CGI is now commonplace in the world of movies. Everything from characters and buildings to skies and entire cityscapes can be created with computer-generated imagery. It's done for a variety of reasons - sometimes simply because it looks better, other times because it's cost-effective, and for a number of other reasons too. Without the CGI applied, any movie that utilises it looks very different, but certain movies look totally unrecognisable - and that's what this video is going to take a look at. Sagar Giri ikr, it must be really tough to make it seem real when there is nothing there. I think that's why some actors dont like to be in these big budget movies because its hard to do scenes where you have to pretty much imagine everything is there when it isnt

There was some CGI in Mad Max Fury road. The bit where they are about to leave, and Max comes in riding a bike. He comes in from the left of the screen and stops, that is all he does. Yet it was a stuntman with Tom Hardy's face digitally replacing the stuntman's face.
Its obvious the creatures need to be done with cgi but scenes like beaches and buildings? wtf.
If you have the money for it then why not? No location is going to be perfect and CGI buildings are far cheaper to construct. Plus, you have the advantage of easily blowing them up.
For a director, control of shot compositions is important. There's also the fact that using greenscreens minimizes unexpected interference beyond their control especially in outdoor shoots.

Why not? They're just backgrounds. And I guess it may be the easieat illusion to create. You just act in front of a huge green screen and CGI will take care of the rest.
I don't know why but I sad to learn that batmans armor was CGI
there was a featurette that said for the close ups it was real but during fights partly or all cgi.
I think Zod's armour in Man of Steel was also CGI.
cheapens the experience to know it was made in a computer, least for me. The old Robocops armor was real, and looked just as cool. So it feels cheep to just have had cgi armor, when they could have at least made it practical and enhanced the look with cgi.
+blackfighter99 I get what you mean, but Peter Weller never exactly had much mobility in the Robocop armour. CGI is very much needed especially for a character like Batman who is highly agile and in comparison to what the scenes would have looked like with a real suit, CGI would be smoother and open to more mobility opportunities.
Some scenes actually had Ben in chunks of armor, like after the block and he gives it to Superman.

Some of these directors were just being plain lazy. I mean really not shooting on a real rooftop, not using locations that ACTUALLY exist, not using real dinosaurs or aliens, and no solid armor for Batman?! Come on guys!
I agree, the environments do make since though. If the script calls for a scene on a sunny day, when IRL it's overcast for the next few days, it makes sense to shoot in a studio and add the sky later in post.
You can always watch Star Trek: The Original Series. Plenty of other worlds, aliens, space ship battles and no CGI at all. CGI simply does not existed in 1966. I may recommend episode 18 "Arena" from season 1 for pure vintage delight ;)
The Original Series cheated a lot by having multiple episodes where the "aliens" are just humans that are not even wearing makeup, or straight up having settings that look like real ones like the mafia episode. Look at the The Motion Picture to see what happened when Star Trek received actual movie budget.

They brought Spider- Man to the MCU Within 1 year of Avengers : Age of Ultron, which also had the entire cast from "Civil War" except the Hulk, Thor and Maria Hill. The actors Must have been tired, right. Especially, Chris Evans. If they had, like 1 more year, they could have done it easily. But they released the movie This year. So the fans Won't have to wait for one more year. Thanks to them.

The Lord of The Rings had very little CGI and it looks better than anything produced digitally. How? Props, miniatures and camera tricks. If you have not seen "making of" TLOTR I highly suggest watching it. Even if you hate the movies watching them being made is just amazing.
Even the random bits of armor were all meticulously done with each piece....

There were some minor flaws only when the characters talk. Animating, motion capturing mouth movement is still not perfect yet. I mean we came along way from Jeff Bridges' Young Flynn and Clu in Tron Legacy. But you must admit Grand Moff Tarkin is menacing in Rogue One pretty much alive and well!

The original Godzilla was a normal sized guy in a rubber suit stampeding a model of Tokyo. They had to rebuild the model every time they messed up. This is a true fact.

I think all of the mcu movies are all made of CGI and VFX because the stunts and the power effects of the movie are litteraly cool and AWESOME.
That's why nolan is the greatest director right now, he uses less CGI than any other director.

You'll never see a Nolan movie on a list like this. He avoids CGI and uses it only when absolutely necessary. And it really shows. His films look incredibly more real than any of these.

Both of you are utterly, and ridiculously wrong. The Fanservice Awakens contrary to it's proud marketing of reling on practical effects, only used them as a gimmick for stuff like Cantina scene 2.0, and everythingelse was CGI, in fact Jar Jar Abrahms used more CGI, than Lucas did for the *entire PT combined*. Also contrary to "popular belief", TPM alone used more practical effects than the ENTIRE Original Trilogy combined, and AOTC and ROTS each used more practical effect than the one before them. Which effectively means that the number of practical effects in either one PT movie is way over 3 times the amount used for a any one of OT films. And yes there was lots of CGI as well, but not nearly the amount so-called critically acclaimed films like Winter Soldier has, and esspecially not what they're accused of having.
