How to update Sigma E-Mount lenses in 2020

After finding no good video on here that explains the process, I decided to make my own. You don't need anything fancy, just a USB cord and computer with internet access. Here is the link to the Sigma lens firmware page, to save you time:

When you go here, find your lens and click over on the right side, where it says "Details". Scroll down to find the E-Mount section and there are the download links for Windows and Mac, take your pick.

For some reason, my A73 with the 24-70 Art doesn’t go past the Updating The Lens phase, and when I tried turning off then removing battery, it was on the same firmware as before (after checking the version). I wonder what the issue is? Thank you in advance!

Hey mate, do you have an idea if the process is similar for Canon EF's mount? I'm about to buy the Sigma Art 24-35 f2 for my Eos R6 and just googling this ahead of time seems a bit nightmarish.
Wish I could give you an answer or even an educated guess, but I have only dealt with Sony cameras. I haven't the slightest clue on how any other manufacturer works, sorry.
Iv been having focus issues in the 105 1.4 and my A1, blurry photos even though focus locked, judt checked my lens and its on v01, I see there is a v02 out in going try this i was about get rid of the lens

I have an a6400, so maybe a firmware update on the camera? Not sure.
When I connect a6600 to PC I can see it's charging so I know it's connected, bit firmware update software just won't move from the first step. Camera is on mass storage, card is out..sigma 16mm mounted, e-mount firmware downloaded.PC doesn't react to camera at all.
Any guidance??

Hi - ive asked about this on a fb group and people keep sending me this video - wondering if it's changed since you made this video because there is no option to download the firmware- only to download the sigma optimization pro - so have they changed it so you do need a doc now? Or is there still a way to do it without? Thanks
They've changed the website quite a bit.

Make sure it's the right version for Windows and your specific lens.

Having an issue finding where to see or download the firmware for the Sigma Sport 150-600mm 1:5-6:3 DG DN for Sony E mount. It's like E mount doesn't exist. There has to be a software upgrade. Can you help?
Using Sony A73 and Sony A7R3A (both have current firmware).

hi, i was updating the firmware of my sigma lens on an alpha 6400 but i can't go on, i don't know if the problem is bc my lens is vers1 and on a site i can find only the latest ver3. need help plsssss
ps. my lens is a sigma 30mm 1.4 DN e-mount
My Sigma lens upgrade download was a plf file that was put on the SD card - then the instructions were to do a firmware upgrade on the camera lens - which doesnt exist on a AR7 ii.
Won't work with Mac/Catalina 10.14 to 10.15+ according to the Sigma website. And this has been my experience as well. Sent a message to Sigma to see what to do.
I'm a windows user, so I know nothing of those Mac struggles.
It's a headache, i was trying for a while until i noticed i have 10.15

Hi mate, could share which lens you have updated for reference. Is it the Sigma 30mm? (Just asking because I cannot find any e-mount update for my Sigma 16mm and 56mm... Seems there is only update available for the 30mm model on the website)
I've got the 50 and 24-70. A lot of lenses don't have updates.

i keep on getting an error on my mac saying that it couldnt detect the camera, even tho on the screen my camera says its connected via mass storage

quick question. I just bought the Sigma 100-400 lens for my Sony A7III. I went to the Sigma website to grab the files I need, and I see this. Did you see the following on their page before? Not sure what the deal is. Do you?
Please check the version from camera menu.
If the lens version is firmware Ver.01 it cannot be updated by the end-user via the camera. Therefore, SIGMA will update the lens firmware free of charge.

Has anyone tried to update their firmware recently? The sigma-global website is not responding each time I click the button to download a firmware update. Any clues?
This is PURE speculation, but I think that with the new Sony A1 release, they are likely to revamp all their lens firmware to be compatible. The A1 has 30 fps autofocus with native Sony lenses but only 15 with 3rd party ones like Sigma. So my bet is Sigma is trying to do everything in their power to get their lenses to get as close to that 30fps autofocus. If they don't get close to that number, there's a lot of people, including myself, that will only buy Sony lenses that are 100% compatible in every way.

