    good instructions, clear and easy to follow. One thing, don't use music, it really isn't needed and gets irritating especially when it's the same loop over and over. Just talk, dump the music.

    Whenever driving a seal with a spring lip into a spot like that that you can't get behind, use some grease or "sil-glyd" to fill the channel that the spring rides in, to keep the spring front popping off when hammering in, could save a lot of time and headache.
    Awesome video, i look forward to all the upcoming content

    If anyone is looking for this seal but for the AW4 automatic transmission, it’s NAPA part number 19622 or jeep part number 8350 4055

    That seal you used between the transmission and transfer case is for a different extension housing used for 2WD vehicles. But it won’t hurt anything.😂

    • @Bad_Laggy
      @Bad_Laggy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They dont use them there so theres nothing to allow the t-case to loosen over time. The minimal dust that can get in there thru the weap hole never causes any issues and water just drains right back out

  • @jakemarine84
    @jakemarine84 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You're never supposed to put RTV on seals and you're never supposed to use Vaseline, it can dry rubber out, if you need an assembly lube use white lithium grease, or assembly lube.

    Why just press the seal in with your fingers and not tap it with a seal tool? Couldn’t it come loose? Thnx

  • @paisa007

    Are there 2 seals?one on the transfer case side and one on the transmission side

    • @Bad_Laggy
      @Bad_Laggy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are but from what i understand, the trans one is almost always the only one that fails. That said, i would have done both while it was apart

  • @skater75450
    @skater75450 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what if there is ATF leaking everywhere would that mean it's the transfer case seal?

  • @lol123321123321
    @lol123321123321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the seal not designed to be an interference fit?? As in it does not need to be "pressed" in place with a socket and hammer.

    • @michaelbleepinjeep5817
      @michaelbleepinjeep5817 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a special tool to "press" it in. I generally despise tasks that require an expensive special tool that only does the one job. However, I did use an old bearing and hammer to seat it two or three times but it wouldn't stay then either (that footage didn't make the final cut). I discovered it can be pushed in by hand, so I did. In hindsight, I think the RTV made it a bit slick.

      @lol123321123321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael BleepinJeep haha yeah I feel you. Ive never used a legit seal installer. Usually just a socket or a piece of wood. It seems like this seal has ribs on it so it wasn't quite as tight as a interference fit like a pinion seal or axle seal. Good video!

  • @gabugabu1976
    @gabugabu1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You want that dust seal back in, not metal on metal. That gasket will have a thickness of 1/32-1/16” which acts like a shim. I would put it back to spec.

    You should have snuck a feeler gauge down the shaft so the seal could burp the air out, which is why it kept popping out, air pressure.

    • @michaelbleepinjeep5817
      @michaelbleepinjeep5817 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Watch again, especially the vaseline part. There is at least 1/2" around the shaft on all sides. The seal doesn't ride against the transmission output shaft, but on the transfer case input shaft.
