Please DO NOT wear a binder while sleeping! NEVER. I just did, once, and that was once too often. I had had my binder on for like 15 hours or something and I didn't want to take it off because I was staying with a friend and didn't want him to see me without it. So I went to bed wearing it. I don't know how long I had slept but nevertheless I stopped breathing while asleep. Luckily I woke up in time, lungs empty, and had to rip the binder off before I could breath properly. That was by far stupidest and most dangerous thing I've ever done. I'm so glad I woke up, minute or two more and I probably hadn't woken up at all. Please don't do that.

I once wore my binder for about 36 hours straight cause I spent the night at a friends house and I was spooning... I didn't wanna ruin the spoon with boobs soo I just kept the binder on. My ribs were absolutely killing me the next day it was so hard to breathe my ribs felt stiff if that makes sense. Never again, nobody should ever do that

I agree on the bandages. I once wore one during an LGBTQ+ parade (I was walking in the parade) back when I used to be a drag king. Not only was it uncomfortable, I was hurting. My body was pratically begging for me to unbind and trying to breathe after the parade was over was a nightmare. DO. NOT. DO IT.

I used to bind with Ace bandages. My parents found about and they got really mad at me (It was like 3-4 weeks after I came out as trans). My parents talked to me about getting a sports bra so they did. One sports bra does NOT bind it helps conceal and it doesn't make them so prominent but it does not bind. I feel really uncomfortable going outside because I feel like everyone is looking at my chest. Today I just had a really quick talk with my mom about Underworks and she told me that when my dad comes back from his trip she'll get me one.

I just want to agree a lot on how important it is to bind right. I didn't, wore it for many many hours at a time and I also bound too tight for 5-6 years, which made my ribs deformed. No organs got damaged though (thank god) but I look a little weird. I've had top surgery now though, so no more binding for me (yay!)

I bought a compression bra from Underworks on Amazon and it is literally the BEST binder I've ever had. It binds really well, but doesn't constrict my ribs or anything. It's super comfortable and sometimes I can't even tell it's there. If you wear it longer, it will stretch out a little bit, allowing you to feel more comfortable. Underworks has consistently made amazing binders. I highly recommend them

also if you have genetic risk of asthma (or other respiratory diseases i think) wearing a binder etremally increases the chance of being sick in close future. it did for me which my doctor said, although i was really scared to go to her in my binder but i told her why i wear this and she found me my doctor (it's not that easy here) and i'm soooo thankful to her for understanding why i still bind even if i have asthma :). i have to add i was used ace bandages like ONCE for an hour (it left me fucking breathless, not for me at all) so i'm binding properly and it happened despite of that. :(

As a safe option to low key bind that isn't layered sports bras i find underarmour cold gear a couple of sizes below your usual folded over to make 3 layers works well.
and wow do not sleep in your binder i wore mine for 60 hours when i stayed at a friends and although i was alright at the time about a month after i slept in it again (I used to do that about 1 a fortnight) and almost cried, i couldn't sleep properly the next two nights without binding in the day at all, i was in so much pain i thought I'd broken my ribs. if your dysphoria is that bad please avoid the situation at all costs, it's horrible and so painful just please love yourself

    • @speeeee35
      @speeeee35 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Especially if you are young, don't do anything permanent until you've got it all figured out... Which you will eventually. And that's not just for trans people; no one should get plastic surgery of any kind until they have given it a LOT of thought and are positive, bc you can't go back. So think it through. In the meantime, you should go to support groups (or online groups if you're young or closeted or whatever) and talk to others who've been through the same thing. Therapy may also help (look for someone who specializes in gender related issues). There is NOTHING wrong with you, I just mention therapy bc sometimes talking things out with someone else makes you realize things you wouldn't have by just sitting alone thinking! Good luck and don't worry.. Maybe you're trans, maybe you're cis, or maybe something in between... You WILL figure it out.

I feel like people are sacrificing too much for excellent compression. I have the SHO binder and it doesn't hurt me at all. Not even a little bit. it's not too tight either, and it still compresses. Yeah i'm not completely flat, but you'd never tell- am I'm a D so that's saying something! I was really careful with binding because i'm gender fluid, so obviously I didn't want to damage my boobs!

  • @ObeyTheSnarf

I've found that wearing a belly shirt (like, those half-shirts that only cover your chest) under my tri-top binder helps a lot with regards to chafing. Also, it only covers just a bit more than the binder itself, so it doesn't have much impact on what shirts I can and cannot wear over it.
I was having problems with my nipples chafing even when I wore a T-shirt under my binder, but a nice soft stretchy belly shirt prevents that for the most part.

If you are someone who needs to bind but want to stay comfy, I recommend buying a binder SLIGHTLY bigger than you need, yes, even if you have a large chest. I got mine bigger by accident, but I'm okay with it now. I can breathe okay, it's not painful, and I've literally worn it from 12am on one day to 1am the next (if my maths is correct that should be 36 hours?) and been fine (it probably wasn't very good for me, but I could still breathe and it didn't really hurt). Of course, it doesn't bind brilliantly and your chest does fall down (so you can't bind upwards or to the side), but if you wear baggy sweaters and flannel shirts like me, you barely even notice.

