  • Come along with us as we traverse through the North Country trail in the lower peninsula of the mighty mitten state Michigan. Our journey was four days and three nights starting in near Baldwin, MI at the Bowman Trailhead. We covered about 70-80 miles of mostly mountain bike single track trail and a little bit of relief from some pavement and dirt roads. Our first camp site was 17.5 miles from the start at the beautifully secluded McCarthy lake rustic camp ground in Sauble Township, MI. We are not professionals by any means and we hope that this video can and will inspire those that are thinking about doing any overnight bikepacking trips but are apprehensive. We just used the mountain bikes we owned and gathered a few specific bags that would fit and loaded up. It was challenging, but oh so satisfying! I hope you guys enjoy episode one and I can not wait to get the following episodes finished! God bless!

It's nice to do bike packing but sometimes with multiple people you have to put up with riders that have very little concept of time were three hours late so let's stop for ice cream then at the end of the day you get to finish trail in the dark & set up camp Different strokes for different folks it's all good

Nice video! Hoping to do GR up the White Pine trail, later up to Mackinaw and maybe to Copper Harbor someday next Fall. Watching this video makes me think I need to bring my mountain bike, my gravel bike tires would be pretty dicey on those trails.

I really enjoyed having my mountain bike! We passed one gravel biker that was holding her own on the trial but she said that she wished that her MTB was available for her. They suggest 2.0 wide tires or bigger for this trail. We had a blast and hope to do it again soon! Thanks for watching!

Hey Scott, yeah I have been asked before to do that kind of video and I will make it a priority to get one in the works. In the mean time you should check out Pathlesspedeled. Russ will talk through all kinds of bikepacking and touring bikes and gear and you could watch his channel for days!

It was pretty crazy! By the fourth day I was pretty spent but man it was fun! I have not been able to do any bikepacking overnight stays but I have braved the cold weather a few times to get the legs pumping. lol

Is there a map of this trail? Is this a loop or is it point to point?

This is the route we based our route on but we only did about half of it. We started in Baldwin and ended near Mesick, Mi. At Marrilla trail head.

@@andrewraquepaw9878 awesome, looking to try out bikepacking this year and I've been considering NCT. Might do a trial over nighter at Green Lake campground/DTE foundation trails first before going for a multi-day trip.
