I cried at the end of Switch because of this song. I was 15 and CONVINCED that I experienced a piece of heaven. It's like blue sky and clouds with the lyrics softly written in white. I never forgot that feeling. Also, if you listen to the track all the way to the very end you can hear Clannad softly cooing as if lulling a baby to sleep but really reassuring us! Honest and loving with a happy ending to everyone's story. It almost makes this life make sense.
I was 3 or 4 when I obsessed over that movie, cried every single time, but loved it, Still wished for Amanda to stay alive. Now I think that watching that movie at a such young age had an impact on me, but I remember almost every detail. How crazy is that. And I absolutely agree with the piece of heaven, I think it shaped my perception of religion even.
I have just listened to this version of this classic song. Absolutely loved it. Joni owns this song but these version adds another dimension to it. It's just a great story.
I would say Joni's version from the Love Actually film might be better than the original because it was being sung by a much more mature Joni Mitchell with even decades more life experience but that's just my opinion. Here's another version I really like as well. th-cam.com/video/bu4_WeZkSgc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Wio-PaS1JBEWcmK9
In 1972 i sat in my house with my daughter Tara, her father left me for someone else. I used to play Joni Mitchel every day. This version is making me cry. Life is so incredible. PEACE
I remember watching this tune on top of the pops back in 1991 i was 15 and my Mother would hire the TV up when it came on..i always thought she was crazy ..but she died back in 95 and now at nearly 40 I know why this song meant so much to her
This song always seems to sum up my dark years when I was either locked inside a box under water or flying high like a maniac. Luckily I made it through those years but I will always carry the mental and physical scars, and the name. Life is a forlorn dream, accept that and one day you might be happy.
heard this the other day as I was waking up from sleeping in the TV room. The movie Switch was starting, and this song just gave me goose bumps. So hauntingly beautiful!!!
I LOVED this song performed by Joni Mitchell and others before hearing this version, but this duet with the slow haunting romantic arrangement is simply better. Also both of these singers have amazing voices.
Bows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughin' when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say I love you, right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed But something's lost and something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
I remember hearing this when I saw Blake Edwards' "Switch." To this day, every time I hear this song, I think of heaven. No song has ever FELT that way to me and it's one of the pieces which inspired me to take up music again. I think I've found another piece of God.
+cocteautwinned I LOVED this song before hearing this version. However, as soon as I heard this version I knew this was how it was meant to sound. They took one of the best songs ever and made it even better. Maire Brennan and Clannad so underrecognized by American audiences. Paul Young did an amazing job as well and whoever came up with the arrangement deserves credit as well.
It's where I first heard this beauty. Unbelievable! Every time I hear it I hear the final scene where God says "Take your time. You have all eternity." Epic tingles!
I remember breaking up with my first true girlfriend - this was the song that this sad kid used to cry myself to sleep with! That was twenty years ago! I feel so old LOL!!! What a song, though. Stands up to the modern songs of late! A classic
i saw the movie switch when i was back in school days in 91/2 this song was the ending song to the movie very haunting and totally forgotten about it until i saw 'love actually' and heard the original by joni mitchel i would say this is the closes to the original i came across and bring me back to my youth
Karen, I agree. No disrespect meant to Joni Mitchell --- but I love the interaction between male and female vocalists. I also love the tempo. Slow, dramatic and lovely. Regards, Jim.
+James Millen Agreed. I loved this song performed by Joni Mitchell and others before hearing this version, but this duet with the slow haunting romantic arrangement is simply better. Also both of these singers have amazing voices.
Sublime! A truly wonderful version of Joni Mitchell's 1969 classic. I am old enough to remember the original and even now, 40 years later, I really don't know clouds at all.
I heard this song first in the movie Switch, early 1990's I believe. Fell in love with it instantly. After I learned it was originally written and performed by Joni Mitchell, I listened to her versions. For years I much preferred this diet, so so beautiful. Lately though, I've come to appreciate the wistfulness, simplicity and depth of Joni's version much more. This one here is much more melodic and romantic. Joni's is, to me, more subtle, nuanced and multi-layered.
Every once in a while, someone takes a great song and re-interprets it in such a way that the Earth splits underfoot and a different universe is revealed. This version of “Both Sides Now” is one example. “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed is another. Such events are rare and sublime.
I thought I disliked this song. It wasn’t the song, it was the singers. This version is beautiful and I can finally enjoy a song I feel like eeeeeveryone liked but me.
I regularly fly every month, and this is a very wonderful song ever crafted when seeing those cloud formation up in the sky, reminds me a total picture of simply life when I was young living with my parents brothers and sisters in our simple but stormy place in PI. Such a very touching song. Thank you for posting this wonderful song.
Paul Young with Clannad - Both Sides Now (1991 video). She’s got a lovely voice very complimentary to Paul. I think this song clicked for both of them. Lovely video and very relaxing 😎 song. Nicely done.
this is simply gorgeos, clannad are still as angelic as ever, and of course you sounded so sweet, sorry i dident warrent your friendship, i obviously dident count for much,
We grow wiser - but we can hold the innocence of the past in our perspective..We have a more complex view of the world - we are not knowing - we understand nothing.. We have only questions...... we are just here. We can look at life from all sides
A truly wonderful song i use to have this on video. Paul Young apparently had a cold whilst filming the video, what a trooper.Senza una donna and heaven can wait are real classics too.
I was very much touched by this song when I was young but I have not been able to recall what it was until now. I just bumped into this song by accident and I am very happy to hear it again and can feel the emotion I had back then.
I heard this song on the radio back in 1994 just once and it never left my mind. Now thanks to you I've re-discovered it. Thank you very much. This is such a beautiful version.
I’ve heard this song a long time ago and to be honest I don’t hear it much since, then the other day where I live in Llandudno North Wales I heard it playing along the pier, when I got home I tried to find the song and singer and played it again and again till I heard this version, what can I say, absolutely beautiful version if not better than the original, mind you Joshs version is good to
Paul Young did a fantastic work on this song....however this song is written and sung by our own Julio Bernardo Euson back in 1971...no one ever sung it better than him.....we would really love to have you on your island Aruba again for at least one concert... it would be a dream come true.....bin deleita nos cu bo voz...nos ta semper cu bo.....
My God! I am so in love with this song, it is the best song I have found. I have been in a rut with searching for great love songs and this is the greatest I have found, it has an actual poem for lyrices.
Pure brilliance. I feel like I am at the pearly gates every time I hear this. It worked wonderfully with the film "Switch" at the beginning with the cloud shots AND the during the end sequence with the matte painting of NYC (thank you ILM!). Both film and this arrangement/performance are HIGHLY overlooked/underrated.
Hands down the best version. Anything with Paul Young in is going to be decent, but Maire's vocal gives this already amazing song another dimension. Different gravy.
Played this song as my mum took her last breath with all her family around her bed, both beautiful and heartbreaking 💔
the best duet ever recorded. My heart is always totally touched when I hear this song...
I cried at the end of Switch because of this song. I was 15 and CONVINCED that I experienced a piece of heaven. It's like blue sky and clouds with the lyrics softly written in white. I never forgot that feeling.