He stopped breathing and he didn't breathe for the entire night. When his parents came to check on him, his heart had stopped. We rushed to the hospital and he couldn't be saved. The very first time I bound I used ace bandages and I have a large chest so it was especially painful. This was in 2000 or 2001 and information on the internet was super scarce. So, I didn't find out until later that I shouldn't have done that. And it took a long time to find an alternative. I love the muscle shirt style binders by Underworks, they're comfortable and not as restrictive but still do the job, which I was impressed with. The only bad thing us you have to wear pants with a belt or the binder will roll up, but that's a minor annoyance. It works so well it's worth it. That being said, I'll be glad to be getting my surgery soon and not gave to use then, any more. XD

yeah, I agree with the stretch marks. I used it for about 2 years and I seldom use it now. I don't have problems with my breathing, but with how my chest appears after I used it for 2 years straight. I can't afford it 'til now coz I am still a student. But I am saving extra money when I do have. So, I am looking forward on having binders. Thanks for the information, 'coz I really don't know how binders help trans. But now, I feel like "Oooh, so that is what I was doing. And I didn't know it." Coz I was wearing my binder to hide my body fats, and kind of slim-down my body shape a bit and my mom bought me a binder-like thing, yeah, I don't know what that is. So, I am happy too coz I can bind my chest at the same time. Though, of course it is expensive. I'm glad mom bought me two. LOL. Thanks ma!

My Mum still doesn't like the fact that i wear a binder even after i told her about dysphoria and how to bind properly so that it doesn't cause severe damage, she refuses to believe it. She just thinks that if i wear it, it will mess me up even though I know that the binder i have is the right size and i don't usually wear it over the time period or when im at home. Although I do believe that it has actually made me more self-conscious if i go out anywhere without it on. So my chest is in pretty good shape after binding i also have a second binder that is slacker which was cheap cost me a fiver off amazon which i use if im doing anything that involves alot of physical activity.

My skin elasticity was ruined when I was a teenager because I put on 30kg in 3 years. My boobs were sagging before I finished high school. I lost some weight later so they sagged even more and that was all before I started binding. They look quite 'deflated'. In my pre-op appointment the surgeon commented that my boobs were basically 'empty' so I wouldn't need any liposuction.

you can use tape, but only medical tape that is made for skin. and you should look up 'open chest taping'. that way you can move properly. a lot of cosplayers use this methode to bind whem wearing open shirts. i use it sometime under my gc2b binder (size s) since i have a really large chest and i hate it when it's not as flat as i want it to be.
but still, be careful with the tape. test if you may be allergic to it. and dont wear it longer that 8-10 h like you should do with your binder. and rip it off carefully since you still got little hairs at your chest and you can still hurt yourself.

If I wear I binder just to school (so 8 hours 5 days a week) and on some special occasions, will I still lose elasticity like that? I don't want to get bad results from top surgery, but chances are I won't get it for 4+ years, so should I just bind rarely or something?

I used it bind really unhealthy, I slept with a binder on for months and I would swim, run, and work out in a gym in a binder. I never had a real problem, but I only binded my chest for a year and a half before top surgery and my chest was like not elastic at all, I was seven months on T but I’m only 15 years old

I can't buy a binder because of my living situation with my parents, so what I'm currently using (I know it's really bad for me just putting that out there) is a stocking/leggin, I cut off the leg part, and made the first bit into a binder type shape, because my chest is quite large (size C or D) it doesn't work, so after putting that on I also use 2 bandages wrapped tightly around myself held in place by safety pins. I know this method is pretty bad for me but I literally can't deal with my chest, and hopefully I won't have to do this too long as my friend said she would get it for me delivered to her house and just give it to me during school or something.

I bind with an underworks binder and I've almost never felt any pain from except the one time I fell asleep in it, but even after then the pain was mild and only lasted 5 minutes. But for some reason it binds well. is this normal? is it just me subconsciously ignoring any pain I might be feeling out of fear for my health?

No, it just means that you are safe. You could be less sensitive in that area or your binder can just be really good. No need to worry.

I have a Whatwears binder, it's an Asian company and they run 2 sizes smaller than US sizes. So I have a xx-large now and but it's on the tightest hook so I need to get a large so I can have is on the loosest one because I want to lose weight and slowly work up the hooks. There are 3 rows on the side and I have a lot of dysphoria and I cried when my binder came in and didn't bind the way I wanted and in shirts it would still show that I have boobs. I have had it for about 3 or 4 days now.

Because I don't have an actual binder I have begun to do the sports bra thing where I wear two of them. Because I haven't told anyone that I am questioning my gender and that I don't like my chest, I'm kinda scared for changing into my PE uniform because if I go into the stall to change my friend will ask me why. (I've always changed with everyone else in the open.)

