Amatsu has been my favorite monster ever since I started with P3rd. I'm so glad that they did it so well. Hearing the roar and the themes even made me a bit emotional. The only criticism I have is the intruding monster in the quest. The Zinogre was nice, but it should have stayed as a one-time thing.

I saw someone complain that this hunt was bland, and I just couldn’t even fathom that opinion. Like saying you didn’t like the hunt is fine, but it feels just objectively wrong to call it bland. This hunt felt like it was constantly evolving and I couldn’t predict what sort of obstacle it had in store for me next. And I’m learning new mechanics of the attacks and installations on the maps with each hunt of Amatsu I do. There’s a lot to digest with this hunt.
>shoot ball >Shoot ball >Dive across >Dive across again >Spiny tornado >X2 >Shoot ball again >And again >Big whirlwind >Electro wheel >Electro wheel X2 >Super move >Repeat from step 1 It was very repetitive until usogi. I can understand calling it bland. However I also dislike this monster. I don't enjoy monsters that stay floating the entire hunt and is Almost impossible to hit and build combos. >Dodge >Dodge >Dodge >Hit 4 times >Dodge x4 >Hit a few more times >rinse and Repeat He is easy to dodge and very difficult to land hits. Not an enjoyable fight imo. Don't get me wrong. I like the story behind it and the call back to the prior games, I just don't find him enjoyable
Yes, a much better fight than Fatalis, many new attacks, no bullshit mechanic like dps check, just a hard fight They really cooked Amatsu well for Sunbreak
Yes, a much better fight than Fatalis². Despite having the biggest defect of Rise/Sunbreak, which is that every new attack is an AOE, in his case at least it makes sense AND he has a very fair hitbox. It's not like other monsters in Rise where every attack the monster's entire body becomes a full damage hitbox. Also, unlike Fatalis, Amatsu doesn't have ridiculous damage where even with 1000 defense, every attack will take more than half of your HP. And of course, he doesn't look like a tigrex in terms of speed. Another defect that Fatalis had in World: Extremely fast and absurd damage, no matter if you player maximized everything you could in terms of defense and attack. And of course, along with the new update came 8 more levels of armor defense improvements.
Also, another plus point of this fight. When Amatsu goes to unleash that huge hurricane, it's just like the original. Where you have a huge amount of time to risk and try to stop him. It's a huge flaw that exists in Valstrax in Rise, where unlike his original fight in GU, in Rise when he goes to "cool the engine", you only have 2-3 seconds to try to stop it. Something absurd to demand from the player. It's a good thing they didn't apply that logic to Amatsu's fight.
@@Suirioujin Actually it was quite easy. The fight is cool and all, no doubt. But it's easy. For example, Valstrax base Rise. It was a fight I need to pay attention because it was punitive. One wrong dash could led me to a cart. For amatsu.. I didn't even know what was happening. I was justing beating it up until it was dead. And I think it was kind lazy repeating the same Narwa//Turf War gimmick. It has happened in Base rise, why do we need the same thing to happen on two different fights from the same game with two wind monsters/wind serpent skeletons? About Fatalis, there is no DPS check. It has phases, as amatsu have. HP tresholds where he would do certain mechanics. One of amatsu big attacks works the same. But it doesn't have the same impact.... It took me and my friends 14 hours to defeat our first Fatalis. And we were getting ready to it since it was announced. We weren't dying for the fire or anything like that: his regular attacks and AI were just so damn good we couldn't handle it, so we needed to learn. After we learned how to counter Fatalis, how the mechanics of the map worked and how we should hunt it, we finally accomplished the task: Killing the legend. Amatsu was different. I was playing rise like, 3 F. Rajang Hunts per week, just to farm my quirio materials. Neither of my friends had touched the game in more than 1 month. Neither of them farmed the augments for armor or weapons. There was even one of them that the last time he played was september 2022. And none of it matter. We just went there and killed Amatsu first try, under 10 minutes. I dunno... I really liked the fight, but it was more like a breeze, not a storm. I think that if I farmed for hundred of hours preparing for what was coming (since amatsu is being teased for quite some time) all my effort should be equivalent to the monster fight. Scorned Magnamalo is a fun fight. Valstrax or even Risen Valstrax is a fun fight. Risen Kushala, fun fight... Amatsu? A cinematic and beautiful fight. Not a fun one. Edit: I play Bow. So I don't have a shield to withstand all attacks. Edit 2: All the touches with old carve sound, or the reference moves from old amatsu were very cool. When I heard the carving sound I almost choke because I couldn't believe. I just wish the fight would be this cool. Neither of my friends wants do play again and all I have to do is solo it until Malzeno and, eventually, next MH comes out.
