I just finished building the connecting link kit watching your fabulous video. I plugged in the cord, tapped the start pad, and lo and behold to my amazement, everything worked, albeit slowly. A more powerful motor is a must! Many thanks to you, Martin, because without your video I would never have accomplished this project. I have a video of the Runs working but don't know how to attach it here. Once again, thanks, Martin.
Jerry Seiff
Hey Jerry, that’s absolutely amazing and I’m delighted it’s working 😃
You are more than welcome and I’m just delighted I was able to help you in any way and you could always send the video of it working to my email address in my channel’s description 😊
Great job and video.
For me the speed's okay. For sure the lift takes a lot of time, but all in all with the blue lights it's an awesome run.
Maybe you'll find a slighty longer belt for the city.
Hey, thank you so much for that, it’s much appreciated 😊
That’s fair enough, everyone’s preference is different and yeah that blue light is really awesome.
A longer belt would unfortunately slow down the spaceport even more, but I’ll see if I can find a bit more powerful motor 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven let me know if you found a faster motor ! :)
I will and I have actually 😃 I’ll share a video tomorrow 😊
perfectooo!
An alternative approach would be to use a dc -dc boost converter to increase the 5v from the USB supply to the required level for the 12v motor. The output of the boost converter can be set to achieve the required speed. Just having a play with a test set up on my work bench to check current values etc but everything seems Ok. Whist this approach needs a little bit of electronics know how, it is actually very simple. Happy to supply more details if interested. Love your videos Martin, keep up the good work. Interested in how far your videos reach.... Well I am a million miles away in one of the remotest parts of the world. The Isle of Skye.🤣
Hey Jefferson, haha yeah a million miles away 🤣 Me and my wife have been to Skye for a holiday and it’s absolutely beautiful there, apart from being over packed with tourists of course, including ourselves at that time 😅
Oh man that does sound a bit different and why not try and explain it, maybe some other people here will find it handy and useful 😊
And thank you so much for that, I’m delighted you’re enjoying my videos 😊
I love the lights, its way brighter than what I was expecting, but that not my complaining on that LOL. It does slow down on the gears from night city other times it just stops (pause) then it goes again, I been rewaxing the gears mainly on the night city, but it could possibly be where u said part of the wood gear is rubbing against the moving gear. Im exciting that its done, going to add the marbles next. Thank you once again for the fun tutorials for the link, night city and spaceport... Now I have to decide what to do next LOL 🙂
Hey Shawn, I do agree that the lights do look bright enough and cool 😎
That’s a bit of a shame that it doesn’t run perfectly, hopefully you manage to sort it out so it runs a bit better 🤞
And you are more than welcome, I’m really glad you enjoyed my videos 😊
And if you’re looking for a new project, ROKR has recently release their electric ship, and that looks epic 😃 If you fancies any other model from them, if you used my affiliate link here then that would be greatly appreciated 😊 shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1707320&u=4069976&m=106192&urllink=&afftrack=
I purchased the following motor on amazon. I haven't received it yet and I imagine I will have to do a lot of things before it will work for me:
Greartisan DC 12V 100RPM Gear Motor High Torque Electric Micro Speed Reduction Geared Motor Centric Output Shaft 37mm Diameter Gearbox
Hey Mark, I’m glad you got it from Amazon as you can return it no problem. So I have finished my modifications with a new motor installation + speed controller and a switch and I’ll release the video tomorrow 😊
And I can tell you that 100 RPM is too slow, I tested it out myself, even with a 200 I felt that the desired speed for myself personally was nearly there, but not quite. So I got a high torque 12V 400RPM which is just amazing, but I don’t use all 400 RPM of course because of the speed controller so it doesn’t go overboard if plugged in without the controller.
I'm still waiting for my link pack to arrive which will probably be about a month so in the meantime where can a faster motor be purchased?
No way, surely it can’t take that long?? 😬
So I had to modify my link pack a bit to fit the new faster and more powerful motor and I’ve got a video out for it, you can have a look here: th-cam.com/video/ekYurKS_NXA/w-d-xo.html and I’ve got USA and UK Amazon links in that video description and also any other parts I used 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Appreciate the reply, I actually found the video with several different motors you tried. Yes, my kit is coming from China, I ordered it on the 17th and it just shipped. Thank you for the helpful videos you provide.
That’s great and I hope you find it helpful 😊
Oh my, yeah that will take a wee while to arrive. Amazon would have been way faster, if they have it of course.
