Actually, I probably misspoke. I THINK they are a cast aluminum alloy. I've heard them called mags for so long that it just kinda stuck... Feel free to ask around for a second opinion just in case. Some builders claim they hold up great, I just don't trust them personally.
Your correct about paint, with radiator paint being the only acceptable paint to use on a heat transfer surface but strictly for cosmetic and corrosion protection purposes. Exhaust paint used on the exhaust system does have a benefit as the higher temperature does increase exhaust flow, same as exhaust wrap. Now the effects on the expansion chamber length tuning is where things get really complicated.
Great review and information.I've wondered how much difference there really was in the torque. Thanks for letting us know.I didn't know which frames were weak.I'll certainly check closer before buying any.Hope everyone has a good weekend.Happy Trails.
I miss riding my Demon. I crashed it last month and I can't find cheap parts to replace the front fork, brakes and wheels. The thing is, I'm cheap and I don't wanna spend 300 dollars on a ,,Cheap" frame like this one.
I have a stock 49cc motor that i have topped out at over 50mph. I do agree it does take a minute to warm up but ive used it as a daily driver in all weather. Ive wrecked 3 times and the motor isnt the same. Its been pretty reliable even with all that. Im glad though because i think i top out around 30mph now which is great
Very well done, I have been looking in to frames and saving some$ right now out of my price range. Yes but some day one will be mine. thank you for that informational video.
Alright great info! Thanks, my man. Kinda a bummer the bike isn't stronger 😕 but at least you have it going and on the road. At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
I can’t believe the difference between a 49cc and a standard 66cc. The take off is the real killer. They just didn’t have much low end touque. It seems that you had to slip the clutch slot more to just get moving.
what I like about the 49cc is that its very smooth with minimal vibration though I have to agree when compared to the 66/80 the power is lacking but it will also depend on how you use it. I used my 2 stroke 49cc on a 200km ride, mostly flats but I also had to deal 2 mountain roads that had steep roads at about 5-7% gradient and I had to rest my engine just not to risk overheating and seizing, my setup back then was I had a fat belly pipe and a 40T sprocket. But what amazed me on that ride was the phenomenal fuel consumption and the fact my body was not whacked due to the smoothness of the engine.
If you didn't say it was a 49cc, I would have thought it was a typical 66cc. I am always worried about ordering a 66cc but getting a 49cc. You never know with the lack of quality control from vendors in this industry what you will get. For example, I ordered a wild cat pk80 from California motorbikes based on one of your reviews and it arrived with about half of the parts of the kit missing. I couldn't believe someone would ship an Engine kit to a customer like that.
I would suggest taking a wire wheel to that cylinder and getting all that Black paint off there. At least by cleaning up the fins, The aluminum will stay a little cooler.
Hi there. Phatmoto has the Rover @ 1499. Have they made it worth buyng? I do remember tank problems & such. They are pretty I think. I value your judgment. Summer is here.
Hi , much love for safety first We should also consider thinking about 'the extra risk we take after acquiring safety gear' Ive noticed myself speeding more after wearing riding jacket pants boots gloves helmet ... Not good i believe , i have to keep reminding myself to go easy or i might die ..
My china doll was weak the first 3 tanks but the 4th tank I felt had a strong top end. Still not enough TQ to make it up and upgrade without pedaling but can cruise comfortably at 35 mph
Do you know what width the bottom bracket is on the beefy newer gas bike frames? I am looking to purchase a splined bottom bracket and was never changed the one or measured it on my old gas bike frame. Keep up the nice info
Hi my younger brother, the paint don't exist. At one time it was rumored NASA had something. Micargi stretch frames are a good choice. I have been riding mine 12 years with a 66cc on it.
Oh no sketchy bikeberry mags!, they have decent bearings and axles though, i was able to take the sealed bearings and axles and put them in a pair of spoke wheels I have, think I just got lucky but they went in perfectly.
Whatabout ceracoate or duracoate? Ceramic based bake on epoxies, real thin stuff and durable….. i have no idea if there would be a heat transfer benifit though. Be fun to try
I was thinking the other day what if someone tack welded a bunch of wires sticking out of the engine in the direction as to catch the air if it would cool more efficiently
I have a mountain bike that has 26 inch spoke rims that take up to 26×2.75 tires and want to install an engine on it. I am thinking of using a 4 stroke 49cc engine with a Jack shaft kit added so as to use the gears while using the engine for both power while climbing hills plus speed on flats and down hill parts of the road would this be feasible and possible to be do also si an thinking of adding a larger fuel tank for longer range of travel and adding a trailer hitch hook up so as to add a small trailer/cart to run errands like going to the store, ect and maybe later adding an electric rear wheel engine to make it a hybrid pedal assist bike for travel and hunting can this be done?
Great video as always! I wanted to ask though, are these any good at climbing hills? I live in a pretty hilly place and wouldn't want to spend $150 on a stock kit just for it to not be of any use. Love your videos
The two 49cc kits I have tested don't handle hills well without significant modifications (I'm 210lb for reference). The 66/80 (Zeda 80, wildcat pk80, ect) handles mild hills fine, add a pipe and they do better... The yd-100 (Zeda 100) does great on hills.
For a budget build the Lockland looks like it has more salvageable parts than the Cranbrook, but will the frame be weakened where the rear v brake is mounted, like the frames with the racks?
I remember you where going to do a full review of this frame last year! LOL well in between that time working on this frame and riding it and seeing a few other of these frames snap on the down tube under the tank, im afraid i have to a agree with you and admit defeat, im looking at the cdh felt faker and a set of gemini's. with the p85 when i get the crank balanced.
Nice I'm going to be keeping an eye on this, I got a 49cc kit on trade and I'm planning on building a bike for my son with it, I don't want to put him on something that fast but I don't want the poor kid riding a turd either 😅
@@stingray2173 hey man I really appreciate you responding, yeah I definitely was considering going with a fat belly pipe for it, I have a couple 66cc motors and I have expansion chambers on both.

Hey LA, have you ever considered building a high horsepower 4 stroke? A predator 79 can make 7HP with mods, I have a stock one in my 2020 cranbrook and it just barely fits. The clearance all around is like 3mm.
I have a motorized bike with a 80cc 2 stroke engine, and here in my country we usually get rid of the pedals to intall a fixed place to put our feet and have a brake pedal as well, the same way as normal motorcycles, and my question is why do every video from another country that I see you still use the pedals isn't it very unconfortable?
Slight detail left out about the black surface and head radiation. The only advantage of black radiating more heat is in a static environment - aka no airflow. The second you add convection it has no advantage.
Question and it don't pertain to this video I built several motorized bikes and haven't messed with the Dual spark setup do you know anything about them and are they worth taking time to do

@xPaPaDx So, it's an acronym? What does it stand for?

paint nor wrap increases flow.all it does is keep the heat in the tube until its expelled.
@@motorizedbikestuff5339 which in turn should help increase the flow a bit no?

It's a good looking frame, agreed. I think it's just strong enough for cruising.

Zeda 66 aka triple 40 feels like it has almost double the power of a bad 49cc kit. Zeda 66 also feels very similar to the YD100 in power
@@Ezra7X they have the same top speed but the yd100 will get there quicker because of the 50mm piston
I sure miss my bike...!!!
Will be building another one next year
I can speak from experience that these 49ccs are in fact cold blooded. Every one of them.
