That was an exciting adventure to watch. You did some hard core root hogging. I’m glad you updated everyone on your condition after the trip. I was worried you had developed a UTI.
Ahhhhh @29:10 I was waiting for a random stick to flip you. I've been looking to take a trip similar to this. Not nearly as long tho. From Muskegon to Glen Arbor. (sleeping bear dunes) Awesome video man, you're a beast!!
Nice video, as a long distance, bicycle tourist 58 years old I’ve done many trips, even while I was your age, but I never did that kind of mileage over and over again I think you just overcook to your body to where it couldn’t recover enough to be fresh the next day . A lot of wattage spent pushing through some of those loose dirt roads, then getting off and trudging through the woods. Try some good quality bib shorts to hold your privates in place better to avoid the sting. All the movement was irritating . causing a little inflammation . Maybe more just pure water. I had Achilles tendinitis and custom orthotics helped cure it up. . Nice interstellar music during the bear Pass.😂. Thanks for taking us on your adventure.
Love the ride bro! I grew up in mulligan plains near the confluence of the dead river. It was great to see you ride past my driveway! That’s where I learned to ride a bike. Also, that yellow bridge is very new! I’m gonna head out to camp and ride up that way, been a few years.
I am from Michigan LP (West MI area) we don't have the elevation the UP has or the bears, but I can fully relate to the slow sandy two tracks you ended up on many times in this video. Sweet video by the way and man I would love to do a trip like this some time.
Another great adventure! A little bit of Marji, Crusher and PRU mixed in. Your mom should be proud of your bleeping (Mostly) out of your swearing. Ha! I have ridden almost every route over the years bikepacking from Copper Harbor to Traverse City. Epic terrain and beautiful scenery. Heal up and see you in the woods!
I bikepacked the MORE routes LP 2&3 a couple weeks ago. It was a blast. Wondering about how the UP sections are. Quite wild! Glad you got past that momma bear okay!
Watching the second half of your video. That mama and cub encounter was scary! Hey, what's the mapping program you're using to show your progress? I like the detail, topography and sepia filter.
Awesome vid my good man I am not surprised that you were able to go through that mess however I am surprised that your Cannondale actually had an 80 mm travel front fork I didn't think you would have one for a gravel grinder I too do a lot of bike packing short trips only because of work if I get an extra day maybe two for a vacation time that I can throw on I can get at least 3 days out of it Day and a half out day to have back if I'm lucky My next trip that I'm already planning is from Cleveland Ohio to Geneva on the lake also I take my photography bag with me let alone is about 60 lb not including everything else so I run a full suspension mountain bike 120 mm front and rear although I really wish I would have gotten the 170 front and rear or even the 180 fix especially the front a lot of weight hits that front at least for me anyways I digress Now for a camping I use hammock and tarp system these old bones don't like tents 2 miles or the tents actually don't like my old bones One of the two so I just stick with hammock and tarp and under quilts and overquilt maximum wait for that part for the sleep and shelter is 2 and 1/2 lb I can get it lower but why bother it's a comfortable I'm pretty sure you understand that take care see you on the flip side one day
By the way what size are those tires thickness wise like 2.35 but it looks like you have a 225 or 210 by a 29 inch I think so if you had thinner tires for a gravel grinder yeah it's going to be rough it's going to be very rough One reason why I always choose my minimum anyways is 2.35 and it doesn't matter if it's a 27.5 or 29er and on top of that I will always make sure I run crush cores inserts while being tubeless at the same time it helps out immensely 4 years not one flat and I've gone over some rough stuff even rougher than what you've gone through on this and still no flat also the carcass was a 3C was looking for a 4C but that wasn't going to happen unless it was a boost which I do not have frame availability My steed of choice was an emergency full sauce as I was telling you earlier but it is a diamondback Atroz 2 and I paid just under $1,000 for it then the upgrades so I would say 1,500 maxed again take care and you might want to drink more water or a couple of salt tablets to go on with that because you overdid it You overdid your muscles big time You know what I'm referring to You said it twice and a possible third by time I get done watching the whole thing
There's maps and gpx files for the Michigan MORE route here: www.michiganoffroadexpedition.com/sections. I'd recommend riding it without the detours I took.
