I have to say I envy you in a very good way. I've never had such a relationship with my father, even when I moved to another country I was happy now I am far away from him. Never had that kind of mentor in my life but I am gonna make sure my future kids don't go through the same. Great video, Nathaniel. Love seeing you with your dad. Saludos desde Mexico hermanito.
Lamento escuchar eso, también aprendemos de nuestros padres a no repetir sus acciones. Proba usar te admiro en vez de te envidio, yo cambie eso y lo veo de una forma mucho mas positiva! Saludos
I would say the same about my mum or my dad. I've never had such a close relationship with them or having them as my mentors or a good example to follow. I would definitely say that it has to do with their mentality, how our parents grow up and in which conditions (I assume you were born in Russia, I was born in Russia, too, and lived in Ukraine for 11 years). URSS's countries mentality is pretty rough and tough and everything seems to be a struggle and life is hard, there's no time to think about happiness but about survival and a better life (at least, according to my parents). That's why I'm so different from them, I don't expect them to understand me or to be my mentors since we're just so different that it's just impossible to understand each other on a deeper level. Saludos desde Suecia!
Same thing happened to me. And I must say that my life became much better when I accepted my father When I took all negative things and memories I had in me about him and turned them into positive experience We have a lot of things in life we can't control. But we can control our attitude to it.
I love your dad's perspective on life. He's so laid back, but at the same time very optimistic when things don't work out. Such a great way to live life to the fullest.
Happiness is just another state of being. As humans, we have to accept the fact that we are multi emotional beings. The clinging to one state of being is what causes suffering.
I prefer being peaceful with myself rather than happiness. I still feel my heart is in chaos but Im slowly finding peace within myself. Meditation really helps
A therapist told me that happiness is an emotional like any other, and because of that if you make just happiness a goal you'll never truly succeed. But things like mindfulness, staying present, working and living in alignment with your values, things like that will help you build a life that can bring you happiness
Love the way you combine these travel films with a meaningful message in almost a vlog format??? It is so fresh and unique and amazing to watch. Thank you for always being an inspiration ❤️❤️❤️

Wow, seeing your dad's face when he was in the hot spring (was that a hot spring?) when he was talking about how heavenly it was, made my own chest expand with emotion. Just watching his joy was lovely; I played it over and over. Thank you for sharing that moment!
I just found myself found in a hole… 2 days before my holiday is over I realise I’m having a hard time enjoying myself, being happy, scared of if it being over, of happiness being over, of becoming older, my youth someday being over, everything being over without having been able to enjoy any of it and then regretting everything This Really Really Helped Thank you oh god so much.
this really was what I needed to hear. you make it so clear and simple. I would just add that attachment is also related to our comfort zone and if we don't ever leave that comfort zone, we won't feel as alive as we actually can - which is such a waste. I really need to learn from this video and, most of all, apply it.
You and your dad look like two goofy happy-go-lucky kids living the time of their lives and I love it! Hahah and your excitement seeing a bunch of goats just staring at you two 😂😂 that was definitely the highlight! Great video Nathaniel! 💖
MY QUOTE OF THE DAY "Unhappiness is wishing that things were another way. Purpose, on the other hand, is about finding meaning making sense of how things are"
When the video started I was like "how did Nethaniel got 20 years older?!" You & your dad are EXACTLY the same! The voice, the face, body language, life views.... He is definitely your father....
I think it's also important to remember that happiness is a journey, not a destination. And that you can't be happy all the time. You don't really know what it's like to be happy until you know what it's like to be unhappy. And the more mindful you are, the more you can control these sways of emotions. Love the content!
Watching your videos help stop the negative mental loops. I love how your dad doesn’t force the idea of happiness, but to just “experience everything and roll with the punches.” That’s a lesson I’m still learning. Thanks for always putting out positive, yet realistic, content :)
Several Muslim scholars have said: When you are given be grateful, when you go through trials be patient and when you sin, seek forgiveness and these are the tenets of happiness.
Wonderful video with thoughtful and helpful words on how to alter our way of thinking and reactions to be more positive and joyful. I worked hard in my younger years to become the positive thinker I am, but still need reminders to alter negative reactions when they pop in. Thank you for this beautiful video! I watched because I met you Dad when we worked on a project together more than 20 years ago. I thought him an amazing man then and am very happy to see he has raised and incredible son in yourself and you can enjoy these memorial hour use together! Very special. I am going to forward this to my 2 adult children. Thanks!
I imagine you get more chance than most at moments of happiness. Just being able to afford to travel to some of the most beautiful parts of the planet and take in the awesomeness of those places is a blessing. I have no money, I can’t seem to improve my circumstances and I am stuck in a concrete jungle of a place to live. I have responsibilities, debts and life is a drudge. I long to find enough moments of happiness within each dreary day but it is a challenge
Accepting reality as it is and not worrying about things that we can't change, plus being grateful for what we have, I think, is a big part of happiness. Btw, Iceland looks like such a magical place!
If you can't stand emotional pain, don't ever become close to anyone ever. They'll die or leave or change. Or accept that life is about suffering too. Your parents will grow old and decrepid, your children will disappoint you, your friends will betray you. Etc. Just accept that these things happen. Stop trying to control everything beyond your control. Be grateful to be alive.
