Had a knock off one and I needed a quality tool for the job and when I bought a Victorinox and tried to use it and I half expect it to be rough because I've been using a fake one, but oh boy it was smooth and did not disappoint! My grandpa gave me his pocket-knive when I was 8. It was lost when my family moved and I just found it after 13 years! It is in a rough shape but can't wait to fix it!
I lost my tinker about 2 weeks ago, I thought I dropped it getting out of the car or outside, I realize I was never going to see it again so I ordered 2 new ones, a day later my little tinker pops up, now I have 2 more saks, which isn't an issue, it's the best feeling finding something you thought you lost

I was carrying multifunctional pliers on my motorcycle while camping, they more or less did the job for me. Recently, my father gave me an old victornox as a gift. Since it had not been used for a long time, the blades were very difficult to open (I could open it with the help of pliers) and it was quite dirty. After a good maintenance, it was the first It is as good as the day before, now I understand better how high quality it really is, because it is very useful in many jobs, the blue color I have looks much better than the red.

I have several sak's and they're all great, the one I use everyday is the tomato knife, for preparing vegetables dinner and for eating dinner, it's a great knife. I also use the sak executive wood 81 most days too, it's surprisingly useful
Got my Officer model at the Victorinox factory in 1964. They assembled it for me on the spot because I wanted the Philips screwdriver option instead of the standard corkscrew. Also got the real ivory toothpick instead of plastic.
I taught sharpening to Boy Scouts for years. To get the correct angle I told them to pretend the sharpening stone, card, whatever was a stick and they wanted to take a slice of it. They all came away able to get good sharp edges on their blades.
Have owned manySwiss Army Knives over the years with the Swiss Champ my favorite. It has come in handy on a daily basis. BTW, I like the first sharpening tool. That one is easy to use.
I have a number of Swiss Army knives from Victorinox I also have the Victorinox sharpener (the pencil style sharpener in reed / black) which I have always used to sharpen my SAKs The sharpener now has a grey-black sheen from the steel it has removed over the last few years. It still sharpens reasonably well I was wondering what your advice would be to clean the SAK sharpener, which I would assume would improve the effectiveness of the sharpener

Weather a sharpening steel has to be replaced or not only becomes apparent if the blade does not sharpen. As a first step, clean the sharpening steel, if this has never been done before. The best way to clean sharpening steels is to rinse them under running water with a brush made of plastic and a microfiber cloth. Caution! Do not use a metal brush! I'm ashamed to say that I stole a Victorinox pocket knife when I was a very naughty 11 year old. I'm 64 now and still using it... bit too late to give it back.
I had a motor mount break on a boat in the Gulfstream. I was able to cut a piece of wood out of a cabinet, and fashion a temporary fix to get us home. It happened in 1978. I was bringing a load of cannabis to back to Florida. Made it home because of my Victorinox SwissChamp SOS. I've never gone out on the water, without it.
You should never need a 360 grit stone unless you are reprofiling the edge. When I got my spartan brand new with a blunt main and secondry blade I sharpened both up to a razors edge within 2 minutes using 3000grit stropping compound.

Those pull through type sharpeners remove an awful lot of material from the blades, I guess it's OK in an emergency but I prefer my worksharp precision adjust elite sharpener to get that mirror finish on my swiss army knives. Will shave at ease.
I only have 17 victorianox knives in my collection. At this minute i have two in my pockets. A Ranger and an Explorer in order to have all the tools i want. I have a Swiss Champ on order. When i get it maybe I will only have to carry one knife. I can dream, cant I?

