    I fucking love this kind of video. I know it's not realistic to do all the time because you can only play with the deck so much but as a semi casual that has interest in being good at this silly card game we all love, having a video like this to learn a thought process and how to attack deck building is hugely beneficial. I know there are other TH-camrs that do it but your energy and personality make it so much easier to listen to and engage with

      As someone who's decent at the game, but *miserable* at deck building, I gotta admit this is pretty eye-opening too, the way he tackles it and plans for things in the combo, and tries to get around the strengths and weaknesses of the deck honestly changed my view on how I deckbuild, and to be honest I kinda wanna take this mentality into one of my own pet decks to see where I can bring it- what I can cut, what I need more of, etc. etc. (It's non-engine by the way, I need to do trimming and add in more non-engine)
      And even past that, it's entertaining to see him actually overcome those obstacles in an interesting way-
      I wish you luck on your deckbuilding too, though!

      100% agree. We need more people to put an emphasis on deckbuilding in the Yugitube. Less TH-cam combos and more people sitting down, opening Paint, Edopro, and going like "OK, let's solve that deck's issues". The issue is that it's not "entertainment" and a lot of people are bored by deck explainations and will leave the video... but it's just, really needed? I wish more people would do that and for all tiers of decks, try to come with a best possible version.

      It helps that he builds with a chat. Giving him ideas. The best decks are build with a group brainstorming and checking what works. Used to do it with a friend who had insane card knowledge sadly he doesnt play anymore. I really need to get to play locals again to get more knowledge again and build more different decks on edo pro and such.
      What also helps are discord communities if you dont have access to a lot of rl friends.

    The weakness of HERO is that it's 4 archetypes in a trench coat and Konami are dumb enough to buy the disguise as a solo archetype. All of the hero archetypes barring Xtra, have unique gameplay concepts, but Konami has done nothing to adapt those unique playstyles. Stratos and Shadow Mist are the only hero searchers in the game. So by design all of the other Heroes are forced to work with them. It's less genuine synergy, and more so outright homogeny.
    Elemental Hero spins its wheels for no real payoff. It took up until recently for Elemental by itself to get a piece of interaction with the Wingman Retrain into Shining Neos. Destiny Hero only offers DPE and Mali. None of the original game plan of the archetype has been modernized or adapted into a newer strategy. Meaning all they add to the equation is the fact they can make DPE and provide a hero resource loop with Mali.
    Vision Hero is just Faris and Increase. Increase is a card that SHOULD be crazy, but instead, it's the hardest garnet on the planet in a deck that doesn't even like playing it. Vision Hero has a unique design concept with all of the level 3s as continuous traps, but Minimum Ray is the ONLY one with a decent interactive effect, and that isn't cutting it. There are so many ways to build off of their unique playstyle of continuous trap monsters, but who cares when they're just HERO extenders?
    Masked Hero straight up only offers Dark Law. Contrast is a decent negate, but near unsummonable and the other Masked Heroes just don't really do anything. Blast , Dian, and Acid are all decent, but they don't actually offer anything that makes them worth summoning over something like Dark Law. Add to that, the fact the other hero attributes aren't even worth having in rotation. By all means, the archetype is supposed to be working with Elemental Hero, but ironically it works with D Hero instead as a result. There's no cool concept of rotating attributes to also rotate the Masked Heroes you can make. Just an archetype that has decroded into an "engine" in HERO.
    Evil Hero was nothing at all before Adusted and Bane were printed turning it into a mini engine. Nothing unique in gameplay happens between all of these engines coming together. They're just loose ideas of a "good" endboard. The new Evil Heroes are cool because they actually made Evil more individualized. Of course it still is intended to work with other heroes, that's sort of the entire point of the archetype, but the Super Poly pivot corrects for the original's design flaw. Dark Gaia was made with Super Poly in the anime, but just couldn't be in the actual game. I'm hoping if Evil Hero gets more support in the future, the next step is expanding off the Elemental Hero to Evil fusion aspect of the archetype as well. It'd be a step towards actually making the decks synergistic rather than homogenous. Overall, the Evil hero stuff makes me a little more hopeful for future support of other hero archetypes.
    HERO will become better if Konami actually designs the individual HERO archetypes to have synergy, rather than making them a homogenous blob of nothing. Because then they'd actually DO something. I grew up on GX and loved all the heroes and it's so unfortunate that every time I see them, I just can't help but think: "Damn, these are boring as hell."

    • @ToniBlaster
      @ToniBlaster 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +14

      Let's not forget Dian, Divine Wind and Anki battle effects don't work when placed next to Dark Law, because they have to send the destroyed monster to grave and Dark Law prevents that.
      Vision Hero Gravito has an effect that returns a banished Hero back to the hand, but it's not worth summoning it with Increase over Vyon.

