This song is a victory song for humankind/spirit. Love it's still being covered now but PP@M's rendition still after 50+ years raises my Soul and the hairs on my arms
What a terrific song that is. Peter Paul and Mary sang some of the most powerful and memorable folk songs ever recorded. Their harmony was so amazing. No other folk group came close to their level of talent from the 60s or since. They were the greatest.
@@philippacrowe8499 Dylan? He wrote amazing songs How can anyone who lived through the 60s ever forget him? I miss those years. IMO, there will never be folk music like what we listened to during those years again.
Yes, and we miss having the New Republican Party as the reigns went over to the TOTALLY corrupt dem party who even voted AGAINST civil rights, while the Republican Party voted FOR civil rights, but the Dem party won’t tell you that. That’s why the Dem party does not wantu listening to anything besides CNN (even though there audience is nill) or the dem regime media and why they put down any other kind of media, because they are AFRAID you will learn the truth about them and others! To all those that haven’t a clue, U Gotta roll with the tide.
I so Love ❤️ this song and became an Anthem of our Globe 🌍 that we All call HOME and we are All RELATED!! Thanks so much BD for writing it and for PP& M for Highlighting my Life with their version! Mary I am Hoping you are Smiling down from up above when you hear both Peter and Paul still playing this song! You are so missed by me! RIP Mary, 😢 0:04 N 0:04 Neal from Boston,Ma. :))
When life passes quickly and memories still remain, let's celebrate those songs that lasted and affected us so deeply. When The Ship Comes In is one of mine.
I am now 76 years old and this wonderful group --- and this wonderful song --- takes me back to the mid 1960's! In those days, there were three female singers whose voices were recognizable the moment they started to sing. One was Mary Travers; one was Joan Baez, and the third was the magic Judith Durham of the Seekers. What a wonderful era it was!
Oh how I mourn the sheer talent of days past.... The Words of Bob Dylan, rightfully considered the Poet of the 20th Century And the beauty of the Voices to speak the poetry of Peter Paul and Mary! A recipe for Brilliance is all it can be! 💞
I feel privileged to seen them In the mid sixties at Carnegie Hall and Rallies for Civil Rights and Anti War Rallies. 😊 even later on through the decades as their voice still could weave a tapestry of lyrics and harmony. I miss them This is who they were

..and the sands will roll out a carpet of gold for your weary toes to be a touchin' and the ship's wise men will remind us once again that THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD IS WATCHING. Now there are some powerful lyrics. They defined and era.
Always loved this song. Now it reminds me of breaking the chains of fear and obsession from the Pandemic. The words that were used for to get the ship confused are no longer understood that were spoken, for the chains of the sea were busted in the night and now are buried in the bottom of the Ocean.
My take on the pandemic was that we lived by the motto, bend but don't break. That's what I did. They didn't make it to the goal line on us, and eventually they gave up. You put a different political spin on the song, but artists and writers don't control the meaning of their work once it's put out in public. I have my own idea for how to do a video for this song. It has a conservative message, I suppose. But it is against war too.
Their secret sauce, in addition to lots of talent, is that Mary's contralto and Peter's tenor overlap significantly, to allow close harmonies. Great stuff!
Not speaking about the few that kept the light going.. and bless those who kept the spirit going, … but how could this generation, go from this, to most of them wearing red hats today?
LYRICS Oh the time will come up when the wind will stop And the breeze will cease to be breathin' Like the stillness in the wind 'fore the hurricane begins The hour that the ship comes in. Oh the seas will split and the ship will hit And the sand on the shoreline will be shakin' And the tide will sound and the waves will pound And the mornin' will be breakin'! Oh the fishes will laugh as they swim out of the path And the seagulls, they'll be smilin' And the rocks on the sand will proudly stand The hour that the ship comes in. And the words that are used for to get the ship confused Will not be understood as they're spoken' For the chains of the sea will have busted in the night And be buried on the bottom of the ocean. Oh a song will lift as the mainsail shifts And the boat drifts onto the shoreline And the sun will respect every face on the deck The hour that the ship comes in. And the sands will roll out a carpet of gold For your weary toes to be a touchin' And the ship's wise men will remind you once again That the whole wide world is watchin'! Of the foes will rise with the sleep still in their eyes And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin' But they'll pinch themselves and squeal And they'll know that it's for real The hour that the ship comes in. And they'll raise their hands sayin' We'll meet all your demands But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered! And like pharaoh's tribe they'll be drownded in the tide And like goliath they'll be conquered!
Interesting that Mary is a fair distance from the mic she shares with Paul but you have no trouble hearing her. It brings to mind a story I heard years ago. That Peter would sometimes have to tell her to tone it down because her voice would overwhelm. 😁👏👏
Oh, the time will come up When the winds will stop And the breeze will cease to be breathin' Like the stillness in the wind Before the hurricane begins The hour that the ship comes in And the seas will split And the ship will hit And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking Then the tide will sound And the wind will pound And the morning will be breaking Oh, the fishes will laugh As they swim out of the path And the seagulls they'll be smiling And the rocks on the sand Will proudly stand The hour that the ship comes in And the words that are used For to get the ship confused Will not be understood as they're spoken For the chains of the sea Will have busted in the night And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean A song will lift As the mainsail shifts And the boat drifts on to the shoreline And the sun will respect Every face on the deck The hour that the ship comes in Then the sands will roll Out a carpet of gold For your weary toes to be a-touchin' And the ship's wise men Will remind you once again That the whole wide world is watchin' Oh, the foes will rise With the sleep still in their eyes And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin' But they'll pinch themselves and squeal And know that it's for real The hour when the ship comes in Then they'll raise their hands Sayin' we'll meet all your demands But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered And like Pharaoh's tribe They'll be drownded in the tide And like Goliath, they'll be conquered

Why was music so much better and more meaningful back then?? I can’t find any musicians like the ones during the counterculture movement, instead everyone’s obsessed with Taylor swift who sings about her ex boyfriends.

This is everything in one little neat package. Sit and listen children to the Truth
They sing with true, soul, and feeling, and we also feel the same.
I attended one of their concerts back in the 1960's. This was their opening number.
Me too. At Indiana University in the spring of 68. They opened with this and totally blew the crowd away.
