The timing of this video is perfect. In two weeks my wife and I will be staying at one of the rental cabins on the island for a couple of days and biking around the island. My wife's bike has tires that are rather narrow and are better suited for pavement/bike trail surfaces. They have decent tread but are narrow. I've been thinking about renting her a mountain bike from the ferry company. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Rent the mountain bike. There are parts where she would probably have to walk on skinny tires. The GoPro isn't showing that those rough descents/climbs are fairly steep too. ...and if it rains it would be real tough. Have fun!
You keep racking up the vacation plans I need to make! Thank you. I may have to start sending you travel agent fees. I do appreciate your historical notes. Keep it up!
Ha! Thanks! We've told Ben he should charge to plan routes for people. Erin, Ben an d I do make a good planning team together too - we all have our own strengths. I love the history stuff - need to work more into the vids.
I think I would like to come join you on a Sunday ride if possible after my rehab from hip replacement surgery Friday. You folks seem super cool! I am/was a runner for 40 yrs. Thank you for these videos! I think I found my motivation for rehab!
Tim it's pronounced Mewnising. Oddly enough I grew up about 40 miles from there but never went to Grand Island. I never saw Pictured Rocks either. Looks like another place to go if I ever get back up there. Good Video,
Cool video, I'm a Michigan native, I think it's great that you are discovering some of the amazing places we have here. Years ago a couple friends and I kayaked around Grand Island and camped along the way, it was quite an adventure. Great scenery anywhere you look. Was the town you stopped at in the lower peninsula on your way home, Gaylord by chance? They have a very cool city park with some great mountain bike trails there.
Yes - that is it - Gaylord. Hopefully we get back and have the chance to mountain bike... I know we will definitely be heading back to MI next year though -
Wow, you are absolutely killing it bro. Bikes, beers, beautiful scenery. I can't wait to get back there in a few weeks. Michigan native, thinking about moving back. Colorado is over man.
Thanks! It was an awesome trip. Really falling in love with Michigan! I haven't been to CO in a couple decades - so no real idea what it is like out there now - but I do love the mountains.
Hey Tim I’m curios to know how how long are you able to ride those up right swept back handlebars? I heard they’re comfortable for shorter rides but might be uncomfortable for longer rides? What are your thoughts?
I'm loving them. I was curious about missing the multiple hand positions of drops but we rode 5 long days in a row on tour in July and I loved them. I surprisingly like them a lot for long rides. I would still ride drops on a long ride that I wanted to go faster though....
It seems like day trips are what most people do. Our other Akron friends just did a day trip on their way up and same with the guys who recommended it to us. That being said if you went in the busy season it might be cool then to have the island more to yourself when everyone caught the last ferry at 6….
What kind of bike is that pink bike. I’ve been looking for a nice steel gravel bike with drop bars for my girlfriend and her only request is that it’s pink haha. Love your videos btw!
It’s funny because people do ask me those questions and I finally made a video naming the bikes! Erin bought it 50% because of the color and 50% because the owner of the brand is female.
Thanks Tim...all of your videos show people having a great time !
It would be tough not to have a great time in a pace like this! What a “hidden gem”.
O-Jib-a-Way
Thanks! After only reading it on signs I didn’t want to butcher it from memory.
Great scenic bike riding video ... thank you for sharing :)
Yeah! Was just super impressed by this place. Had no idea something in this region could be so cool & unique.
excellent trip. great summer.
Yeah - no complaints about this summer for sure.
Awesome video. Beautiful area. I'm glad you had a great time.
Thanks!
nice series. as we get older, we realize when the good time is over and it is wiser to just head for home. it doesn't take away from the amazing trip.
For sure! Thanks!
sick history lesson, thanks tim
Yeah - I'm a real nerd for it. Could go on and on....
Looks like a great time and awesome video as always!
Thanks! Yeah - it was fantastic!
Thanks for all the historical context you give about your rides :)
For sure - I'm a real nerd for it - should do it more.
another GREAT job, an enjoyable video, simply beautiful..
Thanks! It was a amazing there. To go to a place like that and be blown away was cool - maybe the “hidden gem” type places just wow us more.
I always enjoy your videos Tim. Thanks for taking me on another adventure!
For sure!
Oh wow [9:30] - I had a 74 Catalina 400 back in high school - total blast from the past
Rad! There were a number of cool old cars at that spot but I would have had to be creeping too much on private property.
Nice 👍. Great photos to round out the series too
Thanks! I need to remember to put more of my photos in my vids.

Thanks! Might be riding some of the spots in your recent vids in a couple weeks.

Good luck in the rehab! I used to be a runner too but switched solely to cycling because of back issues.
@@TimFitzwater: Thank you! If they could do this surgery right now, that would be super!

Ah - thanks for that - I was probably thinking like Munsing, IN. Yeah - definitely check it out if you ever get the chance!
Thanks!
Thanks Tim! Man crazy how blue the water is there! I've actually only seen one of the great lakes, Erie, when we visited Cleveland.
Lakes Michigan & Superior are next level. Erie has some pretty beaches but they aren't like this.

@@TimFitzwater Colorado is expensive, and crowded, with a bro-centric overly competitive bike culture. It was great 20-30 years ago.
Ah.
Was the town that looked like Little Switzerland called Frankenmuth by chance:)
It was Gaylord - I do think we went through or by Frankenmuth too though.

Could you go over in the morning and ride all day and catch the ferry back over? Or would that be too short of a time?
It seems like day trips are what most people do. Our other Akron friends just did a day trip on their way up and same with the guys who recommended it to us.

No mosquitos?
There were mosquitos at night - ok once we got the fire going.

I can’t seem to find any information about this discourse group. What is that?

Muuuasing. Is hows it pronounced
Upset there were not more bridge facts tbh
Don’t wanna blow my load on the bridge facts - gotta slowly drag ‘em out over the year….
