Mary Travers (RIP) puts her entire body, heart and soul into her performances. This is no exception. Her vocal contribution in this case is, as always, on pitch and heartily delivered. But it is her physical and emotional (and, dare I say, spiritual) deliverance that is so arresting. You can read about this true encounter of Jesus Christ by a women at the well in the Biblical Scriptures, and I hope you do. Jesus changed her life and believing in Him will change and redeem yours.
Fantastic harmony, one of the finest folk singing trios of all time. They put so much feeling into their music. That is missing with so many artists today, unfortunately.
I agree with you 1,000%.!!! There was something so special about them, beyond all the obvious things. Something so spiritual, so magical. Not only was Mary Travers so beautiful, on the outside and the inside, but I always thought she had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard, in popular music. They all harmonized so beautifully together. I finally got to meet her up close and personal at the Inaugural Ball for Bill Clinton, in 1993, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She was so gracious and kind. A lot of musical artists that I have loved have passed away, but when I heard about Mary Travers, I was completely devastated, and felt so depressed for days and days.
It was a too-brief golden moment in pop music history when folk music swept the country in the early sixties, and this trio was among the finest groups of that era. I listened to their concert album over and over. Thank you for posting this clip.
That pure voice of Miss Mary and the Boys. I saw them in the 60’s up to Mary’s passing and went to her Memorial with 6000 people at Riverside Church in NYC. 🌹❤️☮️☮️
Wonderful tribute to Mary. She was a fellow Loisvillian and I heard that she passed when I was driving to work. I had to pull over and stop in a parking lot and cry. What a gift they were to us
One of the most soulful ballards I have ever heard. went to church the next day. Know one can wail like Mary (RIP). Go to see them live a number of years ago at a venue in downtown Pittsburgh
My pastor Eddie Wagenstein played this video at church Sunday at Grace Fellowship in Eugene Oregon. Absolutely beautiful song, beautiful story. Jesus sees us all the same no matter what sin we've ever committed but we are called to repent and live for him, praise Jesus spread the love.
Totally complete description of the Scriptural account of this episode in our Lord's life on this earth. And a soulful account. Don't think this would pass the current censors of our media today!
We're all 'religious' at the core. I would suggest that the delivery and something about the content touched you and swept you along. The story of Jesus and the woman at the well is powerful. It has to do with breaking down the barriers between us no matter our station in life. I'll bet that speaks to you. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Yeah, you are totally right. I am a Christian-believing person. Had never heard of this song before, or PPM singing it. I stumbled across it a couple years ago. Found it totally righteous (that is, truthful ) and instructive for me. Instructive for me because I prayed to God to examine me and show me my sins. Well He did, again in this Lenten season. And I am a repentant sinner and a grateful one .We are so fortunate to have a creative and loving God.
The life she gives to this song makes me feel the life Jesus put into his preaching! He was not a bunch of this and that while he stood like a graven image!
As a 36 year old who's been listening to them all my life I never thought it would be possible to see them in their prime. Mary is such a fucking vibe.
Dandelion sent me here. (And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”)
It sometimes amazes me the volume they all manage to project even though they are some distance from the microphones. I watch more contemporary performers on TV and they all seem to be right on top of their mics.

I saw them perform this years ago at UC Davis. Highlight of my life.
We are so lucky that this was recorded
Peter, Paul and mainly Mary have been the biggest influence on my music and songs I write and sing. Live the harmony and the folk sound.

back in the early 60s i used to think that the sun rose and set on PPM and now looking back nearly 60 years later, i realize i was right.............
She was some woman
I am exactly the same Bless you

You were right indeed.
This was their best song ever.
Well they did so many more great ballads. PPM were best in a live venue
I agree. Their best ever

Going back to the past is a blast 🦋 Loved their folk music! Could listen to all their songs over and over 🎙

I saw them in Pittsburgh too! At the old Starlake amphitheater
Absolutely one of my favourites from PP&M. Got to see them live on two occasions.

Awww amen true
Amen to that!!!
I have always loved Peter, Paul and Mary.....saw them in concert in 1968 at Monmouth College......will always remember how great they were.
Magical voice of Mary Travers.
It is so sad that she died in cause of cancer.
Very expressive interpretation : thanks

I always add a final verse, “Jesus gave the woman Living Waters, springing up to life eternal, through him.”
@@annettetesta8816 Yes, He fills our souls with purpose, with strength, with love. His salvation and God's Holy Spirit are what and all we need.
Amazingly simplistic yet so powerful. Always gets me on my feet.
I'm not one bit religious, but the way in which they deliver this song is mightily impressive and I got swept along.

@@jefffeldman3861 thank you Jeff! What a wonderful way to look at things.
Jesus has absolutely nothing to do with religion.

I am not sure where my "you are totally right" comment went to!! Jesus is the Lord of my life and I hope you all experience Him the same.
That Dickey on the right is Dickey Kniss… many years with PPM and John Denver… a great friend, may he Rest In Peace
When I heard this song I can't hold my tears love you 3000 times
The life she gives to this song makes me feel the life Jesus put into his preaching! He was not a bunch of this and that while he stood like a graven image!
i love Jesus
Bless your heart.

Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul @ Mary, Dylan- PPM, top of the list.
Love them. Saw them twice in Wellington New Zealand in the 60's. Thought Mary was the sexiest woman on earth.
My heart soars....
THE quintessential version!
Dandelion sent me here.

Sister LaRhonda preached on this last Sunday and this song kept playing in my mind.
Just wow. No group had more complex vocal arrangements than PP&M.
Except the Beach Boys
How in the h**l did 6 people give this a thumbs down???
you said it yourself, friend - it was from hell that thumbs down came at all chuckles but for real Love and Prayers in Christ! chuckling still
I basically hate it, tbh
The best account I know of this incident is in William Temple's 'Readings in St John's Gospel'. Very profound
Extraordinary talent
Best of best! from Japan!(^^)!
Love her
You had to see them live in any venue. That Mary could go from a contralto to a countertenor
Their best!
I agree. Of all the songs they did, this is gold.
Wow
I 💘 ppm rip mary
Who's the other guy playing on the right hand; Dickie Smothers on the bass, by any chance?
Dick Kniss on contrabass.
Dick Kniss
☺️👍
Paul doesn't really sing much in this one. It's such a great song even though only two of them are singing. Love their harmony!!
He comes in at the right time! Perfect!
@@dfertefwergwergrfgwr Yep, you're correct. 😀
Does anyone know the history of this song? Just recently discovered this. Sounds like old spiritual? Thanks!
אם אתם יודעים אולי אתם זוכרים באיזה אכנסיה או כנסיה הוא פגש?
Jesus told the woman go and sin no more
Not sure about this version but I love nick cave's version!
Nicks is fantastic but I think even he would agree that this is the essential version.
They would not get water with her; why would they believe her when she said the man at the well is a prophet? There’s more to this story.
To those blown away by this rendition, I kindly suggest listening to Mahalia Jackson. th-cam.com/video/5SYxW8uCVkU/w-d-xo.html
Different but beautiful. Love Mahalia too
I thought mama cass? But now as age comes,Mary is the real one, real voice, better than pasty cline?