You push yourself way too hard first two days. You should have kept the raggedy jacket for a layer of insulation. It seemed like you were running for life and death.
Strapping a hilltop cinnamon bun to your bike is some real yooper energy.
Great video and I like the positive energy and determination.
Like a boss! Your positive attitude was inspiring. Those conditions were brutal!
Great work pal. Mad respect for the effort 💪
This dude is a machine
As someone who went to NMU my freshman year and MTU for a few years since this is pretty sweet to see this all linked together by a young guy!
Awesome riding dude. Glad to see some one out there doing a good ride around the UP
You're an absolute beast man! Your day two commentary had me in stitches lol. Felt every ounce of that pain and suffering
That was an exciting adventure to watch. You did some hard core root hogging. I’m glad you updated everyone on your condition after the trip. I was worried you had developed a UTI.

Sweet roll😂...Great mount! Nom nom nom

Hey Pat, you should do a video on your bike setup the drop bar / aero bar setup on a hardtail mtb seems pretty legit.
Love the ride bro! I grew up in mulligan plains near the confluence of the dead river. It was great to see you ride past my driveway! That’s where I learned to ride a bike. Also, that yellow bridge is very new! I’m gonna head out to camp and ride up that way, been a few years.
Thanks! That's awesome
Cool ride. Seeing the world by bike is awesome. Good vid. Protect the gooch!
12:03 your video about the "memories" at the dealer almost made me crash my car heading down the expressway. Keep up the good content!
I am from Michigan LP (West MI area) we don't have the elevation the UP has or the bears, but I can fully relate to the slow sandy two tracks you ended up on many times in this video. Sweet video by the way and man I would love to do a trip like this some time.
Hiawatha National Forest is one of my favorite places
that looks so fun! nice job
This was fun to watch, great job!
You da man. I’ve driven across the UP slower in a blizzard.
Great video, I think you did amazing.
Great work, looks rough in the beginning but the two track seemed perfect
Another great adventure! A little bit of Marji, Crusher and PRU mixed in. Your mom should be proud of your bleeping (Mostly) out of your swearing. Ha!
I have ridden almost every route over the years bikepacking from Copper Harbor to Traverse City. Epic terrain and beautiful scenery. Heal up and see you in the woods!
Great video!
Sweet bike, Pat. 🤙
The kamoot gravel detours were crazy lol. Just basically swamp
Recieved a follow from me when you tickled my adhd brain finishing the hotel, motel 😂😂😂
A very real account of a very real adventure. I'm thinking you deserve more Sub's.
I’d love to do this route! Maybe this fall!
Sounded like an engineer from tech! Also, enjoyed this. Subscribed!
sub'd. what a rad trip. go you !!~
I bikepacked the MORE routes LP 2&3 a couple weeks ago. It was a blast. Wondering about how the UP sections are. Quite wild! Glad you got past that momma bear okay!
You're a beast! I only been up to Houghton one time and for a visit at Michigan Tech. But it's very pretty totally different way of life lol
Love it
Sick vid
Great Effort!
Thanks!
Good vid. Monster mileage days. Shame about the jacket, same thing happened to me when i was a kid.
Really cool video! Curious what your A/V setup is, the chest cam and what you're using to record audio? Nice riding!
Ho lotta type 2 fun
Wow man! Thanks algorithm, great video.
That was insane, I would have dropped after the first day of just 100 miles.
Burly!
I would have been ready to stop for the day in L’anse
It's strange living in the UP and seeing stuff and being like, "Hey! I know that place!" Since you hardly see UP stuff in the media.
😅🤣I'm definitely getting a sweet roll strap!
Watching the second half of your video. That mama and cub encounter was scary! Hey, what's the mapping program you're using to show your progress? I like the detail, topography and sepia filter.
how did you go that far, that many miles, with daylight in the Michigan spring?
