- I show how I replaced my old inefficient water heater with a new heat pump high efficiency water heater. My old water heater was about 14 years old and has never had any maintenance performed on it. I knew it was only a matter of time before it stopped working. In this how to install a hybrid water heater video I demonstrate how to drain and remove the old water heater and install the new one. I show the start to finish installation process. Only a few tools are needed including a crescent wrench, pliers, and perhaps a hacksaw. Piping will also be necessary to connect the heat pump water heater to your house water lines. In this case I use CPVC.
I wanted to install a water heater that used less electricity to save money and also be more conservative with energy for environmental consideration. I was leaning on a tankless system because I like the concept of not storing hot water and saving space. However after watching @MattRisinger video about the perks of hybrid water heaters I did some more research. The heat pump water heater was determined to be the best fit for our water heating application and I hope to explain why in more detail in an upcoming video. Stick around for that one and thanks.
