    Great video as always. Problem is, if there is no signal, not even one bar, they will not work and there are vast areas where there are no towers, which render them useless. Inreach is the best way to go IMHO. If you need to stay connected way off grid, get a Starlink, which are excellent.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. Starlink is envy worthy. Lol. I saw someone at camp with one. Really cool

    • @chrispisano3298
      @chrispisano3298 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Starlink is awesome, but it also has a monthly subscription, so if you're not going off grid regularly it's orettye expensive. A satellite communicator like the inReach should always be carried when going off grid. The way I view it is the weBoost and a satellite communicator solve different problems and both should be carried.

    Good to see that you even get signal improvement since both antennas are so close together. Was talking to a weBoost rep and they were telling me that my signal will more than likely be broken up if the internal antenna and external antenna are closer than eight feet apart. Thinking of using a Quick Fist Clamp to secure the antenna in the down position, I'm a little sceptical on how durable the antenna clamp will be long term.
    You might not always get enough cell signal to make a call but get enough signal for GPS to work. That being said I'm hoping that this cell booster will give me enough signal to make a call if need be out in the middle of nowhere.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I almost used a quick fist myself but so far the little clip it came with is holding well and I've gone through some areas where it was slapped by branches.
      As far as signal, I haven't had issues with them being close. But if I remember correctly, the instructions it came with said it shouldn't be MORE than 8 feet apart. You might wanna double check that.

    I just got the one where you have to use the cradle since they are $152 at Walmart. I have no idea how it’s going to work out, but I wish you could unscrew the antenna when you don’t want to use it. I have it mounted on a hood lip mount that was left over from a ham antenna before I drilled my roof - and I don’t want to be driving around with it there on a daily basis. Because the feed line goes through the firewall, it’s just totally impractical to use. But we’ll see. I have a pickup, so I need to see how to mount it in back of the cab, I don’t have racks or anything it’s a 2WD work truck, but we do take it camping etc. in places with limited cell service.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope! In fact anyone that's near the weboost interior antenna will get a boost in signal. There's no pairing or anything. All it's really doing is taking existing signal into its antenna and then amplifying it. Then when you look at your phone you'll see you just got more bars (btw if you don't, what you'll want to do is put your phone on airplane mode for about 15 seconds then when you go back on, it'll refresh your cell signal and you should see an increase at that point)

    Nice comprehensive video! Yeah that plastic holder is a weird design. If you mount it on the same surface as the folding metal mount, the plastic holder will be too high. In addition, because of how tight it is to snap the antenna mast into, I had three antennas crack, so be careful. Anyway, weboost sent me an OTR external antenna instead.
