It's because the game still thinks you're on Disk 1. Not in terms of "Game Moment", but in terms of "Disk Check". When a movie is loaded, it is done so via an index value. The third movie on Disk 3 is supposed to play out as your descending, but because the game thinks you're on Disk 1, it plays the third movie from that Disk (Reactor 1 exploding). Had you been on Disk 2, then it would play the movie at the end of the Whirlwind Maze where everything comes crashing down. When you then went on to load up map #765 ("las4_2"), the default "2nd" movie won't play, as the disk check is reading incorrectly, so it plays the default second movie from Disk 1 - The reactors entrance. If "Disk Check" had read you as being on Disk 2, then the movie you would see would be the one at the top of Gaea's Cliffs, where we see "The Promised Land" for the first time. -EDIT- it's worth pointing out also, that even though you're playing on the Steam version that doesn't use disks, it still records the value of the disk you're supposed to be on in the "Disk Check" variable. The only time it's set is when you start the game ("1"), get past "that bit" in The Forgotten Capitol ("2"), and you finish the Highwind scene after Midgar ("3). There are only four instances where "Disk Check" is called upon - when you start a new game, when you load a game, when you reach the end of a Disk, and when a movie is played. In the Steam (and PS4) version, only the latter is used (obviously). Even in the Steam version, the movies are accessed in the exact same way as the PSX version, meaning there are three different videos with an index value of "0", one for each disk. the game first looks at "Disk Check" and then selects the correct video bank ("1", "2" or "3"), then looks at the index value and choose accordingly. That's what happens when you switch to a different disc before a movie is loaded. You can also do it on disc 1, like when Barrett and the others swing down from the collapsing pillar, if you put in disc 2 or 3, it'll show him swinging by with a different cutscene going on in the background.
hey man i really like ur stuff, im not a big youtuber (i dont sub much/watch alot) but i will be subbing to you! my only thing i ask, or maybe i should say it as constructive criticism ? the biggest offput about you/this channel was your videos on the Nightmare mod and completely ignoring all of the text. i know you've read this from a few other people, but i think your viewers would really like to see what it has to say. other then that, you are great at what you do and i will be watching all of your future videos uploaded to here, and hell, i might even watch you when you stream! just a loyal viewer tossing in my 2 cents, not trying to just be an ass. keep up the good FFVII WORK :)
