    The sharpener now has a grey-black sheen from the steel it has removed over the last few years. It still sharpens reasonably well

      @victorinox  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dear iandstanley,
      Thank you for your interest in our products and services.
      Even sharpening steels can show signs of wear and/or use. Weather a sharpening steel has to be replaced or not only becomes apparent if the blade does not sharpen. As a first step, clean the sharpening steel, if this has never been done before.
      The best way to clean sharpening steels is to rinse them under running water with a brush made of plastic and a microfiber cloth.
      Caution! Do not use a metal brush!
      We hope, that we were able to help you with these information and wish you a pleasant afternoon.

      It depends for what you need it. If you go for camping or to the forest making a fire, the Victorinox Huntsman will be good. You have two blades, scissors and a saw (very sharp) for wood. This model exists in red but also in Army style.
      And if you find any time the alox model (original former soldier's knive with the year on blade) then buy it. It will never brake. Mine is from 1985 and still working..

    If you are going to show someone using your sharpening tools at least make sure they are not an amateur sharpener. That technique was full of mistakes that will eventually ruin the blade. Overall, a misleading commerical to promote bad sharpening techniques with inadequate tools...

      Victorinox blade steel sure is good enough for the things I use it for. Peel an apple, cut some string, opening packages etc. They are not meant for hard use. The most important thing for a pocket knife steel is that it won't rust in your pocket. Victorinox steel is very corrosion resistant.

    Buy one or two good sharpening stones rather than subject your blades to this type of torture. Unless your blade is extremely dull, you shouldn't need anything more than a 1000 Grit wet or splash stone.

      @@dabeaniebeaner You can pick up two good stones for under 100 combined. Shapton is a solid brand to go with. either a 350 or 500 grit along with a 1000 grit. A higher grit just gives you a more polished finish.
