Dramaturgical theory - life is like a stage, people actively control their appearance. Impression management is used as a tool for the front stage (the social aspect) of our lives where we try to be accepted through manipulation. The back stage (being alone) is hidden, where we practice how to be social

the complexity of social structure is not easy as a theater script like the goffman's theory. the actor and director are only suitable as a social community stage, not as a social system of society.

Thank you for this lecture. Very clear and helpful. Although the one point I am not sure is if Goffman really believed in the idea of an single authentic self.

This is the Japanese idea of ura and omote by another name. It's living in a way to protect the relationship between the self and the other in a way that is supportive of the social context lived in.

This is a great & informative video, but plays on a strange theme of people inherently being social people-pleasers, rather than creatures who are subject to the very real societal accords that govern shame & survival.

      Hi Sonal,
I know! Some of my videos have horrible sound :) I'm still learning. I wish I had time to work on updating all of the older videos on my channel, and I will add this video to the list, but honestly, I doubt I'll have time to get back to it.