But anyways I hope you enjoy the assembly once it arrives 👌
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven I received my addon kit today. Having both kit's would you recommend building the first one different knowing you will be adding the second one to it or just build it complete then do the removal of parts and add the second kit.
That’s excellent 👌
The only bit I wouldn’t install is the motor on Spaceport.
I would gather all the necessary pieces for the motors housing, but I wouldn’t actually build it as when you build the connection kit, you will have to swap out some of the motor housing pieces.
Does that make sense?
Congratulations Martin for getting everything working!!
I am building spaceport now and I do have night city and the link kit already. I will be upgrading the motor as well.
Good job.
Hey Alan, thank you so much, I’m delighted it’s all working 😊
That’s excellent and I hope you’re enjoying the spaceport build so far and hopefully everything goes well with both of the marble runs 🤞
And that is definitely a good idea since it’s just too weak.
Thanks again 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHavenperhaps you could provide details of the upgraded motor once you’ve got it all working.
Hey Shane, I will indeed, I’ll post a video 😊
The final is the answer. One side alive, the other is a bit asleep. The marble travel should be equally active throughout the link. Speeding it up is a bandage, but the link design is flawed.
Hey Marion, I actually agree with you here. Spaceport side is mush more entertaining and faster than night city.
Very awesome video!
Planning to get one for my new apartment. By the way, would you mind sharing the dimensions when it is combined?
Hey, thank you so much, I’m really glad you enjoyed it 😊
I’ll give it a measure when I’m home and I’ll let you know.
I noticed there are sections where the sound goes away, is intentional or an error in the audio?
Unfortunately I somehow managed to select a copyrighted background music and I used TH-cam editor to remove it, but it also removed the actual talking, and when I tried to reverse it, it said it was successful, but it clearly wasn’t.
Sorry about that, my error.
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven No problem, I can still see what you are doing.
Thank you and I hope it’s any use without the talking.
This will come in helpful with my kit, thank you Martin 🙂
Ah that’s amazing and you’re more than welcome, I hope you’ll manage to assemble it with ease and see it go 👌
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Thank you
This is fantastic 👏
Thank you very much, I’m really glad you like it 😃🤩
👏👏👏
Thank you thank you 😁
Hi Martin, Please check to see if you installed the 2 parts D5 underneath A1, the motor assembly board. That should keep the motor board from twisting when screwed down.
Hey Gerald, thanks for your comment and I’ll have a look 😊
Hey again Gerald, I can confirm that you are correct, I did somehow manage to miss adding the 2 D5 rings, but thankfully it doesn’t affect the kit and its performance.
And thank you very much for spotting that 👌
I wrote to the company about the problem with the motor when two units are connected. They responded very quickly and told me that they would send me a more powerful one. I will let you know if I receive a replacement.
Regards.
Hey, that’s brilliant and good on you. I would love to know what sort of replacement motor are they sending.
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven I just received the new motor from the company in China as promised. I haven't tried it yet, and the exterior looks the same as the one that came in the kit. As soon as I can, I'll try it and let you know how it goes. I should add that at the same time I wrote in the comments of the product sold on Amazon asking if buyers had any problems with the power of the motor. No customer responded, but Robotime did, saying that from now on a new, more powerful motor was being added and if anyone needed it, they just had to ask for it for free.
Ha that’s excellent, good on Robotime, they obviously listen to customers and act which is amazing. And fingers crossed that new motor is faster and more powerful 🤞
Thank you for the update.
Hi,
Thank you for the video.
I just hacked in a powerful 90 rpm worm gear motor.
Everything now works better and faster. Thanks for the suggestion.
Alan
Hey Alan, you are more than welcome and that’s excellent, chuffed for you 👌
I’ve got a 12v, 400 RPM high torque motor on stand by to test out, of course with a speed controller so it doesn’t go overboard 😅
Hi Alan, where about did you source the motor? I am llooking for one myself.. Any help would be apprecaited
You can find a tone of these type of motors on Amazon 😊 Just type in ‘high torque 9 or 12v motor’ and it will give you lots of options of their RPM’s.
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven Thank you! Do you by any chance have a link to one that would work in regards to the dimensions and fitting on the existing link pack kit without muhc modification?
No problem at all.
And no unfortunately I don’t have the one similar size. I did find one like it, but slightly bigger, but it was far too slow so I had to ditch that idea.
