    The Bushido RPG had a good fast draw sword duel mechanic. There was a skill based roll-off for who attacked first, then both players dealt automatic criticals in order, with the second attack being canceled by that character's death or incapacitation. The critical chart was particularly deadly.

    The Red Room's western title is Wretched Country. There's a 2nd edition coming, with grittier rules.

      That's right! Looking forward to see the changes.

    The only Old West rpg stuff I’ve ever seen was the Boot Hill conversion page in the 1e Dungeon Masters Guide.

      We used to play a Boot Hill/AD&D conversion at school in the early 1980s using those conversion rules in between AD&D modules - the High Chaparral with orcs and dinosaurs - it was silly but good fun.

      I like the Quickdraw affecting initiative rule. That makes sense to me.

    Just made a recent purchase of Grit and Bullets (and two others from the author). Not that that I'm claiming this game is OSR, but in my mind a better Microd20 western is Owlhoot Trail by Pelgrane Press. It explains the microd20 rules better and in a more concise way (as well as adding in its own unique ideas, such as critical injury, which you were describing, and combat zones). Prior to reading it, I didn't really understand the rules of any the rpgs I had purchased in my college days (which is where I first heard of D&D), after finding it in a Half Price Bookstore and reading it one time, ttrpgs clicked in my head and the next night I was GMing my first game. My brother, who had was recovering from some severe mental health issues at the time was a part of the party. Not only was the game/campaign my gateway to the hobby but it was cool to get to see him smile and have a good time after what had been a pretty hard two year road for him. Anyway, same system but better presentation, more intuitive, and coming from someone who had no background on what an rpg was and attempted reading a couple others beforehand and couldn't make heads or tails what AC was ect, helped me to grasp the concepts needed to understand what an rpg is and how to play one.

    Denmark hasn’t released his western book “Gunslinger” yet.

      Really? He did the kickstarter a while ago. Anyways, I'll look forward to seeing it.

      But it has soooo many choices in character creation! That's bad remember.

      You joke but that's true. In my own A&E campaign I used random methods to determine most of that.

    That is apparently the 1st edition.

    If I buy Grit and Bullets that will make an official crap load of Wild West games I have. I think I have about ten already if not more.

      @@RPGPundit I guess you can never have enough. I like playing Wild West skirmish wargames as well. Got a bunch of rule sets for that and a huge posse of miniatures.

    I will check this out.
    Speaking of Aces & Eights, it's a shame that Jolly went Woke.

    yowza. like you said, this game has so many moving parts that aren't well explained. if I want a Wild West game, I will simply play Frontier Scum, the wild west mork borg.

    • @RPGPundit
      @RPGPundit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mork Borg is made by woke cancel culture eurotrash, though. Don't buy stuff from people who despise you.

      It's also just you know a bad game.

    • @RPGPundit
      @RPGPundit  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually worse than a bad game: it's not even interesting enough to be a bad game. It's just edgy art and no real ideas.
