When you sit to recite the Quran, your phone will ring. When you stand to pray two rak’ah(s), a message will ping you. When you intend to do a righteous act, a distraction or disturbance will surface. Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) said, “When the servant embarks on a devotional act, Allah sends diversions to him to test his truthfulness. If he fights, endures, and stands his ground, these diversions are soon replaced by that which assists him in devotion.”

We have to be sorry for the sins we committed and remorseful We have to leave those sins We have to intend to never do them again We have to hasten to ask Allah to forgive us as asking Allah to forgive us when we are in the throngs of death is not accepted. If the sins involved hurting people then we have to ask them also to forgive us.
May Allah ﷻ purify us from major and minor shirk. Ameen. One Dua I remember learning is: `O Allah!
