I'm addition to the writing, comedy, relationships, and characters, I really love the puppetry on this show! It looks amazing!! It's one of the best things about this series! In my opinion, the puppetry here rivals so much of what the Muppets have done in the past!
My thoughts exactly! I really liked the whole series, but halfway through, the show gets nicer and, at least in my opinion, a lot better. But by the time it changed, it was too late and enough people were turned off by it to give it another try.
I binge watched this with my brother on Disney + and absolutely agree with what you said with the review. The first few episodes are a little hard to watch because of how mean everyone was acting in it. But as the show goes along it does get much more pleasant and begins to feel more Muppets like. And I honestly think that was apart of the joke of the show. Plus they use Uncle Deadly again, who fun fact: Was an old forgotten Muppets character. And he was my favorite part of the show. He was hilarious. I hope this show can get a following and encourage Disney to revive it.
Not really. House of Mouse was basically just a showcase for recycled Mickey Mouse Works shorts along with a few classic Disney shorts. This show was more reminiscent of NBC's single camera sitcoms like The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Rec.
This show.cracked me up and I was devastated when they cancelled it out of nowhere. My favorite joke? @@Goldstar_ I have been thinking the same ever since the original Muppet Show. But since we was the only sport enthusiast of the bunch I just imagine she pursued that instead. Yet we could have had her still visiting from behind the scenes
I loved this show. I felt like as long as you put your mindset at "I want to see what the Muppets are like behind the show, when they aren't just being clowns for our amusement." I feel like if people could get their head's wrapped around that they could love this show as much as I did. For example people saying Kermit is always the upbeat, positive character who does his best to find the bright side of ever situation even if it drives him nuts. That Kermit is a character created for the Muppet show. The Kermit we get on this show is his real self. He isn't just a character anymore you have to view him like a real person who's job it is to produce this talk show. Its a pretty meta concept when you think about it since the Muppets aren't real people. I mean its a character inside a character wrapped around a doll with a hand up its butt. 🤣
Lol, I wasn’t expecting Critics reason for not watching the show to be so damn similar to mine. The problem was that ABC aired the episodes on weekdays as opposed to the weekends, when kids had to sleep early and worry about school. Sure the target audience could’ve also been adults but then again how many adults would’ve remembered or even known about this show when they’re busy with more important stuff? After all how much marketing did this show get in order for people to know? I kinda remember only a few trailers for it after all.
I had been avoiding this show on Disney+, because I was aware of the collective disappointment I had been hearing for the first part of the show. This was Kermit, who gave us "The Rainbow Connection", it was almost too heartbreaking for my mental sanity to think he's given up on hope and silver linings.... I love that you gave it a chance and a fair review. I can live with a growth arc, back to a level of healed cynicsm, to face the new year. Thank you!
This was a really great show (not just for muppet show - but show of any show) - from beginning to end. The humor was some of the best I've seen. I didn't notice anything any different really. Really surprised to hear some people didn't like it - so glad I never read anything anyone had to say online and just enjoyed it.
I’ve seen this show before. As a huge fan of the Muppets, I honestly liked it, I thought it was funny and in some cases made me smile. Probably my favorite moment in the show (and you didn’t mention it in this Disneycember) is one of the endings for one of the episodes because Kermit sings The RainBow Connection by himself just like in the original Muppet Movie.
As someone who had to stop the video because of a laughter-induced coughing fit I can attest that Fozzie's "bear" joke is, in fact, the funniest thing ever.
I loved this show and tried to watch it whenever my DVR could record it. Now that its on Disney + I'm hoping to watch all the episodes ive missed. Also Kermit confirming he has a thing for Pig woman = GENIUS!
I don't care what anyone says, in my mind Kermit and Piggy will always be together. People complain about how their relationship is abusive, but you have to remember that these are MUPPETS! In just about any episode, you'll find these characters being pressed into walls, being blown up and having chickens thrown at them!
I loved this show and I was devastated when I heard the second season was canceled cause like you Doug I thought it was pretty good. I’m a hardcore muppet fan and thought it was great.