And I absolutely agree with the piece of heaven, I think it shaped my perception of religion even.
Indeed that was a good film. One of the best that was made for HBO in the 90s
I also remember crying while watching the movie.
Just too beautiful movie
Some Moving tributes to this very beautiful song and haunting, ethereal lyrics
Played this at Mams funeral. She loved this track. Always brings a tear to my eye. Miss you Mam.
Sorry for your loss. It is a very moving song.
My mum loved it too 💚
It is a beautiful song. Maybe the most beautiful song ever. And this is the best version.
Beautiful song ❤ Maire Brennan lives about 20mins drive from where I am tonight & met Paul young early 90s and what a really nice person 👏👏👏
I have just listened to this version of this classic song. Absolutely loved it. Joni owns this song but these version adds another dimension to it. It's just a great story.
this is still the best version done god i miss the 80s
91

Best version I've ever heard of this lovely song.
Agree.
Agreed
Agree
Agree. Pity it’s not to be found on Spotify😢
I just can't watch the end of the switch movie... when the little girl is standing by the grave and this song plays... I can't stop crying...😥
I love the original and Glen Campbell's version, but I have to say this is the best interpretation I've ever heard! Absolutely magnificent!
Joni is the best songwriter on earth
In 1972 i sat in my house with my daughter Tara, her father left me for someone else. I used to play Joni Mitchel every day. This version is making me cry. Life is so incredible. PEACE

