I disagree. I think it would have probably been the same tbh. I feel like we all remember Oprah as being very sensitive and warm, but she was also hard-hitting at times when it seemed inappropriate. I think Oprah's interview of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is still up on youtube, and you can see her go in on them a few times. One thing that I think Oprah would have done differently is that she would have probably leaned in to Monica's tape more and tried to humiliate her more with it. If she was speaking in a way to protect her image she would have done so in a completely different way. She was extremely young and vulnerable and mentally fragile and obviously extremely kind and loving and also in touch with her sexuality. And he was an old man who took advantage of all of this.

I disagree. I think it would have probably been the same tbh. I feel like we all remember Oprah as being very sensitive and warm, but she was also hard-hitting at times when it seemed inappropriate. I think Oprah's interview of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is still up on youtube, and you can see her go in on them a few times.
One thing that I think Oprah would have done differently is that she would have probably leaned in to Monica's tape more and tried to humiliate her more with it. I saw a video about how Oprah tends to lean in emotionally where other interviewers/people would distance themselves, and it's hard to say for sure, but I think she would have been just as harsh as Barbara, just in a slightly different way.

Looking from today's perspective in year 2022 I find some questions and interviewing strategy to be quite rough, especially listening to yourself crying on the phone. Needless to say some elements of interview were clearly made for the audience and for the ratings, but gosh, if I were in Monica's shoes, I wouldn't like to answer the questions raised.