I wish the show had gotten another season; I would have loved to see where it went from there. Some of the bits are jaw-dropping, and all the more hilarious for it- Gonzo and the egg box that says "potential offspring" and what follows is possibly my favorite. It's so wrong that it just keeps getting funnier.
I do remember a hiatus between episodes happening. Maybe there was some heavy rewrites in that time to address the criticism and be self aware about it.
I thought this show was amazing. We all love the heart felt Muppets and Disney gave us that with their first movie. This was a step in a different direction. I loved it. It reminds me a lot of Jim’s initial plan to have the Muppets for adults. I thought this show was very funny. The Muppets in this were definitely a lot less warm hearted but it didn’t take it too far and there are moments that remind us these are indeed the same heart felt Muppets we know. I completely believe this is what it would be like behind the scenes of the Muppets putting on shows. This was a really good show and I hate that it didn’t get a second chance!!
Muppets Now isn't perfect (neither was this), but it's not unfixable. Perhaps in the next crop of episodes the writers could fix some of the problems with the show.
There were some really heartfelt moments in this show. Kermit to gonzo:”you are not gonzo the great....you are gonzo the greatest!” Also the Swedish chef singing rappers delight
I’m probably one of the few that liked it was more mean spirited then the other muppet shows. That really made it different from the other muppet shows.

Thank you for this. I gave up on the show after the 3 episodes. Now I think I'll give it another shot.
On the 28th, my birthday, the Critic gave to me: a show to sit down with and laugh.
I LOVE this show. I wish they'd release it on DVD.
Next time there's an earthquake in California, it's Jim Henson spinning in his grave.
I was actually looking forward to a second season. I really wish they would have.
I really wish this show went somewhere. Great concept and the few episodes I caught when it was airing were pretty entertaining.
I thought this show was hilarious.
This show is really funny, a good watch...
I loved this show, a pity it only had one season.
Absolutely fecking amazing mate
As someone who had to stop the video because of a laughter-induced coughing fit I can attest that Fozzie's "bear" joke is, in fact, the funniest thing ever.
I loved this show and tried to watch it whenever my DVR could record it. Now that its on Disney + I'm hoping to watch all the episodes ive missed. Also Kermit confirming he has a thing for Pig woman = GENIUS!
It should have gotten a lot more seasons.
I LOVED this version of the Muppets. It was hilarious especially the first half before they took the edges off.
One thing this show had going for it is it turned Uncle Deadly from an obscure Muppet to an absolutley hilarious one and my favorite
Sam the Eagle acting as the show's head-censor? Yeah, I can see that.
I grew up on reruns of The Muppet Show/Muppets Tonight, so I might look for this on dvd.
I do remember a hiatus between episodes happening. Maybe there was some heavy rewrites in that time to address the criticism and be self aware about it.
More than that. They fired the showrunner by the first half of the season.
This was way better then Muppets Now and I'm mad it got canned after 12 episodes and that it dis not get a chance to grow.
Muppets Now was cute but honestly kind of stupid. I hope Disney + will at least try to continue this Muppets series instead.
Muppets Now isn't perfect (neither was this), but it's not unfixable. Perhaps in the next crop of episodes the writers could fix some of the problems with the show.
I really liked this show, and I was so bummed it got cancelled.
There were some really heartfelt moments in this show.
Kermit to gonzo:”you are not gonzo the great....you are gonzo the greatest!”
Also the Swedish chef singing rappers delight
I still can't believe Miss Piggy said "Sex it to me, Sake boys!" on this show. The late Jim Henson and Frank Oz would be pissed when they hear that.
Have to agree - there never would have been the mean-spirited first half of a season with Jim still around.
Oh yeah, let's forget about all those Wilkins commercials Jim made
people complained that this show had adult humor. almost like they've never seen a muppet show
I’m probably one of the few that liked it was more mean spirited then the other muppet shows. That really made it different from the other muppet shows.
the humor was hilarious and i enjoyed it thoroughly! i hope we get more from the writers in another swing at the muppets? i did really like this
They pretty much brought back the original personalities. Which were not for kids