I think the only way is to modify the existing motor box or just buy or create one yourself 😊
I finished finished Night City, there are still some areas that the marbles get stuck but I already went through it many attempts to fix and of course breaking a few fragile pieces but luckily fixable, but still works none the less, Im excited to get started on the link pack, just from the two I like Spaceport due to not having so many fragile pieces, Nightcity is simple design but very fragile in ways of putting it together.
Hey Shawn,
I’m glad you’ve completed the Night City but yes I agree that it’s a bit of a pain compared to Spaceport, but as you say at least it works 😊
You’re gonna enjoy the connection kit since it’s very straightforward and easy, but of course the motor is too weak to run both runs at good speed, but it’s fixable 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven I'm almost completed with it, looking cool, I dont know if its on my end, but I lost some of your audio on a good portion of the tutorial, alot of it I'm going by visual
Ah excellent, nearly there then 😃 Oh no, I’m not sure if there was any missing audio, I hope not 😬
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven On my end, the audio starts to cut around 1:25:46,
Ah that’s great, thank you for the timestamp, I’ll have a look after work 😊
Thanks for the awesome video and also love your new video with the more powerful motor. Just wondering what happens to the sound between 1:24:24 and 1:47:38? I am not hearing anything.
You’re more than welcome, I’m delighted you enjoyed them both 😃
Yeah to be honest I am not too sure what happened there.
At first when I uploaded it, I somehow managed to use a copyrighted background beat, so I tried to replace it using TH-cam tools, but then at the end decided to just leave it, and I wonder because I messed around with trying to replace it that it just completely removed the talking and the beat at that part 🤔
Sorry about that.
Can you suggest specs for more powerful motor?
So I’ve run a wee test already with a high RPM motor and that is no use. So what we need is a high torque and low RPM motor instead. I’d say possibly at around 100-200 RPM mark with high torque.
Just because we need something that can move all that resistance that the whole kit gives because just speed alone and low torque can’t do it.
I’d also add that a speed controller would be very handy 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHaven my motor stopped functioning and I noticed that some people are saying to get a more torquey motor. I was just wondering if you purchased one and if so from where? I won't contact ROKR for the same thing if it doesn't have enough torque. tks
No yeah there’s no point getting the same one from ROKR as it’s only 4.5V and the torque is too low.
I am still looking around and so far I’m aiming for something between 9-12v with around 200 RPM + high torque.
But don’t take my word for it just yet as I haven’t tried it out yet.
Funny guy lol Great job it looks amazing but very slow. Let us know if you find a faster motor
Haha 😂
Thank you very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed it and yes I agree that the motor is a bit on the slow side but I am planning on upgrading it sometime and I’ll post it once I’ve figured out what to do 😊
That would be great, I can’t wait…
👌
I have just finished mine and the motor is barely strong enough to turn. I am unsure what to do. What size motor will you use?
Hey Danny, yeah the motor is super weak and ROKR should have addressed that before releasing it to be honest as it feels a bit like the kit isn’t complete.
And I’m not 100% sure what motor I will be using, but I will update everyone once I have an answer 😊
My blue lights don’t come on until I press the button. A long press turns all off (motor and lights)
Alan
They should come on on dimmed setting once the usb is plugged in, then press once for the motor to also come on and if you press the button again, the lights should come on on full blast and be still and not dim 😊
Good video but the sound keeps cutting out particularly at the beginning
@@oldgeezergaming5602 Hey. Thank you very much for that.
And I’m very sorry about the sound, I believe it’s due to me somehow picking a copyrighted background song and I tried to remove it on YT studio and then cancelled the process and I believe that still removed a couple of voice parts.
Sorry about that.
Hi, I found the motor on TEMU for about $8.00. Also available on eBay.
Alan
That’s excellent Alan. I got one from Amazon for about the same price 😊
Hello. congrats. Do you have a pic and the specs of the motor?
I’ll personally have a video out tomorrow on what I use and how I customise it 😊
@@MartinsAssemblyHavengood!! Just finished the full set.... and it's soo slow! Looking forward to your vid.
Yeah it is really slow. And that’s awesome, just keep an eye out for it 😊
Mine don’t work that way. What results are others getting?
When you push the button twice, does the light not come on fully and still?
Yes
Ah that’s good then.
Is there something that doesn’t work the way that it should?
I think mine is normal operation and yours is the anomaly?
It’s possible but I don’t think so as too many people are finding it far too weak or slow etc
I think mine is normal and yours is the anomaly?
It’s possible, but too many people are having g same issues with it.
