Would love if he could make a sword, deffo sharp and flexible.
@@hu4ngming Hey there, thanks for the info. May I check with you if 郭师傅 has a video on that? I really need to know this, please. I had a dream some time back, that there was someone climbing up a ladder made of blades, and up there he was doing some prayer. There was a table with statue covered in red cloth? I can't remember the details. In the dream, I was curious and I tried to go near, and the man turned and told me: "you're not supposed to be here". The dream ended there and I woke up. Then I dreamt about him again another night, with the same details. I get to stay a bit longer this time, and I think he was telling me that he needed permission to use the bones, before he turned around and told me: "why are you here again?". The dream ended at this point and I woke up. When I read your reply, I can't help but remember this. Before this I keep thinking that I saw some video that leads to the dream, and I tried to look for the video alike with no success. Thank you for taking time to read this.
There's something about a Jian that's just so beautiful to me. I've watched this video probably 5 times now and never get tired of seeing the craftsmanship that went into it.
how about instead of shouting what we want them to do and shout what they HAVE to make. lets just take a moment and say that they do a great job and it all looks very awesome. the comments section is flooded with people crying out for them to do stuff.
+Achw3l yes! we need more guys that actually compliment the work rather than requesting another one. this sword is gorgeous over the top! you guys outdid yourself again
Holy shit guys, bravo. That was probably one of the best episodes. The sword and jade was absolutely stunning and kudos to the camera/editing team for the new angles and slow-mo shots ^^
Of all the many pieces I've seen this shop make I have to say that THIS is my favorite one. The sheer amount of skill that went into making this piece alone was a thing to behold but then the end result is absolutely lovely.
Holy freakin shit. He HAND CUT the jade AND HAND CARVED on it that piece. That looks like a fucking boss at work, I mean id pay good money just to see him do that again that was amazing GJ!
Oh hey! Damn you actually wrote back! Man this was amazing to watch you are extremely talented!!! I don't have a lot of time on my hands to watch videos these days but sure as hell this was fun to watch on a lunch break, it's always nice to see the dedication you out in to this build and I just wanted to show my appreciation for such fine craftsmanship. You told dude you and all the AWE me team!
+NJ Avrg. Thanks. I try to pop in when I can, answer any questions on my carving participation parts. We always appreciate the feedback and that you enjoy what we do! Rock On!!
The Master who made the sword for the movie's usage used human bones (praying and asked for permission), then clamped iron around the steel (DK what number), to emulate our arms (flesh wrapped around the bones).. Hope it value adds 🙏
I hope this isn't true, as a straight sword like Jian will need the stiffness to properly function. A flexible sword is great for training and demonstrating fajin. However, if you stabbed and the sword flexes, then all that energy will just be wasted flexing(and possibly breaking) the sword rather than it going to puncturing the target.
@ComocosonoEWL Not quite metal clubs. That myth was created because knights wore full armors(only for a short time in history but that's a whole another story) and people thought knights would use their swords to bash away. Which turns out to be false as knights had actual smashing weapons(think mace, axe, and etc.). The swords were side arms for the most part used to cut, slice, and stab. So think smashing to cut like an axe, slice like you would when cutting with a kitchen knife, and stab like... well just stab. Depending on the design of the sword you would do one of the three more than the others. In the case of the jian it would be stab.
@@jaskey Whippy swords are more of a modern wushu thing. I agree it would limit a blade functionality to stab. That whippyness was more historically seen in wider and longer two handed cutting oriented swords and never too that degree.
Hi Matt and Crew Fantastic build. You guys should really be inducted in the Hall of Fame for Sword making!! I always look forward to watching your videos. Thank you so much for entertaining us, every time. Regards Gerann
Without a doubt the best combination of smithing and lapidary carving I have ever seen. Jade is no joke it's very slow and delicate work, amazing patience and skill.
but do the one handed version, i think its easier, cheaper and not so big as the two handed one, i feel if you do the two handed, its going to troublesome and too big or heavy and you cant wield it properly.
Holy shit.. This sword is so beautiful! I would have liked another close up on the blade in the reveal to really see the etching, but damn. You guys really outdid yourselves with this one. Good luck topping this for awhile.