I understand the need to use whatever is available to bind but never ace bandages especially if you're going to be active. I wore one for about 5 months when I first found out I was trans and didn't know how dangerous they were. I had a mandatory fitness class where we had to do tabata and yoga among other workouts that involved certain breathing techniques and running and I had already had back and rib problems before due to accidents but doing all that in a bandage really messed me up. I would also hunch over so no one could see what was left of my chest so all that combined and now I have a forward resting head, scoliosis and a sunken rib. The pain is terrible and I can't even lay down flat without experiencing extreme discomfort. I go to a chiropractor with a lot of experience and even he says that he's never seen this amount of damage in anyone as young as I am (17). Correcting my structure brings more pain as well and I'm extremely self conscious of the bend in my neck. Please find a way to get a proper binder from the start and don't use any thing else even if that means you have to wait. I understand dysphoria but I promise doing it properly will be so much better in the long run. Stay safe!

I want to add that if you absolutely cannot get an actual binder for whatever reason, PLEASE DO NOT BIND WITH DUCK TAPE!!! When I first realized that I was trans I was basically going to take that secret to the grave and so I didnt have a binder; however, I had such bad dysphoria that multiple times I actually considered attempting to perform my own chest surgery with an Exacto knife at home. My solution was to use duck tape and it was a terrible decision that I used for maybe 2 years. Duck tape has literally no give to it, you feel like youre being crushed and strangled. You cant expand your chest in any way and after hours of wearing it, you will eventually have to tear it off due to immense pain. I cant say whether or not I have permanent damage from doing that because I havent been able to afford a doctor to tell them but its very likely I did. So, as much as I want all trans people to immediately be able to get a legitimate binder, I know some cant and it sucks, but please whatever you do DONT use duck tape.

I want to know the same thing. If you have a sinus infection or exacerbated asthma you should probably not wear one during this time. I had top dysphoria so bad during this time that I did not leave the house. I am visually impaired. I am also hearing impaired. I think for me whether or not I have a shirt on or binder I know that they're there.. If I have a binder on I'm okay because I know no one else can see them. If I just have a shirt I know that they're exposed and I know that people could see them. I'm small chested. I hope this makes sense.

One problem I have with previous binders is when I do the up & out thing - I get sideboobs (that extra bit hanging off the top). I don't do down & out because of having that boob shape when I'm wearing shirts (I mostly wear mediums, but now getting larges). Long story short, I have a big bust and have trouble with binders.

Now that I saw this I'm really worried. I wanna get top surgery in the future, but my chest is already pretty saggy and I'm only 14. Would a binder be bad for me, who was already a saggy chest? I need answers, sorry for the ignorance.

I don't think I have a proper binder. It more like a thin band those goes overs bras (or crops tops which I wear) and it doesn't affect breathing. It kind of flattens me. It's not great but I can notice a change. I'll look into a proper binder and not wear it all the time. Thanks Chase.

I feel pretty awkward posting this, but I need some advice. I've been living with my dad for awhile now (about 2 years) but due to recent events, I have decided to move in with my mom. I told my dad that I wish to Identify as a boy now, and he was okay with it. But now that I'm moving in with my mom, I don't know how to tell her. She's the kinda person that doesn't like homosexuals, mainly because of her religion. I'm not really sure how she feels about transgender people, and to be honest, I'm a little scared to find out... How do I tell her? And I also need a binder, but I don't have any money because I'm still in school, so I don't know what to do. It's getting to the point where I'm really depressed about my appearance. If someone could give me advice, that would be great~ :3

Can you recommend any binders for trans men who have larger natural breasts that aren't just more constriction? Most binders (made for average to small sized breasts) limit my breathing too much to be comfortable to wear. :((

+Megatuber2000 I've just started binding and I'm so lucky that my family are so supportive. If you need to talk you can add me on social media. I know that sounds creepy but I'm 19 years old and male (born female). Around about sept/oct last year I finally realised I wanted to transition. People like your parents need to understand that being gay, straight or trans is a life choice, YOUR BORN LIKE IT. So if they want to put the blame on someone, then it's them. I found it really hard telling people I was gay and I got so much support. Keep your head held high and don't forget that your special. Just be you, that's all that matters, fuck what your parents think. If they really loved you, then they would except you for who you are. Stay strong buddy

I'm wearing two sports bras on me for like a year now and I always have one with smaller size and one of my size on me
I do that because my mom didn't let me have a binder
It is pretty hard for me because I am not really fit I also have issues with breathing since birth so I had really rough times with my breathing
I got used to it plus I just do not want to protend something different or have people think that I am someone else
I just didn't want to go in front of people without my chest binded
So for sport class I decided to wear that and for everyday I wanted to wear two smaller sized bras
I have to wake up at 5 am so it was pretty normal for me to have it on for twelve or more hours
Second day of me having two smaller sized bras on I felt really dizzy all day
    But afternoon was the worst
It hurted so much that I was thinking that my rips could broke
But I didn't want to take it off
    Luckily nothing happened
I started to wear one bra of my size and one of the smaller again and after couple days talked to my mom about it
After few days we've ordered my first binder from gc2b and I can't wait for it to be delivered
My rips are still sometimes sore but I feel better now
