Some things to keep in mind - Sentry mode when at home it’s useless. Please do the test with no sentry mode. Sentry mode is using 1% battery every 3 hours. You warmed up the car using 2% of the battery, without plugging it, so it’s clear something it’s wrong in your test.
Tbh if you live in a good neighborhood and wont be going anywhere dangerous there is no real need for sentry mode. I mean you can always turn it on when ever you want so it doesn’t really matter anyway
Thank you so much for this review, my wife is picking up her M3 next month and since we live in NE of USA 🇺🇸 we get long cold winters which will cause charging issues and it’s nice to see the power losses in extreme temperatures. Thank you
Thanks for the videos. I’m glad I could find another model 3 owner in Calgary who has reviews of the car. Picked up my 2022 Model 3 Long Range 2 weeks ago and I’m loving it 😊.
quick question, doesn't tesla need to precondition the battery in the cold? how is it possible u were able to drive right away while not plugged, does this mean the 10% it lost overnight was spent on preheating the battery?. Thanks
Is the battery automatically kept warm at night? Normally, such low temperatures have a very destructive effect on batteries. I would be interested if you leave the Tesla outside for a week without charging it. Does he continue to lose energy every night and is empty after 9 days?
Battery level does not equal range. Unless the motors are the only thing drawing current. If people would stop thinking like that, they wouldn't be so confused or disappointed.
Can you describe can the car warm itself after sitting unplugged for 8 hours at work, for example at -30? And not to a reasonable 20c, but for what my wife would heat it to…25c?
Ok, so add 16 miles, still not even touching 200 miles… and -21 is cold, but I’ve unfortunately been in colder, and had to drive cross country. I know it’s possible to do in a Tesla, but possible doesn’t mean pleasant. It does have a cool app tho.
I don't get it. "What a beautiful day." Phone clock is 06:16 AM. It's not day. It should be very early in the morning. In fact your phone weather app right before said that sunrise will be 07:34 AM. So it shouldn't even be so bright outside. How is this possible?
With your experience with a Tesla, do you advice to get it even in this extreme temperature. I live in Saskatchewan and boy does it get super cold here😅
My son had an e Stang. The ABC's of EV's got old real quick. Always Be Charging. Driving with mitts and toque and still cold in the car. Plugged in at work in the winter barely maintained the battery. From SASK. Ever so happy to unload it, not happy with the massive depreciation in a year and a half.
Fuuny test - the guy tested in fact Sentry mode battery consumption not cold. For just the cold I am estimating no more than 2% for 24h being a very cold day (under -20 deg Celsius).
Great video. Yours is the first I've seen showing the Tesla not charging overnight in this temp. You show what to expect in cold temps, with battery percentage and range loss in cold temps.
You do understand that wind chill has no affect on a car only on human skin LOL Otherwise a car going down the highway at 100KM would freeze up. Wind chill is just BS........
I don't know what's the worst part of this video, the fact that people still try to act like evs are still so good and cool or that there were two teslas when the garage opened.
My diesel LC 150 can sit in the drive all week and the amount of diesel left in then tank will still be exactly the same regardless of temperature. Here evs are definitely not practical. Good for short trips and city dwellers, but up here in the mountains no use whatsoever.
Holy crap.... its like better choice to get EV car instead gasoline.... heating and instant running now wories about -80degree and more, but the battery packs probably will die sooner ;( Do not recomend tesla from Canada or other cold places :D
ICE doesnt lose range just sitting....that 22% is also attributed to SHORT RANGE TRIPS of constantly thermo cycling the car and the engine having to warm up multiple times. Until the engine warms to closed loop mode it is very inefficient. ICE is more efficient at highway speeds....Evs are more efficient for city start and stop driving.
Please delete this video - it's not accurate - you had sentry mode on and just propagates bad untrue info about EV's - you seem nice enough so please just do it again with accurate information and sentry mode off.
haha, the real world, all those tesla's simply breaking down at milder tempatures and stranded. This vid didn't age well. Reality of real owners caught up and they are all going back to gas powered cars. The small battery of a gas powered car might break too, but replacing it is usually 5 minute sub 200 dollar job and off you go!

