Teighlour Swyftte lol tbh for about 5 minutes I liked the body changes but now that I bought one and been driving it for a week, I'm missing my 2017 more and more, and liking the '17 less and less. Oh if only I could have my '15 back. ☹️ This car just feels like a family car trying to look like a sports car.
I rented an Altima for 2 weeks and I completely agree with those 3 categories that you mention, where the Altima excels. And the cargo area is plentiful makes it a perfect rental car for families. But I would consider something else for my daily use, not because Altima is not a good car in fact it is, but for its lack of fun to drive and CVT.
Paul if you want a fun to drive midsize that sacrifices comfort and interior size, then get the Mazda6. I'll choose the Malibu or Accord over both, though.
I have a 2016 2.5L S model, which has no difference to the 2017, and it is awesome. The review is on point with both the positive and the negatives. I love the 39mpg marker. It is very comfortable (although my mother disagree) and drives smoothly on the road. If you want a decent car with decent features, no bells or whistle or other needless features, this is the car to go.
I bought the SR midnight edition about 1 month ago .. I actually like the altima it's really good on gas and it's sporty looking ... adding tint makes a difference.... I just don't understand why so many people complain about the CVT 🤷🏿♂️
Agree with you. Nissan's CVT id one of the best out there, if not THE best, the latest version mimics automatic transmission shifts quite well, and most important it provides THE best fuel economy in the category.
Yea I agree with both of you, my parents use to own a Ford Edge, and almost at the end of our lease the trasmission was hard to switch, and the battery died. Now we have a Nissan Murano and a Nissan Sentra on lease, and we love them
Now I’m a car enthusiast, so I don’t like any automatics, like you can ask me, do you like lambos, and I’m gonna say no because they cost too much for its power. Like I can buy a used Toyota Supra, modify it to the points it’s faster than the lambo, and it will still be cheaper!
I bought a sport car thinking that I'll look cool , it turns out I was so wrong , I rather have a car no one cares about , than have a car that is a head turner , plus altima comfort and fuel saving is so needed even tho I thought i could live without them in my fancy sport car , this is my next car altima :)
Mo Lo i have a 2004 chevy suburan with a vortech 8.1 496 big block only cost me 5k usd 4years i put goodyear wrangler tires and a pioneer double din dvd headunit
Before I wrecked my Sentra our family is Nissan also my mom has maxima older brother has a Versa and younger brother had a Sentra at the time now has an Altima and I’m left out with my Dodge 😅
I feel like it’s a car for a everyday people going to work, store, vacations it has everything you need definitely not Mercedes or anything but it’s good
This is the perfect family sedan. KBB doesn't make it sound at all exciting, but the SR trimline is the one to get if you want something a little sexier.
I just purchased a silver 2017 Altima SV; traded my 2015 Altima S (w/Special Edition pkg) in last week. Noticed differences is the '17 feels slightly smaller both inside and out. Idk if it's because my '15 had the Special Edition package or what but I find my '15 was way more comfortable. I find the '17 seats to be a bit more firmer. I also notice my '15 I was averaging 410 miles (mostly hwy driving) per tank. Where (so far) the '17 I'm getting around 370 miles. So honestly I really liked my 2015 better. I only traded it (with a little over 8,900 miles on it) because I was looking to refinance but learned with all the rebates and stuff, my notes would come out cheaper with the 2017's. I guess you really do get what you pay for, huh? Lol
jtothada06 not as behind the times Toyota is did you know none of the Toyota Corolla have blind spot no trim. bad since it’s been around since at least 2012 talking blind spot
Still believe the Altima is a great car overall (and pretty stylish IMO), however the infotainment system/layout is outdated and bordering the ridiculous
The best looking Altima was the 2005 & 2006 model.. I had a 2005 Altima and I prefer it over the newer ones (from 2007-present). They look and feel more solid inside & just simply look better imo. My friend had a 2014 Altima & it felt and looked cheap
They are sufficiently efficient and fairly stylish but to say a future classic is taking it a but far. There are simply too many around and nothing particularly unique about it.
Hey Zach, can you comment on the Emergency braking? I have heard some of the newer Safety Systems such as Emergency braking can be rather obtrusive. How did this one do you your testing? I had the SV model as a rental while my Nissan was getting worked on and the Blind Spot Monitoring was a nice to have feature and saved my bacon on at least a couple of occasions. :)
Hi Victor, Zach says the Nissan system isn't nearly as intrusive as some competitive systems, and specifically called out Honda as having one of the most overanxious pre-collision braking programs.
My mom has the 2017 Sr sport the car is blue with chrome trim and the interior is a dark gray I love the car is it so easy to drive I love everything about the car and I love how it has paddle shifters for the sport mode
Quick question - I recently bought a 2016 Altima (3k miles) on it and it returns only 19 to 21 mpg with a mix of highway and city driving (80% city). Is this normal? I reached to my local dealers and they told me it is normal !
Everyone complaining about this car, I don't get it, runs like a hot knife through butter and a total luxury to drive. Maybe it's because I drove an 06 hyundai clunker for the past 6 years idk
I just picked up one reading the reviews. Got the midnight addition and so far I love how it handles around curves. I also have a Toyota Camry. Just called Honda to see if they can do 9k under the MSRP and I will get the accord if I like it when I go Monday to check it out. Got Nissan for 8.5k below MSRP..
I'm very disappointed with my 2009 altima. At 68000 km, my roof and its side panels, the hood and the trunk paints are all peeling off and appear to have too much scratches. I even took the 5 year paint warranty. After the warranty, it started to peel. I expected the paint to just fade and not peel. Wow! For sure this is a defect.
