I used to rewind to the high note part of this song all the time as a kid. This many years later and I still get goosebumps. Such a talent that guy has.
Ever since I was a kid, I've always loved when he went from being so afraid of singing in front of people, to taking the performance in his own hands and rocking it! Whoopi's character made him feel comfortable because she believed in him. Then, when homeboy cut loose, she whirled around and was like, "WHO IS THAT?!" I loved it! It always gives me chills during that part because it shows that when someone believes in you, they unlock that hidden talent you have inside and they shine. Very motivational.

we had a kid like that in our middle school...i remember HATING it there - fresh off the boat, almost no English, everything seemed so ugly and hostile, and the inner city school i was in didnt help - brutal, combative classmates, horrible, tired of life teachers. Till we had this holiday gathering or talent show i dont remember - this short, thin little black kid, I swear, came out and hit all of the high notes in some song....everyone cheered and i was floored. Art and talent can make a rainbow of awesomeness shine out in the darkest of hells. Then a year later I saw this movie and this scene literally made me cry. Beautiful. I Love bot of those movies. Go Whoopi, and go all those talented actors!
When he hit that high note she turned around so quick, " you ain't tell nobody you had that, dang be on stand by, for my high school reunion I can say u my son and show you off, they won't be laughing then."
This is how you start your day. You’ll start with a smile and find yourself singing like I always do. Love this part in movie.