+Ps2eterno Would be fun if they were actually usable as well. I like the huge builds that they make, but having usable weapons is in my opinion even more interesting.
This was the most beautiful piece i have seen yet. It holds a special place for me not because it is the Green destiny, but because I wondered how my own sword was made. It is still my pride to this day.
Okay...kind of an ignorant question; but, I've been wondering for awhile now. What exactly is that borax they(and other smiths) use; what's its purpose?
It's a chemical that removes the air from in between the layers of steel when they forge weld the layers to create a solid weld so they're are no holes in the steel which would ruin the blade.
Sodium tetraborate Na2B4O7 but common salt or fine silica sand can also be used as flux. Importance is to melt around 600-800 deg C and cover the metal surface to prevent it from oxidizing. Hot steel oxidizes very fast and the oxide layer will prevent good welding.
It's not the air, but the iron oxides that form on the steel when it is hot that they want to get rid of with the borax. The iron oxides get in the way of the steels going through solid state diffusion (forge welding). The borax acts as an oxygen barrier, preventing oxygen from reaching the steel, thus the steel does not oxidize. It also lowers the melting point of the iron oxides and forms a solution of borax and the oxides, thus they both get squeezed out from the gaps in the billet, resulting in a good forge weld. Gotta love youtube comments.
Men at Arms (or should I say AWE Me?) I am a relatively old fan (even though I haven't subscribed until recently) and I love you videos and hsve shared them with all of my friends!! It it truly amazing to see you transform metal (be it steel plates, a sheet of aluminum, or even a bin full of scissors!) into a elegant sword, a legendary sheild, and even a giant scissor blade! There is one sword I would love to see you make (or rather, one of two swords) They are the rider's blade Brisinger! (from Christopher Paolini's book series The Inheritance Cycle) And/or The rider's blade Zar-Rac (also from The Inheritance Cycle). I have always wanted to see either one of these blades as actual blacksmith's impressions of the swords, and not as movie props. (By the way, I am talking about the book versions, not the movie versions) I hope You read this comment and consider making either one of these. Regards, EagleFlyer
good damn job. the carvings so beautiful. i would love to see another type of swords or weapons like no dachi, estoc, naginata, halberd etc please make chosokabe motochika's anchor spear from sengoku basara series
Blade wasn't full 1080+ like most swords they make. Had it been thinner by virtue of higher carbon resistance they might have been able to actually grind the whole thing even, paint the etchings and do a hard angle sharpening. After all this thing is supposed to be paper thin.
+VV_ Antares yeah I just noticed it the green on the blade is missing.for me this sword is the most harder than others sword they ever made. hard to forge all the detail. I would rate 79% -should be thin, color missing, should be a bit lighten and flexible perhaps. but it was a great epic work guys thumb up
Unfortunately this one looked slightly rushed. Especially the paint job on the grip, and there is no green/black shade behind the dragons on the blade, to add background contrast to their silhouettes (the original had this). The guard and pommel - peen block look good though, pretty great job on that jade, and I do like the striations on the blade itself even though they didn't appear on the original as far as I remember. But the main thing is, the flexibility. This is too much of a traditional sword, the main point of the Green Destiny was how thin the blade was, requiring immense control to avoid having it bend and cut yourself, but also allowing it to cut through other metal and swords with ease. It was almost as thin as an Urumi blade (infamous sword-whips of India).
I want to see an Ilya spirit of the blacksmith sword. Forged with locks of his hair, an original. So if you want to kill his ghost you have to find and destroy his sword.
OMG, just found this video. *So incredible*, I'm blown away… I want to see more of this sword! I also *want this sword*, but that's not ever gonna happen I think! 😅 But all in all, such an amazing episode, and very cool to see Scott Rodell doing a few cuts with it-you couldn't have chosen anyone better suited for this!
Your group is amazing! I wish you would have shown the blade going into and out of the acid fr the etch. The ladder pattern looks perfect! And the blade art is beautiful.
+Rich Baker Er... you mean the totally useless sword that has a break in the middle of the blade? I don't see any self-respecting black-smiths taking a serious crack at that sword - without magic or something to hold it together, the design itself is fundamentally flawed.
+Chris V seeing as how their swords are made to be ornamental more than functional, i don't see why a flawed blade wouldn't be made by them, heck this blade is flawed, they didn't temper the tip of it so it's more susceptible to break off. A flawed blade can still be an excellent blade if used as a ornamental one.