This video is therapy Nathaniel! Much like most of your videos. The idea of reaching happiness without forcing it, or imposing expectations seems so logical, yet it’s so incredibly difficult for most of us to just be and find joy in being. It’s lovely to see you approach happiness in a more effortless way. It’s also inspiration for all of us too. Beautiful work! 👏🏽👏🏽
The relationship between you and your dad is so beautiful to watch, seeing this I realized what I missed out on... You are both incredible people. Keep it up. :)
I think there is a difference between joy and happiness? Even the look of the words infers a variance - ‘joy’ is solidly anchored on three letters, while ‘happiness’ gleefully runs along 9 letters, repeating some letters with abandon. Happiness is a euphoric state that comes and whips up our emotions, allowing them to soar for a time, but then releases them to some other sensation. Whereas joy is a deep-seated, solid state of being that allows you to dwell in a secure state of substance. Acceptance does produce something more solid in my emotions. I call joy a God-given state is not swept away or challenged by unreliable sensations that can ripple through you day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment - it lingers. I enjoy your videos ... I hope you revisit them when you need them.
The fact that expectations make us anxious is one of the best things I could say to myself when feeling down, please my friend keep up with the good work!
🤭 Every time I’ve tried to communicate that exact phrase (“ happiness is so overrated”) people look blankly at me, as if I were some weird vegetable from Jupiter. How perfect that you saw these things in Iceland, a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I’ll be watching this video many times, my friend. Thank you 🙏🏼🌹 ps - How lucky you are to have this soul for your DAD! I’m so envious!!
I've been watching your videos for a while now (so I don't know how I missed this), but just realized your videos have spanish captions, which totally makes sense given language learning is one of the many recurring topics on your channel. As someone who's trying to learn spanish, I found this super useful and engaging for learning new vocabulary and expressions in spanish! Definitely something unique to your channel and a great resource for language learners!
Nathaniel, your smile is beautiful, your happiness is palpable. What a fun and rewarding trip with Dad! Thanks for sharing your insights with us,...blessings all around.
This was beautiful! Loved hearing your dad’s wisdom, such great interviews with the locals on their thoughts (very insightful) and amazing title animations too!

“Unhappiness is wishing that things were another way” simple, but true. Love seeing your relationship with your dad. Expectations around relationships is an area I tend to butt my head against. We’re all so complex 😀. I suppose it comes down to knowing your own needs and setting healthy boundaries. Lovely video!
This is one of your best videos, an incredible journey and very profound thoughts on happiness, plus your dad is so funny, you guys seem to be such good friends it’s lovely to see it!
Thank you for the beautiful scenery in Iceland, a place that I've always wanted to see. Your thoughts on joy and attachment are astute. Looking forward to your next post.

There are so many serene scenes. Combine serenity with eye-candy and you get this video! This video is so well made. I enjoyed watching it! Key moments for me 1. Unhappiness is wishing things were another way 2. Do not take happiness at face value.
Such a good video I couldn’t stop smiling something about you and your dad have such a so real experience together with happiness and nature. Is nice to watch.
'Unhappiness is wishing things were another way.' I felt those words - straight to the marrow. Time to reconfigure my thought process...and to accept and flow with it or away.
This video really hit me. This is exactly what I have been experiencing recently. Putting expectation on certain things happening in a certain timeframe and being so frustrated with other things poping up and not allowing me to do the things as planned. And the thing is ok I wasn't happy doing the other things but me being so caught onto the ideas of how my time should look like just made me so much more miserable in comparison then if I were to just accept things as they were and still enjoy my time. Being stuck with my idea of how things should look like is definitely something that I need to work on unlearning.
Your dad is so amazing and from watching you two interact you clearly have an amazing relationship. I am so happy for you that you have such an amazing family, I can tell where you get your wisdom and amazingness from x
Nathaniel, thank you for this video! As someone who is currently dealing with health problems and all the unhappiness that brings with it, especially the part of attachment hit right in the feels. In a good kinda way. Thank you for sharing your journey of figuring out life.
That happiness serie is soo good!! I'm smiling during the entire video everytime 😂😂😂 And his dad has an amazing youthful energy! Such a refreshing video!!
This video has come out at the perfect time for me. I have been doing so much thinking on these themes and also realised that you can never be happy if you are always thinking about what you should or could be doing ! Thank you so much
You have a very sweet relationship with your father. It's nice to see this come through in how you speak to each other. Beautiful video, felt transported to Iceland :) - thanks for sharing!
Your dad is too cool.....the perfect trade buddy! I absolutely love the video. But it also got me wondering....how do you stay 'open' and still follow your purpose without getting attached? How do we achieve our goals if we're not committed or attached to them? would love to hear what you think :))
Something that has helped me is to realize the difference between de-tachment and non-attachment. We should care, and work at what we care about, but not have our identity and self-worth caught up in a certain thing being attained or kept. Hold with an open hand, not a closed fist.
