The introduction of your talk throughout your videos explaining the musical notation and phrasing of the notes makes someone that doesn't know a diddle squat about drums feel welcoming as if they might entering into someone's front door whom they don't know but once they enter eventually feel as if they at home on a warm mat. Keep this up within the drumming community. ☮️
how is there a lesson type video that is so interactive but isn't. you literally answer all the questions I have and then it helps me play it better along with you. i'm challenging myself during the quarantine to learn all the licks and maybe mash them all together once i have them down well enough. keep drumming man!
@@marcushawkinsmusic You could definitely turn it into a really nice lick. Maybe like a mini solo to go from a 2nd chorus into some sort of low dynamic bridge or something if you orchestrate it on the right surfaces. Can definitely be expanded on!
I have always dreamed of getting into marching drumming, but I never got anywhere before THIS video! I actually learned this and can finally produce an interesting rhythm! After years of frustration! Thank you so much!! Production quality and your teaching is outstanding!! Have a good new year too!
Prat Verma I grew up “beat boxing” and practicing diction. I wanted to be a dj. Lol soooo when I started drumming and heard the “say it before you play it” motto i took it to heart!! Happy drumming
I definitely think this video has the best production quality of all of the learn this lick series! Everything about it is super professional and awesome. The instruction is spot on and super helpful 10/10
Just discovered your channel, and these are great. I hope you make more and more!! I have a couple suggestions, but it's purely subjective. 1. Play the whole lick at the beginning at full speed so we know what we're working towards. 2. At the end when you play it up to speed, repeat it like 16 times with a metronome so we can play along. 3. Don't verbalize it at the end of the video, it's tough to hear the sticking over your voice.
Super cool Marcus. Really nice that you do the verbalisation with us. It is keeping the listener to the fire with being present, conscious of what we are playing and being precise. I would love a video where you talk about going from rudimental drumming to drumset drumming. How does the grip change? What changes and what things stays the same when you bring it over?
One: you subdivide like a god. Two: you teach really well. And Three: your love for it really shows and you give lots of positive energy. It's 3 in the morning, you've managed to keep my attention for 20 minutes, and yeah, you've got me practicing, hyped, and hoping I can be half as good as you are one day.
also... i've already done book reports: th-cam.com/video/5PMgafcN6OQ/w-d-xo.html and a cheese series ( this is the 3rd one in the series): th-cam.com/video/iOKMRsunULc/w-d-xo.html
Great lick man and very good teaching however if i may i would like to suggest to not sing the lick every time you do it because you can't really feel the stick flow. Thank you !
It's like...he knows when I mess up

Phinnuh lol they have delicious chicken and costumer service!
What does it mean when there’s a flat line on top of a note?
Eat Your Heart Out for drummers it means to put a little accent on the note, like a nudge instead of a punch
Thanks!