The same year I lost my mom . God bless our mothers.
I lost my mam(RIP) in July 95 too, this has always been my favourite version of this beautiful Joni Mitchell song. 🎵🎤🎼📻🎧🎹🎸😍💕
one of the best paul young songs to go under the radar
A beautiful version of this song. I love the musical dialogue between the singers.
Supposedly they recorded the song separately in different locations and were never together. Paul Young had a dose of the flu at the time
a very very underated song from these two, i love this.
I'm very sure that we all agree.
What makes you believe it's underrated?
It is excellent. Dexy's do a very different version which is also great.
This song always seems to sum up my dark years when I was either locked inside a box under water or flying high like a maniac. Luckily I made it through those years but I will always carry the mental and physical scars, and the name. Life is a forlorn dream, accept that and one day you might be happy.
Paul Young's voice has never sounded better and the harmonies are beautiful. A duet beautifully arranged adds a new dimension to the song.
heard this the other day as I was waking up from sleeping in the TV room. The movie Switch was starting, and this song just gave me goose bumps. So hauntingly beautiful!!!
The best of the best duet ever...on a very wonderful song.
Loved the movie, but my favorite part was the duet that closes (in credits). Best version I've ever hear --- and it, too, brings me to tears.
Me too... 😢🌟
Always cry… This song describes how I feel after loosing my angel my mother…
The best rendition of this song ever, is by these two.
Paul Young...a voice that never been forgotten...
I have been looking for this version. Its my favorite version of this song. I love Clannad and Paul Young did this song so good
I LOVED this song performed by Joni Mitchell and others before hearing this version, but this duet with the slow haunting romantic arrangement is simply better. Also both of these singers have amazing voices.
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughin' when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you, right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
But something's lost and something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I remember hearing this when I saw Blake Edwards' "Switch." To this day, every time I hear this song, I think of heaven. No song has ever FELT that way to me and it's one of the pieces which inspired me to take up music again.
I think I've found another piece of God.
Beautiful song and voices of Moya & Paul. Wonderful interpretation. The best!!
Never knew they covered this! Wow! Lovely!
+cocteautwinned I LOVED this song before hearing this version. However, as soon as I heard this version I knew this was how it was meant to sound. +cocteautwinned Hey! The song was originally recorded for the 1991 movie - 'Switch'.
It's where I first heard this beauty. Unbelievable! Every time I hear it I hear the final scene where God says "Take your time. You have all eternity."
Epic tingles!
how are you paul. i love this song.
Paul and Clannad simply killed this. Do you know who came up with the arrangement?
The absolute best version of them all
Totally agreed. Thanks.
still is. After all this time
I agree.
Joni's version is the best. This is great. Haunting. Different. But come on.
I remember breaking up with my first true girlfriend - this was the song that this sad kid used to cry myself to sleep with! That was twenty years ago! I feel so old LOL!!! What a song, though. Stands up to the modern songs of late! A classic
I love this song. Joni Mitchell wrote this beautiful ballad.
i saw the movie switch when i was back in school days in 91/2 this song was the ending song to the movie very haunting and totally forgotten about it until i saw 'love actually' and heard the original by joni mitchel i would say this is the closes to the original i came across and bring me back to my youth
Hi Andy: I, too, saw the Movie --- then was awe inspired by the closing credits, which included this lovely version. IMO --- better than Joni.
Just love this song and as a fan of Paul Young it couldn't be better. I agree it works so well as a duet
The Dexys version is tremendous. Different but really moving.
Que maravilha! Tema de Switche , que eu vi no cinema em 1991, fime pouco visto, mais muito bom! Inovador!
I love this song!!! :D
Sublime!
A truly wonderful version of Joni Mitchell's 1969 classic.