Having a great relationship with your dad is a good reason to be happy - its also one of the reasons that you are such a nice, vital and well adjusted person (I would say)
Wow I loved and needed this reminder about joy/ happiness. I have definitely experienced feeling too attached to an idea of how things should be and then letting it go and feeling relief and/or actually being able to take in a moment and be happy. Thank you for this 🙏🏼
Watching your videos and learning from you - that's one of the many things that make me happy. It's so true that attachment keeps us from experiencing so many great things.
14:42 this is actually very valuable lol ! What I took from your video : Unhappiness is wishing things were another way. Purpose on the other hand is about finding meaning, making sense of how things are. Let things happen. Let go of your expectations. That's how you end up having a good time. Very well put from both of you, and so important to not get stuck on feelings of disappointment. It has always been a really big deal for me, as well as enjoying the process and not get stuck on this mindset of "I'll be happy once I will be there / have stability, ect" . I feel like it also make a lot of sense regarding relationships, to a certain extent. Also, your dad is precious. Protect him at all costs! :)
That was wonderful!!!🇮🇸 What a special treat to take this journey with your dad and share it with us. I'm in awe of the very idea that there are fathers who are spiritual, introspective and so wonderfully chill. It's a pleasure to witness and I'm so happy you both came together for this Father Son adventure. ❤️🕊️✨
Your trip with your dad makes me want to plan one out with mine. It looks like you have deepened your bond with your father even more than it already was. I would like to experience the same with mine.
So fortunate for you, that you can have meaningful conversations about existence with your Dad, I would do anything to have my parents back and to have similar conversations with them. Thank you for such a beautiful, insightful video. x
I could notice so many similarities between the two of you; hand gestures, the way you speak, mannerisms, gestures, micro-expressions, movement, body, style... :) Such a cool dad you have, I can see you picked up a lot from him.
I love you guys!! Nathaniel's messages always uplift my heart and the way I can describe it is like my soul breathing a sigh of content. I hope to one fly away soon and see the world the way that I want to, and the way that you do too.
"Unhappiness is wishing that things were another way", it is very true, and it's the reason why we can't just live for happiness, because sometimes we do need to accept things but others things aren't supposed to be as they are, and we need to act to change them according to our values and authenticity. But first, we need to acknowledge and accept we are unhappy.
I feel like the best way to have consistent happiness is through the practice of Stoicism which is very similar to the things you described in the video. I'm learning myself. I'm glad you're enjoying your time with your dad
I agreed even with the first words that were said in the video about not forcing situations to be good. I fell into that "trap" before about desiring things to be "better", but later realized that things were actually better for me how they already were!
Does anyone even noticed how Nathaniel's video have gotten so much better and thorough in terms of : a. Overall shots quality (composition, smoothness of movement, overall texture/look/feel) b. DEM MOTION DESIGN BOYYY!! Sick as hell! On every video I find myself surprised on how complex, cinematic and good your visual effects are. The titles, graphics, glow effects, everything looks just so nice! Do you do it yourself or do you hire someone else to do it? Anyhow, great work! Much respect - keep it on Nathaniel! 👍 Yours truly, Adrien
❤️ this video and you and your Dad’s relationship. I have a motto: “ I would prefer ______ and I’m willing to accept whatever life brings”. It has helped me to be less anxious and sad when things don’t go my way.

Nathaniel, thank you for this video! As someone who is currently dealing with health problems and all the unhappiness that brings with it, especially the part of attachment hit right in the feels. In a good kinda way. Thank you for sharing your journey of figuring out life.
You and your dad sharing these moments made me so happy ❤️ I love Iceland, this video is amazing
Thank you so much
The young kid nailed it... a sense of purpose... no matter what country you find yourself in... : )
Commitment and attachment aren’t the same thing 😉
Something that has helped me is to realize the difference between de-tachment and non-attachment. We should care, and work at what we care about, but not have our identity and self-worth caught up in a certain thing being attained or kept. Hold with an open hand, not a closed fist.
Having a great relationship with your dad is a good reason to be happy - its also one of the reasons that you are such a nice, vital and well adjusted person (I would say)
I adore your father so much, he has so much wisdom and kindness in him. He is a wonderful role model to have
I find that whenever I am struggling it does indeed have to do with expectations. Thanks for this video, it is beautiful! ❤️
I went to Iceland in June. You my friend did an amazing job of capturing the beauty. My lawd what an amazing place
Thanks your video always calms me down
Man, your videos make me feel so good. Just gives me more enthusiasm to travel the world. Saludos desde Argentina!
Your trip with your dad makes me want to plan one out with mine. It looks like you have deepened your bond with your father even more than it already was. I would like to experience the same with mine.
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you so much for sharing this and for doing what you do. Looking forward to the next video!
I love your collaboration with Tom Fox. Excellent music! I listen to it as often as I can.
Does anyone even noticed how Nathaniel's video have gotten so much better and thorough in terms of :
a. Overall shots quality (composition, smoothness of movement, overall texture/look/feel)
Yours truly,
Adrien
❤️ this video and you and your Dad’s relationship. I have a motto: “ I would prefer ______ and I’m willing to accept whatever life brings”. It has helped me to be less anxious and sad when things don’t go my way.