Hey not sure if they changed the site, but there is no option for E-Mount for the 16mm 1.4 DC DN firmware update. Anyone got a link to it?
I'm assuming if there is no link, there is no upgrade for it. I just checked and they only have L mount and Canon EF links for 16mm.
So is e-mount only 0.1 firmware?

FYI for everyone else. Some DC DN lenses don't have an option to update for Sony. I have a 56mm 1.4 DC DN and the update is only available for Sigma Fp, Leica, Panasonic L mount and Canon.
Waiting on Sigma to get back to me about this.

Man, same for the 105mm macro or the 100-400mm that definitly need a firmware update. I'm really concerned about the lack of support for the E-mount lenses. Should we create somekind a petition to wake them up or something ?

A visual tutorial would’ve been super helpful. Site says before updating I need to make sure I have the latest version of Sigma optimization Pro but then no other download links.

dang I really wish i found this earlier. I litterally bought the dock and was spending time trying to figure out why it doesnt fit. Out a little money, just can cry about it I guess lol.

The Aston Stealth, I love everything about it, but finding a mount for it is tricky.

I don't know, honestly. It's easy to do, so try and find out. I have an a6400 so mine is much newer, but technically they should both update.

a shame, that Sigma didn't support their products, like all others do! in my case, i got just a "S0160110.plf"- file (MAC), which is not supported by OSX. The installation- guide on their site didn't work with my Alpha 7Riii, 'cause there is no update- option in the menue. sucks really!
I wish you could have done an on-screen video of the steps - I still don't understand how you get the Sigma firmware update into the camera.

@@gridsquare The tutorial on Sigma's website doesn't even show a Sony menu - looks like it must be either Nikon or Canon. And it tells you to download the firmware to your computer, load it onto an SD card, insert the SD card into the camera, then go through the menus to update the firmware. But like I said, the menus don't match. Check it out before you make your next video.
@@jamesmeyer1325 if you don't see a sony menu, there isn't an update for it. Look through the different lenses and you'll see many don't have e or l mount. Some are only Canon or Nikon and a few are only sigma.

I went to the Sigma website and you can only download a plf file (not exe) and the instructions say to navigate to "update firmware" within the a7iii menu, but this option does not exist. I am trying to update the 100-400 on the a7iii.

After the lens has been updated to Ver.02 by SIGMA, the user can then update all future lens firmware via the camera.

I bought the actual dock for the lens but it’s not reading the lens so I guess I have to call sigma and see if they can anything about it

Yeah there's a bunch that have no updates.
I followed this process and got the message " The update is not available for your lens. The update process will be aborted". Thoughts?
Then there is no update for your lens. Not a big surprise, most of their lenses don't have updates or they ship with the latest firmware. Even with Sony, I just got a 24-70GMaster the other day, their firmware hasn't updated since 2017. No need to be alarmed.

It's there, still. Tell you what, I've got a new 24-70mm Sigma lens coming in the mail tomorrow...I'll re-make this video and actually share my computer screen to walk through the process more thoroughly. Probably could have done that the first time, but I forget that the Sigma website isn't exactly the easiest to find firmware.

When I look up the lens it only gives me a .plf file, no exe at all, and the only walkthrough they give is for sigma cameras
Same experience here 6-13-21 - Sigma 100-400mm f5-6.3 DG DN OS .... no exe , no sony emount firmware update instructions, just a .plf file that sits on a newly formatted sd and does nothing

@@daniel_b_living6133 Tech support at Sigma said the reason there's no link available for the Sony Emount version (i inquired about the Sigma 100-400) is that there is no firmware upgrade necessary/available
@@ZenLikeOrbitz Yes I spoke with them as well. Good to know. I was thoroughly impressed at how easy it was to speak to a tech there without dealing with a single automated bot. Kudos to Sigma for their customer service.

@@JustSenix Yeah, you have to send the lens in for Sigma to update ver .02 for you and after you can update it on your own.
Honestly... I still don't get it. I don't even know what program you're talking about to open the downloaded file from Sigma... so I'm definitely missing something. Sigh... Fuck it. I give up.

@@antoniodomingo5404 You won't find one because they have not released an update for Sony E-mount for that model. Maybe it doesn't need one for Sony, but the other two did? You can email Sigma customer support and ask them, but at least you know why you can't find it.