@@MamboJangoZ I said hard because I saw many people saying it was a hard quest with a "quest failed" picture, I would say fair challenge Personaly I didn't struggle that much, I fought it 4 times, cart 1 time every time Yeah risen Valstrax was much harder, i failed the quest 4 times About the turf war, I liked it, because it's a reference to MH3rd, where Amatsu scared many Zinogres to run away from the mountain they usually live in I also struggled a lot with Fatalis, but now I tried to unsuccessfuly solo it, all I see is a shitty dps check : impossible to solo it if both horns aren't broken Even with armor over 1000 defense ans good fire and dragon res, ANY attack deals 90% of your health, and Hen enraged any fire attack and you're one-shot, and I really hate it
I love how they put in the stinkmink aura around Utsushi when he appears. He literally ran around, grabbed a stinkmink, then went on a long as journey to find the most powerful creature he could (why was an Apex Zinogre just loitering around?) and then booked it back towards the fight while being chased by it. Even better is that you can replay this sequence by having Utsushi as a follower, and he'll do this every single time. It's more damage than if you don't bring followers, and get CG Valstrax instead.
The whole closing the book on the past destruction felt epic, not sure how you missed that kagero had his home destroyed by it lol but that's how it sounded
The fact they were able to make us say : this might be my new number monster/elder/fight. After only 1 hunt... This really is one of the best monster remakes in monster hunter. And the fact they made so many references to the old games: The old horn when starting the quest The old item pick up sound. And of course they did not change his theme. And the weather sequence! There's so much love put into this! I absolutely love this monster and I gladly except it into my top 10. Anyone else? And then theres risen shagaru : Frenzy, frenzy everywhere
For me, Amatsu is my favorite boss fight overall. Sunbreak was my first time fighting him, and I was mesmerized the entire time. When I triple carted to the Looming Calamity, I wasn't mad, I was laughing oddly enough. Amatsu is my new favorite elder dragon, sorry Shara.
About the Heaven-sent skill from Amatsu's set, it works so well with gunlances because when it's active, it not only reloads shells; it reloads the stake as well. On top of that, the skill also replenishes sharpness by half the amount of when you use whetstones _whenever you switch scrolls_! Combine that with the jump distance you can get when switching scrolls, and ability to block damages without flinching, gunlance users are basically self-sustaining when dealing with large monsters. The fight itself... welp, it's fun when you can catch up with its AoE shenanigans and the fact that it tends to float around for some time; some weapons may have a hard time with it, particularly SnS (a friend of mine couldn't connect most of his attacks when soloing Amatsu). Then again, it's still doable. Overall, a neat hunt with good memorable moments for me.
A few months on, and while Heaven-Sent may not be absolutely meta, it is the comfiest of comfort skills. Having sharpness management and stamina management wrapped into a single skill, plus the fact that the respective armor pieces that bear the skill have plenty of 4-slots to work with, makes the Amatsu chest, arms and legs absolutely worth making - even worth making multiples of for different sets! I have two sets of the Heaven-Sent pieces - one each having a rank of Dragon Conversion or Furious for elemental damage, and one with Buildup Boost for status.