      I feel like heros arent boring... but i always end up feeling like "is that it?" When i see them or their end board.. so many hoops just for something mediocre or that does a 1 dimensional thing.. all the boss monsters only do 1 thing, pop a card, a banish field that doesnt actually banish on command.. Heroes feel like you need to learn so many complicated combos just to some boss monsters that other decks summon with 1 to 3 cards.. but they always have looked fun or the idea that if i play them in story mode i would beat the NPC sensless lol

      @@TheSuperf12 Let's go:
      I have no problems playing as a bunch of subarchetypes, even because Modern YGO is a bunch of engines.
      My problem is the meaningless restrictions combined with subarquetype restrictions that KONAMI has been putting in place.
      She can put HERO lock on everything she launches, but at least not create 200 new garnets for each launch.
      A lot of things would be resolved if she stopped providing support only for "Neos", "Destiny", "Elemental" and so on and focused on only providing support for "HERO".
      I get pissed every time I read Infernal Wing - Backflash and I know I need to use Avian or Burn instead of 2 HERO monsters like Adoration.
      Not to mention nonsense things like asking you to control monsters that were summoned by Dark Fusion, instead of just asking for a card that lists Dark Fusion in the Gy text.

    Thinking about it, it would be nice if HERO card design more closely followed the original intention of HERO from the anime: Jaden/Judai's HERO deck, rather than some big bungus combo fest, was a toolbox deck that pivoted between different fusions to match whatever situation he found himself in. It'd be cool if we got more stuff like that for the archetype, like maybe a sort of quick-synchro esque effect that allowed you to summon out different guys on your opponent's turn and fuse them into whatever would be most effective for the deck you're up against.

    Loved the video, I enjoyed the fact you came in with the willingness to throw away whatever you thought was holding the deck back, I think it's obvious a lot of people like to keep their favourite decks "pure" despite it making them less competitive. I think keeping it "pure" is something I'm okay with for TMT since the goal is to focus on one specific archetype and/or strategy, so just mixing it with random competitive cards loses the meaning in showcasing that deck. I hope you can do more of these types of videos to show how people could be more competitive with deck building and how strong more decks could be if they were built to be as competitive as possible. Of course I would say do it with decks you're more familiar with and like, otherwise it's not worth doing. You could also maybe bring in other "experts" of decks to get their opinion on their favourite pet deck and how to make it as competitive as possible.

I usually dont comment on videos but this one is a banger

    I love this kind of analytical deckbuilding vid. If you don’t feel familiar enough with other archetypes, might I suggest collaboration videos with other yugitubers (or streamers or longtime viewers or what have you) who have devoted themselves to particular decks like you have with HERO?
    It’d be cool to see people break down the strengths and shortcomings of their fave decks and try to make something competitive by rethinking their strategy.

    Videos like this are exactly what ygo at large is missing tbh breaking down the thought process behind how to construct a deck.

      AS its own Evil HERO deck getting its own playstyle, i kinda dig it
      BUT SAYING this is the direction a general HERO deck should take kinda hurts hearing as it just "become another flavour of fiendsmith"

    • @enlongjones2394
      @enlongjones2394 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

      At a certain point, I feel like maybe fiendsmith is less a full deck that takes over others, and more of just a really strong engine. Like Aleister or adventure before it. This does leverage fiendsmith to go crazy, but it does end on a bunch of evil hero things, and mostly uses those cards to interact. I don’t feel the same about this as I did about that time when every deck was ending on the same generic synchro boards by going through Halq.

    • @ianr.navahuber2195
      @ianr.navahuber2195 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ adventurer token IS a deck
      that NOBODY wants to use the deck as intended and prefer to use it as an engine is another thing entirely.
      ALTHOUGH I agree on your take. AT LEAST HERE, it is an engine meant to help more the Evil HERO Endboard rather than the deck itself being used like an engine to end on generic extra deck vomit machine.
      Like how they use Pendulum cards like superheavy samurai.
      And i say that as a superheavy samurai player that hates that the wakaushi / big benkei monk engine has been used for just generic extra deck vomit machine. although I blame Konami more for not giving them more tools that make you consider going fro the actual superheavy samurai strategy.
      if they had gotten a foolish burial like effect, they would minimum have flutist as a target negate

    This was great deck building! I'm a big fan of this approach, acknowledging a theme's insurmountable flaws and trying to take it in a completely different direction. Plus it's always cathartic to see cards dismissed as bad being shown as actually quite good when taken seriously. I love the new Evil Hero support and even I'm shocked to see how well it can function with so few Hero staples.

    I enjoyed this video a lot, and it was quite interesting trying to approach the deck from a new angle which the new evil hero extender actually will help in Alliance insight.
    My Issue with a lower to the ground hero approach is that it doesn't get to play the best hero extenders that are self sufficient in a simplified game state after you pushed through your opponent board.
    My preferred way to play and the one I have had the most success with, is blind second hero. I say blind second in the sense that you play the non engine that is flexible going first and second like talents, thrust, droplet. Gives the deck an unbelievable amount of gas and each card is a lot of pressure for the opponent. If you go first on the die roll you still have cards that can help you play past hand traps. I think a lot of people also misunderstand the real role the Evil heros provide which is a self sufficient hero engine that helps the deck play past its most notorious choke point vyon. If vyon is stopped you don't have poly access which cuts off a ton of end board pieces and follow up. The Evil package is great because it still adds a fusion spell to your hand to make sure you end on enough disruption after being hand trapped 1-2 times.

We refuse to read cards cus it's not in the list of the top decks rn but how many times have decks some guy showed up to at a tourney just done better than you'd think because of key things we'd normally overlook and scoff at.