Awesome vid my good man
I am not surprised that you were able to go through that mess however I am surprised that your Cannondale actually had an 80 mm travel front fork I didn't think you would have one for a gravel grinder
I too do a lot of bike packing short trips only because of work if I get an extra day maybe two for a vacation time that I can throw on I can get at least 3 days out of it Day and a half out day to have back if I'm lucky
My next trip that I'm already planning is from Cleveland Ohio to Geneva on the lake also I take my photography bag with me let alone is about 60 lb not including everything else so I run a full suspension mountain bike 120 mm front and rear although I really wish I would have gotten the 170 front and rear or even the 180 fix especially the front a lot of weight hits that front at least for me anyways I digress
Now for a camping I use hammock and tarp system these old bones don't like tents 2 miles or the tents actually don't like my old bones One of the two so I just stick with hammock and tarp and under quilts and overquilt maximum wait for that part for the sleep and shelter is 2 and 1/2 lb I can get it lower but why bother it's a comfortable I'm pretty sure you understand that take care see you on the flip side one day
That is not a Cannondale. Looks like it is a Canyon Lux which is a mountain bike which he must have outfitted drop bars to.
@@pocketrockets691
Thank you 👍
Great effort - did you ride with any self protection?
I though there at the beginning you were on top of the world. But you are still human after all. Good ride thohu
Cool video man.. what model canyon bike is that?
Thanks. It's a 2021 Canyon Lux CF 8
What width tire were you running? Nice vid man
Thanks! I was using 2.25" Schwalbe Thunder Burts
By the way what size are those tires thickness wise like 2.35 but it looks like you have a 225 or 210 by a 29 inch I think so if you had thinner tires for a gravel grinder yeah it's going to be rough it's going to be very rough One reason why I always choose my minimum anyways is 2.35 and it doesn't matter if it's a 27.5 or 29er and on top of that I will always make sure I run crush cores inserts while being tubeless at the same time it helps out immensely 4 years not one flat and I've gone over some rough stuff even rougher than what you've gone through on this and still no flat also the carcass was a 3C was looking for a 4C but that wasn't going to happen unless it was a boost which I do not have frame availability
My steed of choice was an emergency full sauce as I was telling you earlier but it is a diamondback Atroz 2 and I paid just under $1,000 for it then the upgrades so I would say 1,500 maxed again take care and you might want to drink more water or a couple of salt tablets to go on with that because you overdid it You overdid your muscles big time You know what I'm referring to You said it twice and a possible third by time I get done watching the whole thing
2:08 - bike: 204lbs, body: 52lbs.
Stuck in the Seney swamp
You have a gps map of route?
There's maps and gpx files for the Michigan MORE route here: www.michiganoffroadexpedition.com/sections. I'd recommend riding it without the detours I took.
Great Video! We enjoyed watching your adventure. Standard GoPro chest mount I am assuming? Audio and video are amazing.
Thanks! I actually made a GoPro mount for my backpack that I use with a magnetic SNAP mount just cause it's more convenient
@@pogden okay thanks. Perfect angle.
It’s mount Arvon, not Avon
Whoops, I can't read 😂 Thanks for letting me know
Keep up the good work on these videos! Your Marji Toyota dealership experience had me cracking up 😆
Why are you pushing so hard? I personally wouldn’t have fun that way. Great trip idea for sure! Thanks
I got sideswiped by an SUV and broke my collarbone. So now I'm just watching other people ride their bikes.
Haha, I too am in a similar situation. Different broken bones and I was hit head on by the earth, still laid up watching others ride though.
whatd you get at taco bell>?
I got the cantina chicken burrito meal and it was GOOD
sounds like you have a bladder infection
You push yourself way too hard first two days. You should have kept the raggedy jacket for a layer of insulation. It seemed like you were running for life and death.
I think a proper mountain bike would have been better
That whole "burns when I pee" thing....Bro you many wanna get a penicillin shot and stay away from the painted ladies..
Humongous cinnamon bun instead of a 🥕 😊