From a neutral point of view, Gaismagorm was a more impressive spectacle for me, Amatsu just picked me up more because all the memories played in the background. But Amatsu definitely didn't surpass Fatalis for me, I still found the fight against Fatalis more cinematically spectacular and the fight more impressive.
Not a wall like a Alatreon or Fatalis but that’s okay . Why is it okay ? It’s okay because Amatsu isn’t a black dragon . Sunbreak was a great title and Amatsu was a great final boss to send this game off.
@@jag9872 nah it is a bit disappointed but I try to enjoy Sunbreak for what it’s given us you know . I would really like to know the thought process behind the devs not giving us a black dragon with this title tho.
Why would we need another black dragon? Having a black dragon thematically makes no sense considering the whole Japanese ascetic Kamura and Rise as a whole got going on also the black dragons are supposed to be a special thing in MH and constantly throwing them as a finale will just get old and I know you lot would eventually just start complaining if it's always some kind of black dragon.
To be fair, Utsushi HAS been practicing his Zinogre roar impressions. Pair that with the stinkmink cloud you see him covered in during the cutscene and yeah, I guess he's just THAT good at calling his favorite good boy to his side in a pinch.
Easily the best fight in the entire game. I love its attacks which locks you in place (unless you wire evade) which look straight from Final Fantasy where a summon pulls you into its domain and beat you up from there. The lightning-infused attacks are fantastic. Music is amazing, not only Amatsu's theme but even the tiny detail when wyvern-ride theme didn't replace Zinogre's is highly appreciated. The only gripe I have with the whole thing is Amatsu didn't have its own arena. I thought we will transfer to the peak of Infernal Springs which is actually the Sacred Pinnacle. Anyways, everything else is beautiful, the subtle change in SFX, even Amatsu flying beside the camp is fascinating. Amatsu is like Raiden from MGS4: the rain transformed
I think they made it in the spring because it's meant to be the village of Kagero's backstory? I would also have preferred the Pinnacle, but if that's the case it kinda makes more sense for it to be here I guess. The Mountain Range is 99,99999% the same so it doesn't break the lore, wich is what matters the most to me lmao. Edit: also Amatsu being in the camp is another refence to P3rd
@@yurei4414 at least something similar to the Pinnacle, idk i just wanted Amatsu to have its own unique arena. But hey we still got the sunrise.. I remember that it's visible from the camp, but to hover that close? Damn that's epic
I love how insane the fight was and the I hope we can mount more Apexes. It's funny that it needs 2 people to mount the thing and maybe maybe maybe they can let us do that on other hunts too?
Cool detail with utsushi summoning the zinogre, he has the same particles that the player has when they use the minx that attracts monsters to you when used, so that's how he does it
If you do not know what make sense.. If you do go to a free investigation map.. You can actually lure/bait a monster to come after you to fight with another monster. You can use dung bombs to make them move from different places to different places.
I loved Amatsu before, and now, bam, they just consolidated the old fight into the first phase and added to it, then gave us a kickass phase 2 too. And it's also incredibly fair, though I triple carted first try, I felt it was my own fault and I could've made better decisions. Spectacular, frenetic but also evenly tempoed, lots of hard, clear decisions to make. Also, no proof! It just goes back to the music! The storm doesn't end until the fight does. Also I got an Apex Zinogre when I brought back Utsushi, which is also cool! Risen Shagaru is also an incredible fight, and the perfect end to Gore Magala as a fight. It's the definitive, final boss of the Magalas, and doesn't betray what you've learned in your journey across fighting them, but does build on it in ways you have to learn. I got chip damage for days through my Lance, and basically spent half my fight kegstanding first aid med+s, but it was good old Shaggy Maggy, dialled up to 11. Seriously think Anomaly Raggy is gonna thrash me harder than the 140s ever would, too.