+Swagodactyll Exactly! Plus, how "functional" are some of these giant blades or other fantasy pieces? They made the gunblade for crying out loud! Hell, I'd be up for ordering it as a commission piece if needed.
Er, this sword is very beautiful, but it doesn't look like the Green Destiny nor does it function like a jian(4). This is more like somewhat older Chinese warswords, although those would be 2-handed.
I like the blade part of the sword but I thought the white paint on the handle looked a little sloppy as far is it not being smoothed out - you guys do excellent work so im sorry to nitpick such fine craftsmanship but when everything else is perfect the handle stood out. And question: wouldnt jade easily break if another sword hit it - since thats what the handle is designed for (i.e. to prevent another blade from sliding down cutting one's hand)?
Corvo's sword: Dishonored; The Crucible: DOOM; Blade of Olympus: God of War; Silver Dragon knife: Far Cry 3; Mace of Molag Bol: Skyrim; Grappling Hook: Just Cause
actually one of my fellows learning wudang in china once told me that the green destiny has as thine slab of pure platinum such away that the whole blade like sword can show 1order overtone on a quick hand shaking.
How often do you guys go through one of those holding rods you weld onto the billet? Heating and cooling constantly plus cutting the billet off, does that use up the rod?
Hi was wondering when you are forging how long does the metal stay hot enough to work i would imagine that you get longer with the folds at the start than when you are drawing it out love the show illiya has some serious skill
the moment when Ilya pulls the sword from the quenching tank, slow mo smoke, thats just magic ...wow
He is magical.
The advanced level of craftmanship in these artisans are ethereal!

Sam lighting that fluffy torch 🤣😂 I want more videos with him in it. He has such a cool personality.
I request it every new episode, but you guys should make the twin warglaives of Azzinoth from Warcraft/World of Warcraft
Nice. I'd like see you guys make Connor/Ramirez's or Duncan's Macleod or both katanas from Highlander.
Matt Simunovich I would like to see them make the rapier Duncan gave Ritchie on the show.
How about Brisingr, Eragon's Sword from the last books of the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
I like the blade part of the sword but I thought the white paint on the handle looked a little sloppy as far is it not being smoothed out - you guys do excellent work so im sorry to nitpick such fine craftsmanship but when everything else is perfect the handle stood out. And question: wouldnt jade easily break if another sword hit it - since thats what the handle is designed for (i.e. to prevent another blade from sliding down cutting one's hand)?
make the most efficient and sharp sword you can. Function prioritized.
I much prefer cutting the mats and stuff. It shows the sharpness of the blade much better.
Corvo's sword: Dishonored; The Crucible: DOOM; Blade of Olympus: God of War; Silver Dragon knife: Far Cry 3; Mace of Molag Bol: Skyrim; Grappling Hook: Just Cause
+MISTER TORGUE Corvo's sword seconded
Mace of molag bal
actually one of my fellows learning wudang in china once told me that the green destiny has as thine slab of pure platinum such away that the whole blade like sword can show 1order overtone on a quick hand shaking.
Kutaro's Scissor Sword from Puppeteer
Rose's Sword and Sheild from Steven Universe.
YESSS
I would really like to see them pull that off
+Shane Terran I'ma find this every time someone suggests it, thumb it up, and say YES PLEASE.
YES STEVEN FTW
+Shane Terran I didn't realize I needed this until now
There's a movie on these blacksmiths

Absolutely beautiful. What an amazing display of well polished skills and discipline. Spectacular!!
Gotta make sure these guys survive in a zombie apocalypse!
They must have entire barrels filled with swords at this point. I'm sure they can handle themselves.
what you want to do is hang out with these guys during zombie apocalypse..
@@cainshin6702 *before
So you have insurance during the zombie apocalypse. Maybe even some gifts.
Am I the Only one here that says Great Job on the Green Destiny!
But it's only available in supply drops!
OH SHIT! Wrong comment section...
+T_H_E_O_N_E___ Lol
How often do you guys go through one of those holding rods you weld onto the billet? Heating and cooling constantly plus cutting the billet off, does that use up the rod?
13:50 I live for these moments