I’m driving 2017 altima SV from almost a year now. This car is not for enthusiastic ppl. It’s practical for daily driving. No special appeal in interior and average exterior but this car is peace of mind with great gas mileage and lower maintenance cost. It cruise along very nicely. But i beliveve its kind of boring from inside and nissan should give it a facelift
Ever see cars listed so cheap you literally avoid it like the plague? Because I just saw multiple low mile SL Altimas from the same year as this review already around the late teens... Are they on sale right now? Or are there plagued with catastrophic powertrain/quality issues already?
Juan Cabrera out of those 2 cars, I would get the Sonata. Nissans quality has gone down over the years, so your better off buying the Hyundai. If it was my money, I would get a Camry because they have the smoothest ride in the class and they are more reliable. You pay a bit more for a Camry, but it's worth it.
Just rented one... it is nice looking.... but it turns like crap. Something odd about the drivers side windshield panel... its too think. Maybe that's why they have that blind spot sensor... idk
I do not think it is a fad. I own a vehicle with a 2.0 turbo for now and it is quicker than any v6 vehicle i have ever owned ( and there have been several).
Altima used to be sportiest choice, no longer. Nissans sedan lineup is confusing. I don't see much reason to get an Altima over a Sentra unless you often carry 3 in back. Maxima hasn't really made sense since the G35.
mfmf100 The Nissan Maxima has way too much horsepower now. If you're looking for a premium sports sedan from Nissan then the Infiniti Q50 is the best choice indeed. Nissan needs to make the Maxima a cushy, soft riding large sedan more like the Toyota Avalon and Ford Taurus. Who are they fooling with that "4DSC" (4 door sports car) sticker on the window? I would take the Sentra over the Altima too since the quality has improved drastically recently. The Altima used to really stand out against the competition from 2002 - 2012. Now every midsize sedan has gone into full style mode including the Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Malibu.
mfmf100 my bff has a 2016 Sentra S. Drove it myself alone to the store once. Don't know if it's because I got so use to the size of my Altima or what but with the Sentra I felt like I was driving a clown car 😂 After a day driving her car I was happy to get back in my Alti! But yeah I can see your point though. Not to mention all over them have the same design; difference is just size.
Nissan's new design language is hideous! The previous generation Maxima looked so much better! The previous Murano looked better also. The 2016 Nissan Altima doesn't look as good as the 2013 - 2015 model. Hopefully the next generation Nissan models will have sharper, cleaner looking designs. Maybe Nissan will ditch continuous variable transmission too, but I don't expect much hope for that. I would choose either a Mazda 6 Grand Touring or Ford Fusion Titanium over a new Nissan Altima 2.5 SL.
I actually think the 2016/2017 Altima looks way better than the 2013-2015 models. The tailights, headlights and grille on the new model looks more premium. I should note, I also just bought a new Altima
Maybe no airbags went off because there wasn't a front end collision. The airbags will not deploy in most cases unless there is a strong front end impact. I hope your friend was at least wearing their seatbelt.
I am not regurgitating traditional wisdom about Japanese vs American automotive reliability because cars from all walks of life are on average more reliable than their equivalent from the turn of the century. However there are some notable exceptions chiefly Nissan CVTs; not all CVTs are bad however the one in current gen Altimas and Sentras are notorious for their pre 100000 mile tranny replacement
I know. Like electronic windows haven't been standard in forever? Do they even make roll down windows anymore? Cruise control, where, probably 90% of ppl don't even use it anyway.
No USB, cruise control, or even backup camera, whaaaa! I understand the base model has the least features, but come the fuck on.. Even my shitty junker from 95, which is also a base model has cruise control.
Ulysses Roman it (base trim) has it. It's just the one in this review it the version where it automatically adjust the speed and breaks if it detects a vehicle so many x feet in front of it. If I recall just the SL offers it. But the base, S, SR, and SV have just plain straightforward cruise control.
I just don't get it. Why people call it CVT TRANSMISSION? The "T" in CVT is transmission already! You don't call it contiously variable transmission transmission!!! Just call it simply CVT or CV transmission or CVT automatic not CVT transmission!
cheap, plastic, and over all dated feeling. much better options out there with the Malibu, Accord, and Mazda 6. the CVT is also a huge turn off. i do like the V6 though.
I have 2014 Altima SL fully loaded with every option available, it was nice for 2014; but every year I pay attention to the next model to see what's new, and to be honest I'm kinda disappointed with Nissan. Obviously I can see their focus is more on a basic car to drive around everyday, it's not really that smooth to drive, I feel almost all the bumps and potholes. Sad to say I will not purchase anymore Nissans, for the simple lack of innovation and comfort.
am I the only one that likes how this car looks? it looks better than the last altima.
Yes,you are!
Teighlour Swyftte lol tbh for about 5 minutes I liked the body changes but now that I bought one and been driving it for a week, I'm missing my 2017 more and more, and liking the '17 less and less. Guys this will impress you tho, search up 2019 Nissan Altima and it improved a lot
Some people are just looking for space, comfort and fuel savings, that's what pretty much defines this Altima
I rented an Altima for 2 weeks and I completely agree with those 3 categories that you mention, where the Altima excels. And the cargo area is plentiful makes it a perfect rental car for families.