Dual blade main when TU5 come : YESSSSSSSSS!! Frenzied bloodlust is super good for db but.... Heavenly sent IS super good too. Not only that... DB also has an exclusive rampage decor which is insanely good. A fitting update for a cool weapon. (I am not DB main)
With how powerful our hunter got due to anomaly crafting and everything else… Amatsu fight is really cool, but i hope they drop the hazard level one with bigger health pool.
my favorite part is against most of the roster, the wirebug feels like an advantage that gives you an edge. against Amatsu, its not a weapon you use to trump it, its a requirement to even have a chance at surviving.
Amatsumagatsuchi Kagerou doesn't just randomly go for the amatsu They have beef The whole backstory of him and tea girl was the reason fans predicted amatsu
it is because utushi can mimic monster call and once had the whole village pull up to his place because they thought it was a jinouga but naw it was just utushi
Amatsu design and moveset are okay. it's just too easy, first try, no cart, without even trying, (I messed around with the arena mechanics) it's anticlimatic! Fighting Amatsu is like fighting flying Royal Ludroth spitting storm. On the other hand Risen Shagaru is just amazing. I believe upcoming Malzeno will be completely cure my dissapointment to Amatsu.

The only thing I think they could’ve done to make this thing god tier is to make it larger in rise it looks to small Also why am I always Given mantle of amastu even in GU I always get a mantle
The fight is definitely a glow up from past iterations, but dang I wish they chilled with the over reliance on wire bugs in order to escape certain attacks and the punishment of having none
man.. i feel about the amatsu fight the same way i feel about rise... confused like i really do like it but at the same time i have muched preferred the older MH games wish if amatsu was harder like people really hyped me up saying its just a bit under the power of a black dragon and when i hear "black dragon" i know it will be a super intense and fun fight amatsu was just a fun fight without intensity and IMO intensity enhances the fight by a lot like MHR and amatsu imo could have been so much better if they had done some things in a different way they are so close to being amazing but they are just good and remember people have different tastes some people HATE rise others LOVE rise im in the middle ground and imo all monster hunter games are good some better than others
Right now I'm stuck fighting him.. I've always found Amatsu annoying. During GU he made me drop the game cus he's such a bore to fight. Too much health, always running away and when it actually does stay in place, half the time it's too high above to land combos on it. Shame because I love it's design.
Meh, I think the old amatsu is better. He was a little boring before, but now he is both boring and kinda annoying. They buffed his attack frequency and mobility, as such a large dragon who's also constantly airborne, fighting him with Lance or hammer is painful because every movement he made repositions him over great distances. You are either chasing him down to get a few hits in or running away from his aoe attacks. (Or if you use a ranged weapon then he's just boring) His new ultimate attacks were pretty interesting when you first saw them, but once you know how to deal with them they start to get annoying really fast. You know that they don't pose any meaningful threat but you still gotta relentlessly wiredash and watch them play out.
The most cinematic is still fatalis. Amatsu is awesome in sunbreak but he deserved better, wirebug and rise hunter agility and ability made him so easy
Seriously, this is Capcom weird decision (again) to put Amatsu on lower MR rank, they make Amatsu looks like a final boss but clearly she is not, the old player need to lower their gear to feel a true challenge or experience from Amatsu while everyone already maxed out their gears. In my first attempt with tu4 gear I make her like a joke, she was doing flashy attacks yet do less damage, I let her attack me (of course I need to heal frequently) when I messed around with the tools and still no cart.
@@Amatsu_storm_approach unless your bad enough in the game to be hit with the ssj3 goku level kind of wind up of his ultimate attack, same thing happened with primordial malzeno, I quit the game after the amatsu update, made some new armor with little augment then came back in the p.malzeno update, beat both the normal version and the hazard one at first try with no carts.

The only criticism I have is the intruding monster in the quest. The Zinogre was nice, but it should have stayed as a one-time thing.
... what do you mean a "one-time thing?" It only happens once.
@@CaptainCFalcon The intruding monster, duh.
