Log Cabin Bird House

- How to build your own Log Cabin Bird House with green roof. Before anyone accuses me of cutting down trees to build a bird house I didn't!! The sticks I used were all from trees that had been blown down when storm Ophelia passed over Ireland on the 16th October 2017.
This project is more about taking your time and enjoying the process of building something with just hand tools. The wood I collected was about 18 - 24 mm in diameter and the other wood was some pallet wood I had laying around. I decided to go with the green roof as i think it fits better with the look of the cabin style. I used some polythene to protect the wood and stapled on some chicken wire to hopefully prevent the earth from sliding. I am not too sure how well the green roof will survive over time. It should be fine for all the seasons except maybe for the summer months as i fear it will dry out without watering but then again Irish summers can be quite wet also. There is plenty of ventilation in the bird house and i used a minimal amount of glue to help hold the joints together. To gain access for cleaning the pins i used to hold the floor in place will have to be removed. This will not be a big job to do when the time arrives. The tools used in the project were a hammer, hand saw, tenon saw, utility knife, a hatchet and staple gun. I hope you enjoy it and hopefully it may inspire you to make one yourself!
Always be careful using tools and machinery!!

Absolutely Fantastic. Thank you so very much. Best I've ever seen. I've NEVER commented on TH-cam before despite thousands of viewing's over the years. That's how impressed I am. I love making bird/nesting boxes, however I don't believe I'm that talented or have the patience 😵. Thanks again & all the very best, MDM 🐻
Wow, thank you very much Martin.
Finally a real bird house without a bunch of store bought junk. Excellent!
Thank you very much Josephine.
I've just watched your video and have found it emotional, the amount of love you put into making the bird house was amazing, wonderful crafting skills.
Hi Pauline, thank you very much.
What I love about this DIY video (besides that end product looks amazing) is that you use basic materials and more importantly basic tools, all others are using almost professionally equipped workshops that is not affordable to many. Thanks for that and keep up the good work!
Thank you very much I will try!
I love the sound of fast forward hammering, it reminds me of Benny Hill.
Different taste 😆😆😆 🔨🔨🔨
Reminded me of a woodpecker
😂😂😂
this is the coolest thing even seen all year!!
Thank you for the rapid-fire sound effects and chill music. and no self-explanatory explanations. Perrrrfect.
Thank you very much Charlie.
I'll definitely copy this one for my love birds. Beautiful bird house. 🙂
I built a reasonably accurate replica of this cabin and the first family of birds that moved in installed an Anderson window. Clever little rascals!
I also heard they installed a sprinkler system for the dry periods lol and are planning on a attached fly-in garage LMBO
I’m in love with the grass roof idea. Nice bird house.
Thank you Tonya.
Thank you for showing how to build without having to use/own the tools so many of these how to videos use. I just need simple how-tos without having to use a table saw, nail gun, etc. I don't have a need for, nor do I have room for all those tools. Thank you! Your bird house is great.
Thank you very much Ruth.
It's so lovely so i'll start happily tomorrow morning🙋♀️
My son has a woodworking senior project to do and I think this will be perfect. Great job and thank you for the idea.
Oh wow that's great! Thank you very much and tell him best of luck with the project.
Its the most pretty and lovely birdhouse i have ever seen!
Thank you very much Alonzo.
I agree with you
I agree 😊
What a beautiful birdhouse. It's a real work of art and I deem it a privilege to have seen you build it. May you live long and prosper.

I think all that is missing is a very small model of a lawn mower on the roof.... lol. Excellent project, I might just have to build one of those. Thanks for taking the time to make very enjoyable videos.
Thank you very much Ian.
Absolutely brilliant
Thanks Ken!
Fantastic! Great video
I love the way he uses a 22 oz framing hammer for the micro logs :D
Sometimes you need some extra persuasion. :-)
Amazing idea. I'm gonna build one for sure. The grass roof was a nice touch, I think I'll use moss.
im gonna build one too. with few change's it will become bird feeder.
This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about "building plans birdhouses" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Daniliana Birdfly Babar - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my neighbour got excellent results with it.

Gorgeous wee thing love it 👍🏴👍👍👍
Thank you.
Thanks for making the vid. I am going to try this and I think i'm going to try using a hole saw to cut out the grooves. I also have this cool car back up camera with night vision that i'm gonna install inside so I can watch my tenants in the living room tv.
My Dad makes birdhouses also. I'm going to show him this and maybe we'll make it together. 💚
Woooow 💚💚 I would steal that if you were my neighbour 👌👌👌 😍😍 tooo good

Beautiful bird house!
Thank you Andrea!
Great job I love it .
This is absolutely the neatest most inspired beautiful birdhouse I have ever seen. I’ve seen great works of art for bird houses but this is using nature at its finest. Simple but perfect. All I want to know now is, will birds actually use it? Heh heh heh 👍👍👍
Thank you so much Robert!!!!
Eamon Walsh DIY would be great if you could get a picture or video of birds nesting in it...... thatd be the icing on the cake 🐦
Siberian forest house))👍
I'll have to try this. This is beautiful!

I would be proud to live in that bird house! Very handmade and nice.

Thank you for watching William.
Fantastic work....you are truly a craftsman....so inspiring
Thank you so much Rajendra 😊
A nice idea. Good stuff. How about “hinging” the bottom for cleaning out the old nest??
Thank you Philip, good idea.
Usually, come across negative comments. not this time! Not a single self-absorbed I can do it better comment. How refreshing..
yes but all bird boxes need a way in to clean out the old nests or the boxes become disease ridden but it does look amazing.
That was pretty darn amazing!
Thank you very much!
I just recently trimmed a pile of branches this week :D Now I got the urge to put them to better use
