Two lead low for loop test on a light switch, interesting I have never heard of that , I do the loop impedance test on lighting circuits at the board or a ceiling rose . Fantastic video as always 👍👍❤️

Why is it called 3 lead low ? What is low ? Are you still using the full voltage as you send the same level current down the neutral ? Please clarify. Great video. Thank you and another thumbs up as always.

"3 Wire Low" test uses 15mA of test current and balances across N - CPC to not trip an RCD. "2 Wire High" injects 20A of test current into the test circuit for a fast and accurate result, and will trip residual devices and small MCB's or sensitive MCCB

@@jonathanireland2913does 2 lead high inject 20 amps of fault current. That sounds very high. I thought it was 150ma of fault current?

@@heron9524 I read it somewhere many moons ago, however it may well have changed with more modern test equipment. It was sufficient current flowing to nuisance trip a B curve 6A mcb, according to the manual.

Why does my meggar trip on 3 low or 2 low on Eli testing?

Should work , from my experience Crabtree rcd/rcbo don’t like the lo or hi setting

Same here In New Zealand, no matter what RCD/RCBO we use. Once tested Earth Fault Loop Impedance on 3Lo, it trips always.

I love electrical testing and particularly fault finding.
It's the only thing interesting about electrical work...

You don't on 2 low and 3 low the results readings have a difference of a fifth of a ohm

I don’t see how you can test the loop impedance at a light switch as there’s no neutral, so you would be testing the strapers ie line and switch return. Hang on hang on .
To do this test at the switch isn’t a loop impedance tester it an R1+R2 ie a continuity test witch is then added to the Ze value, therefore it is a calculated value , the same would be for testing at the ceiling rose. So to get a measured Zs at the ceiling rose would be a three lead test.

Zs testing doesn't need a neutral. A light switch gives you access to line and CPC which form a continuous loop from the local transformer. The test will give you a true impedance reading as long as the circuit is live.

I liketo do drawings to explain to people, especially younger people as things seem to be fast tracked and nobody explains it to them they're only told what to put the meter on, I knew the hi low setti gs but never knew how they did worked, good explanation
