  • Erving Goffman wrote about regions and region behavior in order to contextualize performances. Could regions and region behavior be applied to how we manage our lives on the Internet? Chris has two blogs: one for friends and family, and the other for Internet friends. His story could be analyzed as region behavior, or as an example of audience segregation within an idealized performance.
Erving Goffman was a sociologist who used theater terminology to analyze everyday interactions, and called this method dramaturgy. Erving Goffman and You explores the main tenets of Erving Goffman's writings on face-to-face interaction using six different modern day anecdotes. The episodes cover many of Goffman's concepts, including unmeant gestures, regions, teams, tactful inattention, impression management, and idealized performances.
