The great thing about the first chapter being named Kafka is that it is referencing a short story by Franz Kafka where a man wakes up as a horrifying insect creature; kind of implies that the normal "eyes" having lots of fingers inside are some kind of insectoid compound eyes. Gnarly as hell, love this so far.
the second the lil clay man woke up screaming i jocularly thought "the term 'kafkaesque' gets thrown around a lot these days, Howver," and then i saw the first chapter title. delgihtful!

I normally hate body horror but this one is... less uncomfortable I guess? Since I'm just looking at hands and not other things I can watch this longer than other ones. I'm honestly kinda excited for the full game to come out!
Yeah, they are more goofy than horror after 10 mins of looking at them, I just can't take the 3 thoughts serious with how funny they look.

I find myself intrigued and comforted by the hands and the gameplay, yet subtly creeped out by the story. As someone who has underwent a traumatic, toxic relationship and breakup, the story of dwelling and attempting to remember all of the pain is burdensome. To me, the nightmare seems like an endless loop of remembering that which was lost, which can never be again. The pursuit is the kafka-esque horror, without end and without satisfaction. Just an endless cycle of pain, pursuing pain in an attempt to gain more pain that is veiled in comfort.
The story speaks to me of someone who doesn’t want to accept what has already passed. The anguish to forget and the drive to remember generates endless turmoil. I hope that whoever goes through this cycle can find their peace. You have to learn to let things go, even if you’ll never forget them.
Normally I'm not a huge fan of surreal horror or card-based games, but this one really caught my attention. I hope the full game is out soon!
Got involved in what you just described and ended up suffering collateral damage. Unlike this person I've decided to leave it all behind and heal, but I think it's interesting how throughout this year I get "reminded" by life of what happened i.e like the story of this game (got hooked by the visuals, never expected being about someone being unable to let go). Honestly I hope the pain wasn't in vain and they manage to find peace.
I had a different interpretation of the game... it doesn't seem like the relationship was abusive, or toxic. I got the impression this was the story of someone whose love passed away, and they're unable to deal with that loss in a healthy way. The first tip off before it started becoming more obvious was when the subconscious said "She is stuck forever at that age" or something similar to that. Ive only ever heard that phrase used to describe someone who died very young. With the premise that shes passed away as the framework, the game then proceeds to make constant reference to the players descent into delusion. One that lead to some irrational attempt to reunite with the love that's leaving this world forever. He was never going to catch the ship though, because the ship was an allegory for someone passing away... the choice he was presented at in the end was to accept his own delusion and chase after something that doesn't exist, or to accept reality and be confronted with an even harder decision... sacraficing all the memories of her to numb the pain, or to choose to remember her for who she was, and all the joy she brought into the world, with the always lurking reminder that she was taken away far too early.
I can see the similarities in your interpretation though. This story is very sad, and in either scenario it speaks a great deal to how we handle grief and loss, either through death, or the loss of something we felt was real, as it faded away when the true colors were shown. In my experience with similar relationships you spoke about... the thing that always hurt the most to me was when I would look back at all the good that it started as, and question why it ever had to become what it did.

Missed opportunity on some of the enemies, if not all of them. Since all the normal, friendly stuff is represented by fluid animations, the evil stuff should be represented by hands that are edited in an exceedingly off-putting way. Like for Panic, it should be the heart, but its upside-down and it it freeze-frames, then speeds along into another freeze frame, then repeat such over and over to simulate one of the most common worries in panic attacks: Heart trouble.

The soundtrack feels nostalgic and comforting. The looping gifs of real-life hands and objects are great visuals for a horror game while being so simple.

i love everything about this game so far: the sort of abstract body horror, the unique visual style and gameplay, the aspects of your mind talking to you, the plot about exploring your memory through dreams, it’s all so cool. i can’t wait to see more of this game

i want to study this game like a bug, as a animation student it would have been really interesting to see the creator go the pixilation route with the portraits especially since theres a lot more you can do with image sequences than videos :O
but all that aside the story of this is fascinating! it really draws you in and makes you feel the confusion and fear of the protag, and even though were one step behind the protag in realizing things it feels like were not, if that makes sense? seriously a wonderful demo, excited for the game :D

honestly this is more impacting to me than i thought. reminds me of those time i keep trying to crawl back to my ex but can only wallow in memories. i've moved on but it feels like theres bullet that flied right beside my head and it feels uncanny.

this game is SO creative! it reminds me a lot of the other game "Who's Lila?". I love very multimedia games that think a little outside the box for their games. it tells a story in such an interesting way!
Interestingly, the translation at 46:29 is not complete. It actually says “I used ten thousand hands to search for her deep in the night.”
At 46:36, it says “the streets in the wee hours of the morning do not have people, there is only me who looks like a monster.”
And at 46:39 it says “the mothership mentioned by the voices is at that faraway place.” The faraway place that it is referring to was mentioned in the previous line, when it was talking about running away.
At 46:54, the “left behind” has the meaning of being abandoned, rather than just being forgotten.
At 46:56, the “monster” it refers to itself as is some kind of ten thousand hand being.
I know I’m late but as someone who can read Chinese it’s just that it’s difficult to translate figurative language, a direct translation like “using ten thousand hands to find her” would only sound out of place

The usage of live-action hands to form body parts and other such esoteric imagery reminds me a lot of Hylics 2. Very different games in many ways, but similarly quite trippy and weird.

Love the fact the game is still fun and unique to play but never drops the feeling of unsettling all the while, the whole package is wonderful and strange. Props to the dev for taking such an out there concept and making it work.

I'm wondering what memory was lost, what experience? A lost love, a lost enemy, just memory in general. I loved the weirdness of the fingers as facial features. It all made me really curious to see the complete game and story.
If there was one thing I would request of the developer is to have a separate log of the clues from the story you could access after you finish the game - whether one ending or more. It seems like something you might play in bursts and would be nice to enjoy the fragments of memories by themselves.

The battle mechanics are so interesting, if not a little easy. I really eagerly await the full version.
The voices in your head are very disco Elysium, and I like that about them. It’s got a really cohesive aesthetic. The music, too, really sucks you in and makes you forget how much time you’re spending on it. Really interesting.
The story lost me a little with the whole mothership thing but it certainly maintained that dreamlike quality

I kind of feel like there was a missed opportunity for the nose to look more like your hand when you do the "Got your nose!" thing with kids with the thumb in between the index and middle finger. It's almost the same but not quite.
Oh man that music, something about it and looking at the hand face actually makes me feel so disturbed, its great! Not many horror games are able to do that with a so little, its so chilling but also so catchy!

I wonder how strong of a double meaning the name has. After all, things can easily get out of hand with loss and grief.
44:42 soo a little explanation. The Staples basically attack 5 times in one turn dealing 1 dmg (that’s why the block only disappeared after each dmg was 3). Also that’s why as you were increasing the dmg there was less attacks on the descent enemies, since you could take the middle one with 2 attacks, the adjacent enemies were attacked only twice