@@brokenbeyondrepairx I've been testing it on a Victorinox Spartan from the early 1980s and it really sharpens well. The problem is that you have to be careful because you scratch the surface of the blade, it is difficult to find the exact angle of the edge. I would recommend covering the blade with paper tape and painting the bevel of the edge with permanent marker to check if you are going in the right direction. Hug and patience, practice makes perfect. 🖐🏻💪🏻

A quick way to sharpen but Im not a fan of pull through, props however as this sharpener is specifically made for the swiss army knife. I use a dmt stone, strop, or a pocket puck sharpener to get my knives usable. Love my Evo wood

Alumina ceramic is Awesome 17 degrees is pretty good for in the kitchen 20 to 25 degrees for field dressing 30 degrees for harder work tomahawks axe hatchet and if you're keen to learn check out the boy's from DBK KNIVES they are pretty much everywhere these days but you will learn heaps specially about some of the best steel's on the planet today Promise high performance steel's ROCK but its all about the heat treatment

The ceramic sharpener always puts scratches on the blade. I don't even see how it's doing it, but it's messed up a couple of knives and made me put the sharpener in a drawer.
If scratches on your blade are bothersome, try tape on the blade before sharpening. Or just sand the blade and scratch it up real good and you wont notice them. 👍
@@arronjohnston742 Wasn't actually referring to you, sometimes you use what you got. Diamond plate, carborundum, ceramic, oil stone, water stone, bottom of a dinner plate, edge of a car window, etc...
It depends for what you need it. If you go for camping or to the forest making a fire, the Victorinox Huntsman will be good. You have two blades, scissors and a saw (very sharp) for wood. This model exists in red but also in Army style. And if you find any time the alox model (original former soldier's knive with the year on blade) then buy it. It will never brake. Mine is from 1985 and still working..
Actualy first the V shape for reprofileing your edge and than the rod....... after the rod for me it is always sharper than after the V shape that is just ruining the sharp what i made with the rod

I have been sharpening all of my small knives (swiss army included) with a scrap sandpaper for years....no need for expensive or destructive sharpeners.
That is just how Victorinox blades are. You may have to sharpen a bit more frequently than other brands. That being said, I have sliced through cardboard boxes for several months and not had to sharpen my Trekker.

If you are going to show someone using your sharpening tools at least make sure they are not an amateur sharpener. That technique was full of mistakes that will eventually ruin the blade. Overall, a misleading commerical to promote bad sharpening techniques with inadequate tools...

Just remember that sharpening takes time, dozens and dozens of strokes, not two or three.

Victorinox diamond then ceramic files are the best for small (under10cm) blades. and the steel of Victorinox tools is easy to sharpen.
Not sure about the serrated blades, every time I open one I lose a finger.
Better if they changed the blade material.

It depends for what you need it. If you go for camping or to the forest making a fire, the Victorinox Huntsman will be good. You have two blades, scissors and a saw (very sharp) for wood. This model exists in red but also in Army style.
And if you find any time the alox model (original former soldier's knive with the year on blade) then buy it. It will never brake. Mine is from 1985 and still working..
Actualy first the V shape for reprofileing your edge and than the rod....... after the rod for me it is always sharper than after the V shape that is just ruining the sharp what i made with the rod

Cutting paper is the quickest way to take the edge off your knife.
I’ve never worked with Victorinox but I’ve spent a good portion of my life trying to sharpen cheap Swiss Army knives and it seems to be impossible.
It feel like they sharpen then get dull for zero reason in 5 mins even if you dont use it
vx ones will get as sharp as any knife. wouldn't use the methods shown here personally, but whatever works for you

I have been sharpening all of my small knives (swiss army included) with a scrap sandpaper for years....no need for expensive or destructive sharpeners.
Using spyderco sharpener looks much easier 😅

I would buy a victinox blade if they were higher in carbon, in my country all Victinox blades are soft stainless steel
That is just how Victorinox blades are. You may have to sharpen a bit more frequently than other brands. That being said, I have sliced through cardboard boxes for several months and not had to sharpen my Trekker.

If you are going to show someone using your sharpening tools at least make sure they are not an amateur sharpener. That technique was full of mistakes that will eventually ruin the blade. Overall, a misleading commerical to promote bad sharpening techniques with inadequate tools...
