Thank you so much for this video! I was having so much trouble with coloring a line drawing in Procreate and you explained it so well. Thank you again!😁
Thank you for the videos for us beginners... I am new to Procreate and since I can't draw well, I know I can enjoy coloring pages and don't think I will be waiting for the holidays to get your holiday coloring bundle (yours are some of the best designs I've seen).
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to get into coloring as a way to improve my digital art, but I could never quite figure out how. This helps a lot!
A .jpg file won’t have a transparent background, so the way to color it will be different from a .png file with a transparent background. But that shouldn’t affect your color wheel in any way.
Great information! My 9yo daughter loves drawing and coloring and I’m looking for a good way for her to do that on an iPad with Apple Pencil. I just wonder if this would be a bit confusing with multiple layers and so forth. Is there a simpler way to use Procreate or can you recommend a different drawing app? Thanks so much!
Thank you! It is not a must to use layers in Procreate. You can do everything in a single layer much like you’d paint with traditional media. However, I feel that sort of defeats the purpose of painting digitally. Painting with layers gives a lot more flexibility and freedom to make changes down the line. All digital programs will have layers. Even video editing and photo editing programs have layers, so I think it’s good to grasp the concept early on.
The clipping mask doesn’t seem to work for me. Maybe because I’m using a coloring page with a white background? I’ve tried making my coloring page layer, “darker” and “multiply” but it just colors over the whole area on the clipping mask. Any tips? Thank you.
If the coloring page does not have the line art isolated on a transparent background, then the clipping mask method won’t work. You’ll need to use the selection tool to select the white background and then remove it first. Then you’ll be able to use the clipping mask. Do you know how to use the selection tool? If not, let me know and I can show you with a short video.
Most of the brushes in this video are from my Pencils pack. I also used one from my Amazing Watercolor pack. You can find my brushes here: www.colorwithkendi.com/procreate-brushes
My granddaughters love coloring these type of things in procreate..I never get to see my iPads when they are around because they have both of them! Lol
How do you make the colors so vibrant? Every time I try this the colors are super light unless I go over the color with several layers of it. The opacity is all the way up but it’s still very light.

Thanks for the very helpful video! My color wheel is now showing only black, gray, and white. How do I fix that? Thanks!
You’re welcome! I haven’t come across that issue before. Did you try restarting the Procreate app?
@ Thank you for the response. Yes.
I’ll try “rebooting” my iPad and see what happens.
Does it matter if you use a JPG instead of a PNG?

@@colorwithkendi okay. Thank you!

This is so helpful! I’m curious why this isn’t working if I import more than one photo?
It should work. Are you images in different layers?
@@colorwithkendi yes, the images are in different layers
Do they both have transparent or white backgrounds?
Thank you!!
You're welcome!

Are you painting in a separate layer? And is the layer opacity turned up all the way to max?
Idk what brush i need to use cuz the oppacity keeps changing when im coloring with my apple pencil
Does this happen with the monoline pen too? It’s a default brush in the Calligraphy section in Procreate.
Not working, also how do I stop it from erasing the lines on the coloring page?
What’s not working? You need to paint in a different layer to avoid erasing the lines.
Thank you so much, this video really helped me!
I'm so glad it was helpful! 😊
