Are TXV’s universal and that a 3 ton can be installed on any 3 ton? Obviously the fittings are important but so long as it fits. There has been much debate within my company over this. We’ve had instances where we need a 2 1/2 ton outdoor TX me and we have a 2 1/2 ton That will work

A 3 ton valve will fit any 3 ton unit as long as both are rated from the same nominal capacities. If you're unsure about this, our Coolselector software can help confirm the capacity of the valve at specific conditions.

Shouldn't I flow nitrogen while brazing?

Hi mdimascio, This video was created for instructional purposes in one of our application centers to help technicians understand how to install a TR6 thermostatic expansion valve. It is necessary to flow nitrogen when brazing any copper or brass refrigeration fitting. The nitrogen prevents the formation of copper oxide which will move through the system and possibly block the orifice in the TXV and, if it is a heat pump, damage the reversing valve.

Why external equalizer line used in txv?

Hi Neel, generally, in larger systems that are over 1 ton capacity, external equalization is necessary. The same goes for any system utilizing a distributor. Currently, the TR6 thermostatic expansion valve is available in capacities of 1.5 ton to 6 ton depending on the refrigerant used, making external equalization the preferred route. Danfoss web has poor documentation nor tell customer its TxV is hard shutdown or not. nor I know the type in video using which kind of pipe size/thread.

you don't charge by super heat with txv so why check it unless there is a problem. The instructions usually say 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock for the bulb position on the pipe. I do not think you tightened the fittings to proper torque. And its never that clean or well lit not realistic must be a fake video. Probably a guy who has never changed one before only in the books.
