Interesting styles of entry. Conservative Nigel walks on quietly with his hands behind his back then folded in front, and bows. Eubank struts up with a swagger, ridiculous glasses and gives a thumbs-up to himself...and reduces Nigel to a 'business obstacle.' Gotta like Nigel tho. His offer of "Here's a few quid mate" was bloody smart and tooo funny. Great bloke.
What i cant understand is why Benn was getting 1million and Eubank 750k when Eubank won their first fight. Have i missed something? Eubank had WBO Title and Benn WBC Surely its 50-50 purse split.
Benn had the top-of-the-top title that’s why. The WBO belt wasn’t even really recognised and taken seriously in England and America. It was okly just around thsh time, the belt was starting to be taken seriously. The WBC belt Benn had. In the heavyweight division for example, that’s the belt Mike Tyson, Ali, Lennox Lewis etc had. So, Benn was putting the far bigger valuable prize on the line, hence he commanded more money. Does this answer your question. Albeit 3 years belated/late.
@@jasonprendergast7493 Yes! Excellent answer. So the we be crooks belt took priority. I always thought the WBC didnt count according to one James Toney who said we dont even count that...my bad
The rivalry between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank in British boxing is meteoric. I don't feel the same way for the rivalry between Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.
He used to hang around with some nasty people too, one person who used to walk him into the ring 'tony tucker' was gunned down with two men in a deserted lane in Essex, (the Essex boys retenden murder case) he also admits to being a Satanist in them days too. He's a born again Christian now though. But probably wasn't a very nice bloke at the time.
I personally hated Eubank but if I had to give an honest opinion I think he could have destroyed Benn in the rematch if he'd have been determined to enforce himself from the start of their second fight. The problem was that Eubank had vowed never to knock out another opponent after what he'd done to Michael Watson for fear of causing them permanent damage, he much rather preferred taking them the distance and winning points decisions. Eubank never lost via KO or TKO and had a granite like chin which even Benn, one of the hardest punchers ever, could never hurt! Such a pity Eubank didn't go for any more knockouts as I'm sure Benn would have been on the canvas again. Why didn't they fight a third time?
+gary rasch Fair enough you're right but the penultimate fight did go the distance against Carl thompson and he did floor him early on but didn't follow through to finish him off probably( as i've alreday said) not to cause dangerous injury like he did to Mwatson. Sorry for not stating facts ...you obviously know better than me!
+nicky29031977 Not at all Nicky you're right to a degree he wasn't actually KO or TKO'd but it will go down as a KO or TKO loss in many record books, sorry if I came across as pedantic or smug. Take care.
nicky29031977 I think you have written nonsense. I had Benn clearly winning the second fight. The reason why Eubank never went after Benn was that Eubank admitted Benn hurt him the most out of any fighter he fought. Benn had heavier hands than Eubank. Had Eubank gone looking for Benn, Benn would have stopped him IMO. The Watson fight would never had happened if the right decision had been made in the first Eubank-Watson fight, where the decision was stolen from Watson. In the second, Watson dominated, won every round and KD Eubank. Both of them were exhausted and Watson instead of easing off and giving himself a breather walked onto a Eubank uppercut and I think Watsons exhaustion and the whiplash of the KD with the ropes caused the unfortunate injuries. The judges who awarded Eubank his disgraceful decision in Eubank-Watson 1, should be the ones who should be blamed for what happened to Watson. Eubank had a great chin, but the rubbish thats written that Eubank could have taken Benn in the second fight is rubbish. Eubank received some of the most dubious decisions in boxing. Eubank was a clever man and knew that having continuous wars would shorten his career and selected opponents who were less than able.
Benn was brave never flinched and never backed off! Really TOugh But personally i prefer Eubank his attiude and cool temperament in the ring and his technicality as boxer he was so calculating!!! The most ring savvy by far out of the 2
