I am now on my second CF-30 and both of mine have the built in GPS on the lid plus my old one had a fingerprint scanner for security while my new one has the antenna for increased Wi-Fi signal. If you didn't want or need the CD/DVD drive you can replace that with an extra battery. For those that may be curious there is a small hole in the left hinge that is for a mic but most don't have that installed. The CF-30 can be setup with cellular service as well. They are a lot cheaper now on eBay and I got my current one with Windows 10.

This is clearly the most informative review of the cf-30. No need to test its ruggedness. It's what it says on the tin .

Great vid. Just installing the 30 in our Magnum cruiser for process serving and skip tracing. This will be a great asset while on the road. Your video showed me that I still don't need to go to the cf19 or higher model. The 30 still has the capabilities. The selling point from the 29 to the 30 M2 was the built in modem. No need for a data hotspot. Thanks again. J.

Two days ago i bought it at MYR 500 (USD120), a great deal because it was $7000 when it was launched in 2007! I've only just using it for a day, but I can say that this is really durable, I don't need to worry about any accidental drop and no need backpack to carry it.

That's why they have carrying handles, they're meant to just pickup like a briefcase.

I believe heated elements are not needed for an SSD hard drive. can also fit a second hard drive where the dvd drive goes with a case/caddy found on ebay.

+Nor Norranun funny you should mention it...I was Army Infantry for 4 years. now I work in an automotive shop an a rugged laptop is what the job requires... It even came with automotive diagnostic software so it was a no brainer when I saw it for 300 bucks. Had it for about 2 weeks now an I love it.

to all those wondering...these laptops were $7000 USD new. This is a cf-30 which you can buy for under $300 USD. Why so cheap now? military surplus is the answer. we used these in the military. they are sand proof, water proof, shock drop resistant and can be equipt with GPS so you can have access to server in remote areas. Some were even touch screen. I purchased some of these for about $200 a piece for my field mechanics. they have wifi and are as titled...."tough". they are bulking and heavy, but they aren't designed for white collar office use. they are meant for workers in the field (construction sites, explorers conducting research in remote areas, field mechanics, and military personnel).

Believe it or not, in 2017 I got one of these Panasonic CF-30 Toughbooks, factory new and unused, the same configuration as demonstrated here with the exception it has instead of the HD a 120 GB SSD. I had the CF-19 before but unfortunately sold it. The CF-30 is larger and I prefer it to the newer models as the quality is so much better. I run it with the latest version of Windows 10 Pro and it works excellently. It is not the quickest machine, but then a 'tank' is not a 'limousine'. I did not pay US$7000 for it but got the factory new one for $2500. I prefer it to all my super crazy i7 laptops as it is using quality and is perfect for my research work regardless what the weather or temperature may be. Antarctica is a rather cold place! The i7 race machines are dead and gone compared to the quality of the CF-30. The only problem is that my touchscreen will not work using Win 10 Pro as Panasonic never makes drivers for updated system software. They want that you purchase a new computer. This is a very bad attitude of a company that is proud to produce high-quality products but disregards looking after updates. I overcame the missing touchscreen driver with a far better solution in purchasing a Wacom digital drawing pad and now I have a large area to mouse around and be able to do drawings. By the way, the computer works perfectly fine with the latest Ubuntu system software if you are a Linux friend. It is a highly recommended computer also starring in many movies. Get one, you will not regret it!!!

Damn... With how tiny they're making laptops today, you could carry this around, with no worries that anyone would think it's anything but some clunky, briefcase-like, ancient object, not worth stealing. Safest laptop in the world. I'd opt for something in between though. Sturdy, but won't kill my kid if it's accidentally knocked over on them.

This model is old and no longer made, its current version is a CF-31 and they start out at about $4,000 and go up to about $8,000 depending on how they are configured. Very expensive, and for most people something they don't need. These things are NOT indestructible, but they will take a pretty horrible beating and still function.
Your best bet is to watch Ebay.

    • @dldeanlong77
      @dldeanlong77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

around $200 to $500 try ebay. the one in this video looks in new condition.some have GPS and LTE sim slot. can tell by looking the top outside of screen. there are different models. normally tell by the sticker near keyboard. Vista model is best. XP not so good for HD video. but works fine otherwise. can also fit a second hard drive where the dvd drive fits with a drive case found in ebay.

Military, law enforcement, emergency personnel. Most get installed in vehicles so they don't get moved around much, but they have to be able to withstand the harsh work environments of those places. I know you can get them configured for all sorts of things, even for the automotive repair industry, you can get them pre-configured with vehicle repair manuals and diagnostics. Pretty much anything you can think of that you need a laptop for you can use one of these. Panasonic makes rugged tablets and phones as well.

+Ausintune The 7,000 USD comes from magnesium alloy armor that resists the elements and contains shock absorption. It's also engineered to repel dust and particles from going in. Are you gonna game while in combat warfare in the jungle?

you dont realise how important speed is in warfare, you need fast boot up times that only can be achieved with NVME sdd while these toughbook only have HDD that cant resist shock and you need powerful core for computing, and how come theres a laptop called the T420 by lenovo that has a magnesium roll cage for 900 USD

Gotta say as someone who knows computers and had exposure to these kinds of products.
    They are shit.
Its all flimsy plastic bullshit. You knock the fucker over its broken like any other laptop.
My mother works in the field and has had several and they all got broken somehow.
Not to mention the hardware on most of these things SUCK.
You pay 1000's more just to have a shit laptop that only appears to be protected when in reality its just plastic bullshit. Yes if you are still using a shitty disk hard drive then yeah it cousins it a tiny bit, but its honestly cheaper to invest in a little usb if that is your main concern and a ssd. hard drisk drives are obsolete for the most part.
Buy a real laptop with good hardware. Its is probably as resilient as these and if not its wayyyy faster to the point where the negligible "protection" does not even register.
    My two cents.