@@ArcticWolfGod fun fact if you get utsushi as a follower he will grab zinogre AGAIN
As a Player that has been playing monster hunter within 4 years I have to say that I'm very happy they added amatsu after a long time even though I've never had access to the older games I studied and watch many videos about this majestic beast and how it keeps at it's part within life but what I'm trying to say is that I LOVE IT
I saw someone complain that this hunt was bland, and I just couldn’t even fathom that opinion. There’s a lot to digest with this hunt.
>shoot ball
>Shoot ball
>Dive across
>Dive across again
>Spiny tornado
>X2
>Shoot ball again
>And again
>Big whirlwind
>Electro wheel
>Electro wheel X2
>Super move
>Repeat from step 1
It was very repetitive until usogi. I can understand calling it bland. However I also dislike this monster. I don't enjoy monsters that stay floating the entire hunt and is Almost impossible to hit and build combos.
>Dodge
>Dodge
>Dodge
>Hit 4 times
>Dodge x4
>Hit a few more times
>rinse and Repeat
He is easy to dodge and very difficult to land hits. Not an enjoyable fight imo.
Don't get me wrong. I like the story behind it and the call back to the prior games, I just don't find him enjoyable
@@ninjalawzowhat weapon you use? Obviously not bad fight unlike World kushala
@@ninjalawzo you can literally say this about any monster, your just simplifying their moveset.
It's an ok hunt, but I pretty much struggled more to land hits rather than looking out for it's attacks.
@@ninjalawzo Fatalis can be dumbed down to just fire breath and stronger fire breath too, so what's your point
Do you guys like the Amatsu changes in Sunbreak? I think he might have become my new favorite Elder Dragon!
Yes, a much better fight than Fatalis, many new attacks, no bullshit mechanic like dps check, just a hard fight
They really cooked Amatsu well for Sunbreak
@@MamboJangoZ I said hard because I saw many people saying it was a hard quest with a "quest failed" picture, I would say fair challenge
Personaly I didn't struggle that much, I fought it 4 times, cart 1 time every time
Yeah risen Valstrax was much harder, i failed the quest 4 times
About the turf war, I liked it, because it's a reference to MH3rd, where Amatsu scared many Zinogres to run away from the mountain they usually live in
I also struggled a lot with Fatalis, but now I tried to unsuccessfuly solo it, all I see is a shitty dps check : impossible to solo it if both horns aren't broken
Even with armor over 1000 defense ans good fire and dragon res, ANY attack deals 90% of your health, and Hen enraged any fire attack and you're one-shot, and I really hate it
I love how they put in the stinkmink aura around Utsushi when he appears.
I didn't miss it, I just wasn't too compelled by it but it's a good effort in making characters feel more relevant and fleshed out.
The fact they were able to make us say : this might be my new number monster/elder/fight.
After only 1 hunt...
This really is one of the best monster remakes in monster hunter. And the fact they made so many references to the old games:
The old horn when starting the quest
The old item pick up sound.
And of course they did not change his theme.
And the weather sequence!
There's so much love put into this!
I absolutely love this monster and I gladly except it into my top 10.
Anyone else?
And then theres risen shagaru :
Frenzy, frenzy everywhere
For me, Amatsu is my favorite boss fight overall. Sunbreak was my first time fighting him, and I was mesmerized the entire time. When I triple carted to the Looming Calamity, I wasn't mad, I was laughing oddly enough.
Amatsu is my new favorite elder dragon, sorry Shara.
4:35 To answer your question of how Utsushi summoned the Apex Zinogre, it's clear that he used a Stinkmink's odor to lure the Zinogre to Amatsu.
Cooking a stake even has the old song playing, I love that
Fun fact; repeating the Amatsu hunt with Utsushi makes an Apex Zinogre join the hunt, while everyone else get CGV
You can't compare a black dragon to my cabbage boy lol
Fatalis is literally judgement. Amatsu? He just there

Not a wall like a Alatreon or Fatalis but that’s okay . Why is it okay ? It’s okay because Amatsu isn’t a black dragon . Sunbreak was a great title and Amatsu was a great final boss to send this game off.