Love this track I always said I'd have this track at my funeral when it's time
Nice song , from two melodic and divine voices.
Fell in love with this version the very first time i heard it on Paul's From Time to Time album.
Joni's version came a close 2nd... 🤭
My song at age 13......listened to this over and over! Still own the tape cassette and walkman! ❤
i really love this song. the 2 of them together is class

I would love to hear both Joni & Paul do this song as a duet, it would be one of the most fitting full circles in music.
love this version
Beautiful
Absolutely beautiful 💞💞
I thought I disliked this song. It wasn’t the song, it was the singers. This version is beautiful and I can finally enjoy a song I feel like eeeeeveryone liked but me.
When I hear this song I shall always think of my sister, whom I shall miss always. R.I.P. Maryellen, a huge Joni Mitchell fan. Great collaboration. .
so beautiful
A beautiful cover of joni Mitchell song well done done by two great artists
I came back here after watching CODA, but this is still by far my favorite version, ever since I heard it on the opening segment of the movie, Switch.
As a former pilot, I agree. Sometimes clouds get in my way, too.
James Millen thought old Airbus and Boeing would have given you proper instruments to bring you in by autopilot
Paul Young with Clannad - Both Sides Now (1991 video).
She’s got a lovely voice very complimentary to Paul. I think this song clicked for both of them. Lovely video and very relaxing 😎 song.
Nicely done.

Never heard this before, wow!! Something else, 🤗
Thanks for the wonderful song i love it
Beautiful 🕊♥️
I really love this song. This song and his other songs keep me going, when I have alot of ruff days with my kidneys.
this is simply gorgeos, clannad are still as angelic as ever, and of course you sounded so sweet, sorry i dident warrent your friendship, i obviously dident count for much,
I remember this playing at the end of “Switch” as a kid and still have never found anything that compares to this version.
Simply ono of the best songs ever written and performed. just love it
I love alot of music . I think this is one of the most heartfelt written songs thankyou Joni Mitchell x
We grow wiser - but we can hold the innocence of the past in our perspective..We have a more complex view of the world - we are not knowing - we understand nothing.. We have only questions...... we are just here. We can look at life from all sides

I wake up every morning with this amazing song.
As do I.
Pure magic.
Aggravated I can’t get on Apple Music.
I’ve heard this song a long time ago and to be honest I don’t hear it much since, then the other day where I live in Llandudno North Wales I heard it playing along the pier, when I got home I tried to find the song and singer and played it again and again till I heard this version, what can I say, absolutely beautiful version if not better than the original, mind you Joshs version is good to
As much as I love both Judy and Joni versions this duet nails it
Absolutely beautiful
Gorgeous song. Beautifully sung. He really is the most beautiful man in the world.
A wonderful interpretation / interpretation of this song.
IMO ---- the best.
Sheer class!

I'm from Philippines. I love this song. Ost from switch year 1991. July 14 2022.
only one word .... beautiful
this song reminds my high school days....tanx for posting......so great!
Have always loved both these performances. What a tender, moving performance.
The most beautiful interpretation of this song I've ever heard. Sorry, Joni.
Agree
This song always bring me to tears.
My God! I am so in love with this song, it is the best song I have found. I have been in a rut with searching for great love songs and this is the greatest I have found, it has an actual poem for lyrices.
Listen to the words closely.
This is timeless wisdom ...
Such a beautiful song

my ex wife loved this! made her cry when I bought it for her, years after it was re released!
It might be strange --- but I'm a male and I, too, shed tears when hearing this song.
Lovely duet remake of the original is beautifully sung by both Young and Brennan and was definitely too good of a song for Switch. Thanks for posting.
💔💔 A song I never showed you xxxxxx if you find this then it means something xxx hope you and bon are safe and warm 💕
Best version of the song ever
Hey Julia
Look for a version by Seal
I’m sure you will love it
A.
This is an amazing song and this is the best version of it ever done.
I don't know Joni Mitchell version, but it's the only thing I've been told about my dad, this was his favourite song 😪😪😪😪x
Hands down the best version. Anything with Paul Young in is going to be decent, but Maire's vocal gives this already amazing song another dimension. Different gravy.
Thanks for sharing this song!
Extremely beautiful lyrics by Joni Mitchel. Almost Shakespearean in the understanding of the emotions of love.
Verrückter Film ,Sehr schönes Lied......Daumen hoch :-)
