a good lore closure man 😅
1:35:42 there’s a few things they could do to increase collectibility. 1) full arts as you said 2) signature cards (which would require acknowledging artists) 3) actually finding somewhere to bring back flavour text other than just on vanillas. 4) alt arts, preferably anime related alt arts 5) “retro” printing of cards
Mondo is such an awesome company. I’ve been buying their prints for years. I always go to their booth at comic con. They are super under rated. If y’all can go I would say it’ll be one of the dopest yugioh events. Mondo always does great stuff
A question I’d like to ask Alec about his opinion on erratas vs new releasing cards. Would you rather have a cards text changed or Konami just release a new card? I think I’m a fan of changing card text that way less cards are actually on the forbidden and limited list.
How to beat dystopian Kroger: Wear a disguise. Anything from a facemask/sunglasses to a little bit of paint on the face (not necessarily makeup). Facial Recognition is not NEARLY as good as large corporations would lead you to believe. But most of all, just shop somewhere that doesn't do that dystopia.
How would the grocery pricing work if you order online? Does it scan the employee and price your food based on how the person assigned to shop for you? It sounds so incredibly flawed.
Regarding the Pokemon TCG Pocket Trading, if you're a whale you probably already have multiple copies of the cards that you CAN trade for. What whales want is to trade for those higher rarity cards like Full Art EXs, Rainbows, Immersives and Crowns which we can't do. I don't need to trade for a 7th full art Dedenne XD Hopefully by the time the 3rd booster pack comes out they will let you trade for ALL cards in set 1 and 1.5.
If they were going to make trading in Pokemon TCG Pocket so ridiculous that it's unusable then they shouldn't have wasted the time implimenting the trade feature in the first place. It's like if I started up a grocery store but I made it as confusing as possible to find whatever food items you wanted to buy on top of making it confusing as to where and how you pay for the groceries let alone finding your way back out.
Your perspective on MAXX C is flawed IMO. That situation only works if you assume the other player is NOT running MAXX C. If they are, the meta dexk just drops their own MAXX C on the next turn and draws better cards.
Thinking about Yugioh being more collectable, I found interesting you couldnt come up with a way, since you nailed that point on the marvel/dc hypothetical tcg: star power and narrative. Yugioh needs to make characters out of the monsters. For that you need the anime, manga or games to tell stories to endear you to characters. A big thing with DM/blue-eyes is that we got their back story before they were sealed in stones. Imagine a videogame set around the memories of the pharaoh where you have to go in towns to seal monsters and then use them to defend the kingdom from bigger threats. Probably you'd need different storytelling devices to connect futuristic monsters, but that gives a door to not to make a pokemon/yokai watch ripoff
hey APS much love from florida been watchin yall for about 3yrs now love the content......but i must kno were did u get the blue eyes poster in the background from?????🙏🙏🙏
The old games are the last time all the cards might be included in the game without having to get cards via micro transactions. I miss Yu-Gi-Oh! games being incomplete inside the game for free after you buy it. So like $25-$45 for the full game and all the cards. Compared to duel links and master duel being free but you can spend over $1000 and not have every card lol 😂
@apsamplifier i know I'm joking. I just tried to think if there's anything funny i could think of and all i could imagine is a pokemon box prices changing from 20 to 80 when they see the hoard of people fist fighting approaching.
The physical Early Days Collection comes with one Harpie's Feather Duster, but the art you get is random. On a related note, there are actually three versions of Duel Monsters 4 which are included in the collection. Basically its like Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow but it's Yugi/Kaiba/Joey. Each version allows you to play one of the God Cards, but it needs to be obtained and then traded from a different version first (yes its pretty confusing). That's probably why the trailer highlights the online functionality for that game.
About the "canon matters" discussion. I think it's more of a "chronological continuity matters", that is what any writer would agree with. Characters need story, or else they are just archerypes, fictional words need story, or else they are just scenery. I think Marvel and DC have been handling that discussion and management very good (with it's ups and downs). For example, Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns is one of the most acclaimed comics, yet non canon, but it works upon a well established Batman canon (story). And what's in the cronological continuity can change with time, like Bucky's death (he was revived to become Winter Soldier only decades after his death in the comics). Anime fans are just not used to that discussion and understanding as comic book fans are, like a cultural understanding among the fanbase. But that is probably soon to change as more anime IPs become larger and bigger. For example, you don't see Gundam fans disputing "what's canon?".
Honestly I think it is relatively fair. Compared to Master Duel, you can see it is similar, with the way their crafting system works. Just that Pocket has stamina for their trades. If the stamina was removed, it would've been less of a hassle. This is getting taken a little out of hand. Of course I understand for F2P players, it doesn't make things easy. But it doesn't reward those that drop loads of cash and have tons of copies to breakdown. Imagine Pocket having the Master Duel system, pay to win made easy. 56:23
I'll be real, TCG Pocket trading stuff is so bad, I'm just uninstalling it. The whole reason I picked up the app in the first place is because I was excited to get to trade cards with people, something you don't get to do with any other digital card game, and then they implemented it horribly. I don't trust them to ever run it fairly in the future, so it's time to get out, sadly.

Dear Days 2 has vintage support and queue, as well allows you to transfer the cards you have from DD1. 70 is a lot, but worth honestly.

Paul you could film a reaction to the entire video and edit it down to the main topics you want to talk about

Honestly, fair
@apsamplifier have y'all heard about the new Vtuber TCG? Figured that would make for an odd tidbit on the next show. It's called VCard
That is super interesting, I'll have to check it out!