Sucks to know that RiseBreak probably isn’t getting a Black Dragon though.
@@jag9872 nah it is a bit disappointed but I try to enjoy Sunbreak for what it’s given us you know . I would really like to know the thought process behind the devs not giving us a black dragon with this title tho.
@@Lormingo16 because the first class monsters are special, it would be boring if they were just regular occurrences like the flagships
Makes senses. Putting black dragon everywhere would make them doesnt feel special anymore
To be fair, Utsushi HAS been practicing his Zinogre roar impressions. Pair that with the stinkmink cloud you see him covered in during the cutscene and yeah, I guess he's just THAT good at calling his favorite good boy to his side in a pinch.
Utsushi does what every hunter does: Use a Stinkmink (you can see the stench evaporating)
Man things just keep changing how am I suppose to keep up 👴, I miss the good old days 😿...
Utsushi probably used a Stinkmink and pissed off an Apex Zinogre enough to drag him all the way there.
Amatsu is one of my favorite elders and after Sunbreak one of my favorite hunts lol
Fun fact: if you bring utsushi as the only follower, the apex zinogre will 100% return instead of being replaced By crimson glow valstrax
Amatsu wiped the floor with me so many times
Amatsu is such a badass.
I love how insane the fight was and the I hope we can mount more Apexes. It's funny that it needs 2 people to mount the thing and maybe maybe maybe they can let us do that on other hunts too?
whats funny is that Utsushi used a stinkmink, you could see the stinkmink particles on him before it dissappaites
I like how the valstrax references amatsu's first worldwide appearance in mhgen
I'm surprised I haven't seen people notice that Utushi draws in the Zinogre covered in Stinkmink smell with the white smoke around him
Utsushi summoning Apex Zinogre makes perfect sense. He had Stinkmink dust around him.
this is why i was so hopping Yama Tsukami would get into rise. he's such an old monster and his fight would been PERFECT for Rise's Ariel ability
ITS IN RISE WOOOO
This fight showed the real potential of the wirebug
you can see zinogre appear again if you bring along Utsushi in the hunt
That surprise with utsushi was really next level

Yo Beerus you got a new friend my boy
Utsuhi lured the Zinogre as you see he had some smoke so I guess he used a Stinkmink to lure it
my favorite part is against most of the roster, the wirebug feels like an advantage that gives you an edge. against Amatsu, its not a weapon you use to trump it, its a requirement to even have a chance at surviving.

"does more damage when you use a silkbind attack" the one silkbind hammer build able to knock out amatsu in one hit :
it is because utushi can mimic monster call and once had the whole village pull up to his place because they thought it was a jinouga but naw it was just utushi

Yes dual blades with the aerial switch skill!
Right now I'm stuck fighting him.. I've always found Amatsu annoying. During GU he made me drop the game cus he's such a bore to fight. Too much health, always running away and when it actually does stay in place, half the time it's too high above to land combos on it.
Shame because I love it's design.
There should be great Wyverns
Gaismagorm was really anti-climactic for the final story fight of sunbreak
I did it with Lance and skyward thrust, is was super fine!
The most cinematic is still fatalis. Amatsu is awesome in sunbreak but he deserved better, wirebug and rise hunter agility and ability made him so easy
what dragon is 0:24 ?
Pretty sure that was a Xeno Jiiva reference
The armor is severely lacking in design compared to the monster it derives from

Seriously, this is Capcom weird decision (again) to put Amatsu on lower MR rank, they make Amatsu looks like a final boss but clearly she is not, the old player need to lower their gear to feel a true challenge or experience from Amatsu while everyone already maxed out their gears. In my first attempt with tu4 gear I make her like a joke, she was doing flashy attacks yet do less damage, I let her attack me (of course I need to heal frequently) when I messed around with the tools and still no cart.