You warmed up the car using 2% of the battery, without plugging it, so it’s clear something it’s wrong in your test.
So it would’ve lost 4-5% without sentry mode (before preheating)
The main use of the battery was sentry mode, not the cold
So don't get one of you live farther north than Missouri

@@joshuaprier2670 sentry mode is the security system that records 24/7 it has nothing to do with cold
@@James-cq9dp dummy sentry mode uses more of the battery, this effects the tests done in the video.

nebraska, or northeast? because i am in Nebraska and i can relate to the long winter

I recently ordered my model 3, how long does it takes to arrive?
@@JEGLZ_ depends. Long range with regular wheels is September-December as of now
Turn off sentry mode to save more battery because when it’s turn off the car will go to sleep but when it’s on the car stay on to record around it
I am aware but it was better to see it with sentry mode on

Is the battery loss better if parked inside and does it drain faster in wi ter while driving. Live in edmonton and might get the model y

Hadn't expected the Tesla to be still that useable at those temps.
The garage at 21°, really necessary ? Some people want to arm they house at 25° in the winter, and cold them at 21° in the summer !
I didn't notice you mention whether your test car BMS uses resistance heating or a heat pump, which would make a big difference.
Battery level does not equal range. Unless the motors are the only thing drawing current. If people would stop thinking like that, they wouldn't be so confused or disappointed.
-24 is not cold at all, even do not need plug block heater. 2 weeks ago is almost -40C. Can you drive your Tesla?
Yes drove all 4 of our Teslas with no issue other than a bit more than half the normal range
Can you describe can the car warm itself after sitting unplugged for 8 hours at work, for example at -30? And not to a reasonable 20c, but for what my wife would heat it to…25c?
Very useful information, thanks
Mind you bro, sentry mode was on - it definitely uses more energy than low temperature outside…
Yes this was a test with sentry mode on
➡️ Are this is Normal - long range - Performance models in the test
RWD Model 3
@@POGAutothank you
Why did you have sentry mode on? This is proven to drain the battery at 1 mile per hour. That ruined the test of this video

Hey how much kms does your 2021 model 3 get for 100% battery?

21 degrees garage is not necessary- keep it around 10. Big waste of heat
good point it has been changed for a while now.
Teslas do great in the cold. I will make a video about it soon.
With your experience with a Tesla, do you advice to get it even in this extreme temperature. I live in Saskatchewan and boy does it get super cold here😅
100% Yes but if I had to do it again I would've bought the Performance or Long Range.

Thanks for this video..just the one ive been looking for.. but your video cuts just makes it a little bit confusing..
the battery was drained by sentry mode. Re-do the test but this time have sentry mode off
So you can't leave this thing at the airport when you travel to Mexico.
So, how long did it take to heat up? You know we all want to know that

Please read description
and what is it in the description ? maybe I missed it. When you enable sentry mode you have a failed test. don't get it@@POGAuto
Would love to see the same test minus Sentry Mode.
I’ve done it please check the new video on the model X
So at -27C lose 10% battery.
It’s better than I expected (20%).
I am sticking with ice ice baby ICE. No such loss.
Great video. We're expecting delivery of our RWD by EOY. Our winters are as cold as yours. Do you recommend any specific brand of winter tires?
I will always recommend Michelin Ice-X series. Amazing grip on ice and low road noise.
Cars dont feel windchill.
So a trip to Edmonton is out of the question.
Ive done edmonton road trips so just check those videos out
I wonder if the temperature drop like-30 40c still able to charge or not.

I wonder how much it would drain if you left it at the parking lot in the Calgary airport for a week in the winter?
Calgary Airport does have Tesla chargers to keep your car plugged in when you are away
If I was leaving it at the airport, id put it in deep sleep mode (look it up) for that much time.

Sentry mode eats 8% battery alone every 12 hours above freezing.
How much gas does an ICE car eat when sentry mode is activated? Oh wait……😂
U had no regen cause u were at 100 percent charge. That happens too.
Bro y'all call 20°C warm!!
You just tested how much power Sentry uses unplugged 💀

Would be more informative to see with sentry turned off
I will try that on the next extreme cold event to have both perspective
Hayes Axper?
ayo
Want to see how it perfrom in cold snap like we had in edmonton -41 for month
I will do that test for sure but when we had those temperatures the model 3 was at a collision center waiting for parts
Ya -40 with 30 mph winds!
Not really useful. The real test would be driving and keeping the car warm at -35 not in sentry mode.
,hi:D wow it's cool
Holy crap.... its like better choice to get EV car instead gasoline.... heating and instant running now wories about -80degree and more, but the battery packs probably will die sooner ;( Do not recomend tesla from Canada or other cold places :D
Tesla Phantom braking alone should be a good reason why not to buy from Tesla
Feels Like... to Tesla...🤣🤣?
Definitely not a good idea to leave it at 100% over night, even for the test man, 80/90 percent would’ve been better for the battery’s health
No car for me. We i have to evacuat i will pay with Cash fast Gas in my Tank and in the Road without Spy Software
Wow, only 10% loss. According to the EPA an ICE vehicle at such extreme cold can lose up to 22% of its range.

Today is -43°C and feels like -54°C in Spruce Grove-Alberta... so glad to not having an EV, they are just not fit for these kind of environments..
Never ever EVER will ever consider this. Ever!!!!!
