I had begun to dismount but was stuck on the part in the middle of the headlight. I did not want to use brute force to avoid to break pastic, and your video unstuck me, i see that you need brute force to remove that part :-) Anyway , my gps is installed and working now thanks to you !
This video was super helpful! I just installed my Garmin Zumo XT on my KTM 790 ADV R following the steps in this video. A little tricky putting the extra wiring in place to allow for the headlight to be put back in place but if you push the extra wiring towards the back top end of the compartment it will all fit. Took about 3 attempts to put the light back but with finesse and patience it will work. Thanks!
I bought the wiring kit from moto minded but I just realized it may be made for this particular unit. I’m also going with the Zumo xt. What wires did u use to hook yours up with? And is it a fused connection?
I have an 890 I'm throwing a wireless charger/mount on and this video definitely saved me some wasted wire routing. I had a hunch there would be switched power somewhere up front. Thanks!
Thanks ! I just installed a Garmin XT on my buddys 890 adventure R . This video was the reason everything turned out perfect! I wish my Africa Twin had such a cool way to mount the gps. Thanks again! Cheers from Montana!
Very helpful video! In my case wasn't necessary "diging" to search the wires, they was up in the front, i just conected the ones i have made, i don't have any gps for yet!! 😁
This was a great tutorial on how to get into the head unit. I had a difficult time getting the KTM screen disconnected from the wires. Eventually I got it done and have now reassembled the head. Thanks!
Very useful, thanks. Initially I wanted to use the wires under the back seat, but eventually it's not so simple to get the cable trough the tight space under the tank. I ended up dismounting the headlight as well, and it's not that difficult.
I used this video to mount my Zumo in my 790 R. Then I had to go back and review this for removal. Getting the 790R back to stock to make ready for trade in on the new 890 Rally that just arrived. Talk about your first world problems. LOL Thank you sir!
I just installed my GPS yesterday on my 790R too. I used the same billet mount you used. Very nice. Keep an eye on that instrument panel. They are prone to condensation. KTM will replace it under warranty.
I don’t know if it’s an issue with the 2020’s yet. Mine would get condensation just sitting in the garage during cold weather. ADV Rider has a good 790 sub forum on all the 790 issues, fixes, and upgrades. Cold weather starting, idling and stalling was an issue with mine. Bikes are too lean. The Booster Plug will richin it up enough to eliminate those hiccups, stalling, and improves throttle response.
@@TheKaiserCz I have the Vanasche GPS mount and I plan to run the cable from the mount/cradle direct to the switched powered wires that terminate in the headlight housing. It's good to know that nothing more is needed. Thanks for the reply!
love KTMs, awesome bikes. had a 950 SE, now have a husky FE-450, but waiting for the yama-hammer T7 before making a final decision on the next adv bike.
Great video, Travis. I wish KTM would have had an ACC2 connector come up and tied off just under the cover that you remove to place the GPS mount. They do this with the Norden 901 and you don't have to take the TFT off and remove the headlight. I guess I'll install my GPS permanent wiring on my KTM 890 Adventure after my first warranty work is done. Not sure if they would void my warranty if they knew I disassembled the headlight.
Ya, I’ve heard the Norden has it up there. That is a huge help I doubt they would void a warranty based on you taking the headlight out unless something you did effects what a problem was.
Good advice thanks Travis I'd like to go the lockable mount to save whipping it on and off all the time. I'm doin crash bars atm GPS is down the long long list of the so called ready to race KTM 790 R
Hi Travis, Do you know what the bulb looking thing is behind the headlamp. Kind of looks like a ambient type sensor. Sits behind all the cables behind headlamp. Great video. I like how you routed your GPS wire. Kam
Hello. I’m not actually sure what you’re talking about as I haven’t been inside the headlight since I made this video. Wish I had some more info for ya
That was my question also. I was sure someone else would ask also, so I read the comments before asking. He should have made that a little more clear. Thanks for asking.
Hi. Thanks for doing video. Ive just got satnav to fit to my 790r. Do you have heated grips fitted? Only Ive been told that if you have then they would have already taken the acc2 accessory wires. Any advice appreciated. Tom
Travis, I'm getting ready to do this, but need to know first, do you not need to hook of the other wires such as the antenna, speed sensor, and heat sensor? I wanted to make sure before I jump into this project.

So, one of the bolts that goes through the headlight housing, into the headlamp unit, does not come loose. Seems the thread is warped, or the innercoil is loose in the unit. Yuk.
From what I hear they are just starting to show up in certain parts of the world. Not sure if anybody in the US has one yet the suspension and a couple other upgrades alone are worth the price difference to me

Anyone in Canada using a Trail tech device? how do the maps compare with backroad map books? Would you go TT or Garmin?
The tracks were there when I went up a couple years ago. And you can overlay any map you want to make it even better

Is this GPS better than the Ktm app, for Navigation which works thru your phone?
It has some amazing features I love using. Check out my latest video on the BikeBandit channel. We use this for a 300 mile ride through Mexico