Diwa Galvez If I have to choose between the two I would go for Malibu as it will have 9 speed auto transmission vs Accord's CVT.
Paul Yuen Agreed. The Malibu is such an underrated car.
😊
Man KBB really stepped its reviews up over the years.
philtrich agreed. Much better than others.
agreed, good review
I rented an Altima for three days to use on our family vacation. I let my wife drive it most of the time, now she wants one.
Donald Hollums yup, went car shopping past Saturday, with choices of Fusion, Impala, Malibu, Mazda6 ONLY... and the old gal decided a freaking Altima.
bad mistake my friend woman want everything hahaha
XXDJOZXX now that's funny right there!!
Right I rented a 2017 Ford fusion I didn't want to give it up
@@moe6518 old gal?

Nissan are low cost to own, reliable, last forever, and are good at just being a car.
TheillogicalParadox lol have you seen the early cvt failure on these models specifically??
krispykareem Yeah! The early models was a disaster but I don’t think these 2016 and ups aren’t an issue.
Lol these things are junk

Iketani Koichiro would still lose to the tesla roadster lol
Does the SR version handle better than the base altima? as the handling and the turning radius on my 2014 2.5 s is ridiculously bad
I bought a sport car thinking that I'll look cool , it turns out I was so wrong , I rather have a car no one cares about , than have a car that is a head turner , plus altima comfort and fuel saving is so needed even tho I thought i could live without them in my fancy sport car , this is my next car altima :)

My nissan Altima is my baby💛it's gorgeous and awesomely fast

Joshua Johnson finally someone says what I have been saying all this time. Nissan Altimas can corner and speed like a hot knife through butter.
@@polkod and that butter is your CVT belt .....🤣
@@areyoukitten7688 lol true. My 2016 Altima was fun to drive but around 85000 km that cvt was acting up. That car is gone now.

Is all Nissan nowadays push button start? Do they still have the key or what?
Are they still having cvt issues? Have they fix them? Nice car 🚗

Ulysses Roman it (base trim) has it. It's just the one in this review it the version where it automatically adjust the speed and breaks if it detects a vehicle so many x feet in front of it. If I recall just the SL offers it. But the base, S, SR, and SV have just plain straightforward cruise control.
Very reliable 🚗!!!
♡♡♡
vira para o Brasil?
I just don't get it. Why people call it CVT TRANSMISSION? The "T" in CVT is transmission already! You don't call it contiously variable transmission transmission!!! Just call it simply CVT or CV transmission or CVT automatic not CVT transmission!
cheap, plastic, and over all dated feeling. much better options out there with the Malibu, Accord, and Mazda 6. the CVT is also a huge turn off. i do like the V6 though.
justin bouche I don't see cheap plastic at all. All I can see is leather stitching and soft touch all over the cabin
1. stitched injection mold is not leather
2. tan colored plastic is not soft touch
3. fake fo leather is not real leather
honda still has CVT but i like honda way better
Again with that bottle ?!!!!
the accord is 278 hp with its 3.5 v6 so the accord is the most powerful v6 sedan aside from the fusion sport
Luke Hoisington Yep my car ;)
He said the Altima was more powerful than every turbo 4 not that is was the most powerful v6
Major CVT transmission problems
Old ones, yes
This car gets the gas mileage of an 8 cylinder
🙄
@@DrOcKa20 lol I average 32 in mine
Aww its not a 3.5
I have 2014 Altima SL fully loaded with every option available, it was nice for 2014; but every year I pay attention to the next model to see what's new, and to be honest I'm kinda disappointed with Nissan. Obviously I can see their focus is more on a basic car to drive around everyday, it's not really that smooth to drive, I feel almost all the bumps and potholes. Sad to say I will not purchase anymore Nissans, for the simple lack of innovation and comfort.
